rvp2018:Cry me a river rvp. Truth of the matter is we beat you in the airline industry without even trying. Cos here in Nigeria we consider the airline industry as moribound, it just started reviving in the last 2 years ...but we’ve already left you in the dust. ![]() |

rvp2018:My pleasure.. “Nigerians have spent $6.5bn on private jets, making it the largest market in Africa for luxury aircraft and one of the fastest growing in the world.” https://www.bbc.com/news/av/business-26385687 And keep in mind this was 2014.....and it has been increasing ever since. |

rvp2018:Ok let me try and dumb it down for you..... I never said the SAn economy was doing well......... All I pointed out us that you don't know anything about GDP and economics in general and thus should never attempt to calculate GDP.... Ever!!!! |

Safaricom approaches 15B dollars in valuation. Should now be comfortably in the top 5 in Africa in market cap. And yet they are only in the kenya market. Now only Nasper, First Rand, Anglo America plantinum and Absa Bank above them. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/corporate/companies/safaricom-share-nse-to-a-12-month-high-3291304 |

jln115:As a student who once did macroeconomics as a unit, I can confidently tell that rvp2018 has just demolished you in that debate ..Your point was that GDP is calculated in dollars and rvp's point was GDP is calculated in local currency, all of you were right. the local currency can be converted to dollars (which is the universal currency) If countries comparison is something to go by. Furthermore, the international monitory organization like IMF, WB etc will not use local currency to determine the exact normal gdp of a country therefore, they will also convert it to dollars. on your side which you were also right, gdp is also defined as dollar amount of all the final goods and services produced, it all depends with your point of view. For instance, Kenya gdp value is always in trillions, that's the figure which our government uses when determining our economy strength. On your second point, rvp told you that SA economy is shrinking which is true going by the statistical trend, on the other hand, Kenya economy has been in hyperactive state since 2014 and no point where kenya stagnated hence when he tells you kenya will one day catch up, He basically mean it going by statistical trend . |

rvp2018:We're overdue for rebasing. Last one was 2014 finding us 25% bigger. Since then there have been some structural changes. Agriculture particularly fishfarming and horticulture have grown TREMENDOUSLY as has IT and mobile based app biz. Imo, another minimum 20% of GDP judging from certain robust domestic stats eg,local tourism is being undercounted. |

Shma2020:uhm no dickhead.......... I said GDP Nominal is calculated on a base price of goods in dollars(which it is) ......and Real GDP is calculated by using a GDP deflator or in other words to put it very simply it's calculated in local currency(technically prices adjusted for local inflation) Your id0it friend said nominal gdp= Real GDP / exchange rate. Also I wasn't arguing about the SAn economy doing good or bad.....simply stated that RVP shouldnt try and calculate something he knows nothing about. |

jln115:Okay dingwad ![]() .. As far as you're trying to deflect from what you previously stated , you won't escape the hook of this student here. The GDP deflator is a measure of price inflation and It is calculated by dividing Nominal GDP by Real GDP and then multiplying by 100.. In other words It is calculated using nominal GDP and real GDP and not the vise versa as you're putting it. And mind you, nominal GDP is just the same as real gdp as rvp had stated only that in one, services produced are adjusted for inflation and the other one is not. Incase there are no changes after adjustment for inflation, then the values will still tally and won't reflect on the final output. So rvp was still right. ![]() |

Shma2020:I know how its calculated bro no need to post it simply to try and sound smart ![]() My argument was that GDP Nominal and GDP real are different and in fact I stated this several times!! .... Your boy said they were exactly the same but GDP Nominal is simply GDP real / exchange rate..... |

For gov to continue borrowing they have to rebase and hope the GDP is underestimated - otherwise we are hitting dangerous gdp to debt level. kikuyu1: |
