If I am to calculate the total years since he stated wearing uniform till retirement, it's more than 41 years. He entered Nigeria Military school, Zaria (NMS) 1973- 1978. From 1978 - 1981(NDA) He's the longest ever serving military personnel in the history of NA

You will calculate from the year he graduated and was commissioned as a second Lieut

It is by grace to attain the rank of Four Stars General. Am not sure if Nigeria has up to 30 since Independence.

He spent 41 years in service.. ..what a grace

To be the longest servicing Chief of Defence Staff is by grace.

To be the longest serving General without being Head of State is by Grace

To be the longest serving officer in Nigeria Military History is by grace.

To be due for retirement but service extended by four years by the President....simply means GRACE

Welcome home General

41years when the statutory retirement age stipulated by law is 35years and you call it grace, God's handwork? What has God got to do with lawlessness? A man that fears God will tender his resignation once he knows he has attained the time stipulated by law. So if the has been kept in service until he dies, he would not have retired? What then is the difference between him and the sit-tight African President who make their position their inheritance?

I disagree with u. He retired as a general. U need to search and read ur history texts very well sir. But dis time around, read slowly so that u wont miss anything. He was even more of a genetal dan d rest. It was why he called himself warlord.

No one disputes he wasn’t a warlord - but the Nigerian Army tank he attained at the time of his retirement was Lt. Gen, kindly base your argument on facts and not emotions, enuff said

You are quoting beegle or beegeagle to counter my response? you are indeed a dummy - I will send you a link from New York Times, which has more reputation than some blogger that clearly states Obasanjo was a Lieutenant General at the time he left service on Oct 1, 1979

BTW - anyone who attains the rank of a Major General and above is often called General and this is where the confusion comes from - Just like people erroneously call Buhari - Gen. Buhari, no he retired as a Major General. Let me paste the link below and please read through. This is from the New York Times of Oct 2, 1979

And Aziza and others you mentioned I dont know them because I left Nigeria already before those ones came to national limelight - BUT I can tell you categorically that DOMKAT YALI BALI was never a 4- star General in the Nigerian Army. I knew when he was a Major General. MAYBE he was later promoted as Lieutenant General, but never a full General - with an EAGLE, 2 STARS and a CROSS on his shoulder - NEVER. In the IBB Junta, only IBB and Abacha had that rank in the Nigerian Army!!! grin

Yes, the internet is our friend- but I choose to make references to a reputable source than your ill informed blogger - please view the screen below well underlined and see that as of September 30, less than 24 hours before Onasanjo retired from the Army, he was a Lieutenant General, take care!

I didn’t insult you- rather you are relating the word dummy as an insult because of the way the word is used in Nigeria

A dummy when used as an adjective - and in this case I used it to describe you, means your contribution here is fake because your source is a blog which lacks credibility as compared to the New York Times because anyone can be a blogger, and bloggers are not held to the standards of reputable print media outlets like the NY times.

Below is the meaning of “DUMMY” as underlined when used as an adjective grin - Be guided!
