Before the colonialists came to Ghana, we already had a highly democratic government structure. And we have maintained this structure since 1880 when Great Britain wanted to take over all our lands for the queen.

They were actually first colonized indirectly by the Arabs before the British..... most of their city state lands are mostly for the Persia traders.

It seems they had no system of governance before the Brits came to colonize them.

In Ghana, our fore-fathers had a solid Chieftaincy system of governance long before the whites set foot on our land. Our Chiefs and families owned lands in Ghana long before we started practicing democracy so Government does not interfere in land acquisitions.

Right or wrong its communism when most land in a country is communal owned.Capitalism like Kenya mean land can be sold or bought on free market. Kenyatta and Moi bought white highlands from departing colonial owners. White had taken 2m hectares of mostly maasai communal land and when they left it was sold to whoever could buy.That is capitalism.Today if you have enough money you can buy as much land as you want in Kenya because it's just a commodity like any other..you don't need a committee or community leaders or the king to approve .You just need to see the title deed .Kenya started from communal land ownership but in 1960s the land was privatized, titled and registered to individual owners except a few.Those few the last 5yrs we issued 5m title deed.This help unlock a lot of value in land because that land can be sold or used as bank security for real cheap loans..but community owned land is just North Korea communism..nothing will thrive...you need to consult stool council to farm..its just Tanzania where the village council owns the land. ..although like Ghana you really cannot own but lease the land for 50 or 90yrs.Kenya title is freehold and leasehold for foreigner..freehold means you own it till eternity .kenya has thrived compared to many mineral rich countries by adopting capitalism starting from land ownership. Ghana should really overthrow their traditional feudal land ownership, privatize the farms and issues every Ghanaian almost with land and a title deed for it.Land is not something to be sentimental about..it should be a resource that can be traded

Nearly every Kenyan own land.Unlike Ghanaian who get buried in cemeteries..Kenyans get buried in their homes..in their land.In fact I doubt if there are Kenyans who are completely landless.Gov use to find such people and give them land.People who stay in urban slums all have rural farm land. They die the bodies are transported and buried at home.The cemeteries in Kenya are few, in big towns and mostly for muslim.

Yes because every Kenyan has freehold title to their land for eternity we can keep our love ones for eternity. Now Ghana..community own 80% of all land..both rural and urban..20% owned by gov..private land is zero.Dont wonder why despite all the gold all the last 100yrs you're poor..accra look like Juba or Niamey .Weak property rights. Who will invest in communal land..when stool council can wake up and allocate you land to someone else
