USD doesn't just appreciate or depreciate.
Unless you're talking of currency manipulators.
Country that freely float their currency - USD is good barometer - and is gold standard here.

Don't blame nominal GDP for South African domestic woes.

Blame 1) Poor HCI 2) Poor electricity from Eskom 3) Corrupt and inefficient debt ridden public sectors including SAA, Railways and name it.

Why is nairobi one of the most dynamic cities in world ?
Westlands of 2017 is totally different with westlands of 2020 - just a slate period of 3yrs.

If you check well, you'll notice westlands of 2020 is not the same as westlands of 2021.

Same applies to upperhill, westlands, old CBD (which already full packed of concrete towers and nice streets) .
