Wrong! Met many Africans in UK with just resident permit(Non British passport) that served in Gulf war, and are still serving as UK Soldiers in other theaters.

@ bolded. Says who? Check your facts. Depends, on your nationality and the country's policy. In some eu countries, as an adult (max 27 years)you can be enlisted with your resident permit.
