The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed , has said bandits cannot be proscribed in Nigeria because they don ’t go by any name.
Mohammed who made this known in an interview on AIT ’s Kaakaki programme monitored by The PUNCH on Wednesday said proscribing the bandits is not what really matters but how they are treated .
“ You proscribe known groups with names . You can’ t just proscribe an unknown group legally ,” he said .
“ Secondly , it ’s not whether they are proscribed or not, it is the way they are treated . Does the government actually treat them with kid gloves? The answer is no. ”
Mohammed also pointed out that there is a difference between the bandits and the Indigenous People of Biafra , a group that has been proscribed by the Federal Government.
He said , “ When a group is championing a course for the disintegration of Nigeria… A group like IPOB ( that ) does not even recognise Nigeria as a state , sets up its own army and think it is a sovereign state is different from bandits and criminals. Please, don ’ t compare apples and oranges .”

When asked if the bandits aren’ t also threatening the sovereignty of Nigeria by taking up arms against the citizens, the Minister said the cases are completely different.
He said , “ Security challenges are one thing. Challenging the sovereignty of Nigeria is a completely different thing. Don ’ t let us dwell on semantics .”
Speaking further , he said , “ Don ’ t armed robbers threaten the security of lives and property ? They do. Is there anywhere in the world that armed robbers have been proscribed?”

Does Lia or Garba or Femi ever listen to themselves .

Its like saying why armed robbers have not been proscribed or saying why terrorists have not been proscribed.

So police , DSS, army wont act against the bandits until they are proscribed bah?

Somebody should remind that pathological liar that armed robbers, though bloody terrible criminals don't go about slaughtering entire villages, communities from one state to another puting red flags in forests and peoples farms.

MASSOB and BZN wasn't proscribed but are treated as terrorists notwithstanding having no administrative collaboration with IPOB.

The Bandits have different names and locations. If you don't know their names proscribe by location.

A Noun includes areas of operations eg: Somalia Pirates

This man called Lai Mohammed is incredibly stupid. So bandits that have destroyed, maimed and killed people cant be designated as the terrorists that they are and proscribed accordingly?

What is the difference between bandits and BH terrorists
Nothing new. From Buhari to Lai Mohammed and anyone associated with this govt, they have all rationalized the atrocities of these cursed souls whether bandits, fulani/ BH terrorists.

You people gave them the name 'bandits'. They are either terrorists or criminal Fulani herdsmen. All are Islamic jihadists.
You better do the needful before it is too late.

Simple! The government is BH and BH is the government.
Buhari once said "a fight against BH is a fight against the north" while Lai Mohammed said "Proscription of Ansaru/BH is unconstitutional."

Re: Why Bandits Have Not Been Proscribed —lai Mohammed by gidgiddy: 11:51am On Feb 11, 2021
So proscription is for those who challenge the sovereignty of Nigeria? Not those who are violent? Thats why this clueless government does not know what terrorism is.

You dont proscribe a group for challenging the sovereignty of a country, anybody is allowed to challenge the sovereignty of a country, it is called self determination and is recognised in international law

You proscribe a group for using violence to achieve a political aim. So the real question is, in 2017 when the government proscribed IPOB, was IPOB using violence to try and achieve Biafra? No they were not, so why proscribe them?

Thats why America, the EU and Ohanaeze all rejected the proscription of IPOB, they knew it was unjust

The world terrorism index has long designated killer herdsmen as the 4th most dangerous terrorist group in the world. But the clueless Nigerian government is still waiting for them to have a name. Such idiots we have in power
