I knew u were going to say this but everybody knows Thiago Silva wasn't Brazil's best player in that copa America, I deliberately didn't address it because a fellow Brazilian who is a defender as well was awarded the best player in that Copa america while the "great" Thiago Silva was overlooked. Why should I bother addressing that in the first place ? If his teammate is singled out and honored as the best player in the competition so I should still believe it was the “great “ Thiago Silva that delivered the trophy ?

Well, airmark asked what I think makes a defender great and here's my response : " Well, for me I believe that aside from a CB being very good at reading the ball, very good in the air, being a good leader at the backline , making timely interceptions etc....such player must enjoy successful years with his team(either at the national level or club level by winning a major title ) and such success must be directly attributable to his footballing prowess. You see world class player, great player and all. To me e no get specific definition. A very great player might meet some criteria and fall short of another.
Example, some might regard iniesta as a great player cos of his trophies and contribution to his club and country. Another might bring his stats and say he is a good player and not a great player. All these things are just opinions.
But me I believe in using the eyes and events to judge.
To me Thiago is a great player. Might be world class(or arguably not) but he's certainly a great player

Ibrahimovic has not shone on the grandest of stages like the big games of UCL and World Cup, he goes missing when you expect him to shine. He is a great goalscorer but Henrique Larsson is greater than him
