We Must Deal With Criminals According To Law, Not An Ethnic Conflict - Osinbajo by TheRareGem1(op): 9:55pm On Feb 14, 2021
The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has described the recent crisis in Shasha, Ibadan as unfortunate, and called on the law unforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

He disclosed this on Sunday while speaking with newsmen during a condolence visit to the Ilupeju residence of the now Late former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Lateef Jakande.

According to Osinbajo, "I have heard about the unfortunate mayhem and the tragic loss of lives at the Shasha market in the past few days. For decades, traders from the North have done business with their brothers from the Southwest  and  they have lived in peace  and even inter-married. Shasha is a place of unity."

The Vice President also said that criminals must be dealt with according to the law and not as a retaliation to ethnic hate, “So when a disagreement arises between individuals or a criminal act is committed by one against the other we must ensure that we see it for what it is,  a criminal act, which must be punished according to law, not an ethnic conflict."

The Vice President stated that each citizen has the right to live anywhere in peace and under the law. He added, "It is the duty of government through the police and other law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute any person who commits a crime against a citizen of this nation. It is the role of the citizen to assist the police to identify the criminals. We must never take the law into our own hands, if we do we will be promoting chaos, and a breakdown of law and order, and all of us especially the most vulnerable amongst us, will be at risk."
He then urged community leaders to work together to preserve brotherly coexistence, while lauding the placative efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde; "I commend the governor for his swift and decisive action  and all the law enforcement agencies for their prompt intervention."

VP you need to be objective when commenting onthis kind of matter. You need to be careful not to call your people criminals because na jejely we dey here before your oga at the top sent bandits and herdsmen to come and torment us.

If you don’t know what to say i will advise you to keep quiet. Don’t say you were not warned.

Aabo oro ni a un so fun omoluwabi ...,

People don’t trust the law enforcement agencies as they have form a pattern of supporting one ethnic group over the other anytime there is crisis regardless of the level of crime committed. As leaders you should listen carefully and without bias, address the concerns of the people. The reasons why all these problems persist is because politicians find comfort in telling lies all the times. Citizens have complained many times that the police and the military often support one ethnics group over the other in times of crisis where the supported committed a crime.

Before urging the citizens not to take laws into their own hands, we must first address the in-balance in the way the law enforcements and the military interfere and handle civil matters.

No justice no peace

The error in this politically right utterance is that the law is selective along tribal lines.

Fulanis can do and undo because they have the unwavering support of the Arny and police. How many tribes can boast such strange privilege? Any attempt at waiting for due process of the lawThe error in this politically right utterance is that the law is selective along tribal lines.
