Wike is a dictator. Their lamentations will only infuriate him more. He will punish them for asking for their entitlements because of his ego. That's the same man that was condemning APC even though PDP is a cesspool of insensitivity and corruption. I am surprised that Rivers people have not protested how Wike lavished their common oil wealth on Sokoto state. It's like they like being fulani slaves in that Rivers of blood. |

Harrynight:That shows you the story is incomplete. They were removed from the government payroll. Do we know why ![]() Is this allergy for complete information, the reason why we voted for an incompetent illiterate who quickly changed the prosperity handed over to him into recession, joblessness, inflation, insecurity, corruption etc? |

The state government does not get the revenue from the school fees of these schools so why should they be the one to pay the salaries? The tertiary institutions that established the schools should be the one to pay the salaries. And how does someone owe you 5 years salary? Who goes to work for straight 5 years without getting paid? |

| Re: Rivers Teachers Lament Five Years Unpaid Salaries by Neddyogu(m): 8:28am On Feb 12, 2021 |
The question is do the affected schools fall under the purview of the state govt or should they be paid from the IGR of the tertiary institutions they're attached to? Where does the school fees paid by the students and pupils go? Is the state education board in charge of those schools? There need to be clear answers to these questions. I need to know so I can direct the thunder to the appropriate quarters with pinpoint accuracy. |
| Re: Rivers Teachers Lament Five Years Unpaid Salaries by idahme(m): 8:38am On Feb 12, 2021 |
Vardanes2:Your last statement is what is actually playing out.... The only issue I have with the directive Is that these teachers were duly employed by the tertiary institution as employees and posted to the secondary and primary schools as teachers. The policy would have worked perfectly well if new teachers were employed with new terms of contract bearing the secondary and primary school as tbeir employers and the old teachers given an option to be posted to other areas of the institution... They should seek redress in court, they have a valid reason to do so. |

| Re: Rivers Teachers Lament Five Years Unpaid Salaries by idahme(m): 8:53am On Feb 12, 2021 |
Tobinrobin:I guess they are in court for redress, the government changed its policy as regards payement of salaries of schools owned by its tertiary institutions from 2015. The institution were mandated to pay the salaries of schools they set since they are the once who take 100percent of fees payed by the students, ever since the instructions have been responsible for the payment of salaries. These teachers are the ones that objected to that arrangement which they all have legal basis to, a case is in court on that regard. As at 2015 when the policy came into effect the best the government should have done is to absolve the teachers into the tertiary institution payroll and allow the institution to employ new staff with a new terms of contract expressly stating it's new policies. What I suspect is that the teachers have stayed away from teaching technically been on strike from 2015 to date because majority of teachers prior 2015 refused to accept the new terms of contract offered to the by the relevant institution. Their best bet now is through the courts, I really sympathised with them. |
