Wen will ijaws allow isoko to become governor of Bayelsa?

Wen will ijaw allow urhobo to become governor of Bayelsa?

Igbo should start with at least deputy governor for the Annang in Akwa Ibom or Igala in Enugu and Anambra or the Ejagham in Ebonyi. At least let's start from there.

Do you know it was Azikiwe and Balewa Government that frustrated the Referendum agreed with the British over Kwara State that would have returned it back to the Western Region of Awolowo ?

Instead of Carrying out the Kwara referendum to return it to the Western Region Azikiwe and Balewa broke the Western Region in 2 after the Midwest Referendum forgot to do the Eastern and Northern Minority’s Referendum then to top it all up jailed Awolowo on trumped up treason Charges

Bring the necessary proof to back up ur claim

Lol!
You wish....only the Ijaws from Rivers state were even more than Igbo in the Igbo schools before independence!

Ijawland had schools before Igboland, Calabar too had schools before Igboland. We had advantage over the Igbos when it came to education.

Ijaw are at least 10 percent of Nigeria's population. Igbo are about 15 percent of Nigeria's population.

Let me give you a simple homework, go and find out who the pioneer students of government college Umuahia were and where they came from. When it started your folks barely had people who could be admitted.

10% of Nigerias population? You mean there are 20 million Ijaws? Dont make me laugh

Bring ur proof.

Azikiwe's drive towards forced and fake unity. His position at the Lancaster conference on the creation of an Ijaw region from the then western and eastern regions. Ironsi and Ojukwu's war against Boro. Ironsi's attempts at consolidating power at the centre. Ojukwu's rejection of the 12 state structure. What more evidence do you want?

Nigeria population = 200 million.

Ijaw population = 10% of nigeria population.

Which is = 20 million people.

The only large ijaw block is Bayelsa and their population is 1.6million. Pls list those places where the remaining 18.4 million ijaws live in nigeria

Actually the consensus amongst Edo people is staying alone. I for one don't buy the idea of a Niger delta republic. People in a country should at least share some historical and cultural relationship. That's why we will always feel at home with the Urhobos, the itsekiris, the Ikas. I would have added the Yoruba's but we don't trust them anymore.

I don't see us forming a country with the Efiks or Annangs. No relationship at all. The ijaws who are even close to us, we don't see any nation with them even though we have had history together.

So we don't want anything to do with Biafra, I have no business with it. Infact I believe maybe IKA people can do a referendum on who they wish to join. We could even exchange communities. We could swap the Edo speaking communities in Ika for igbanke. Why should we fight ourselves when we can be diplomatic.

Keep your insults and verbal abuse with you in the east. I have people in the east who I trade with, some of my closest friends are from the east and they have lived their whole lives in Benin.

I hope I have put your mind to rest.
Spoken like a matured mind.

You are acting like a victim now when it was you guys that started the hate when majority of people who replied the OP were civil and showing him true love for his neutral stance.
If we mention people on Atedo Peterside and Prof. Tam David west's level, a whole thread will not be enough, so let's leave it be.

Now, to the mater of maltreatment, you know that you are just conjuring up words, Igbos believe in the spirit of competition, even amongst ourselves because it brings out the best in us. If those who claim to be a victim of healthy competition cannot cope, how is it our fault?

You say we do not show you, love, do you know how many Igbos were victimised because we chose to support, Jonathan your son? People in the SW even thought he was an Igbo man because of the way the Igbos rallied around him and supported him unconditionally. In Lagos, do you know the Igbos were threatened to be drowned (not the Ijaws) in the Lagoon because of the fierce support for Jonathan and the candidate he picked in Lagos?
I was warning my family members who were putting themselves at risk defending and adopting Jonathan as "our son" in Lagos because they knew he was a Bayelsa man but they supported him even though he did practically nothing for the Igbo people.

I guess you guys saw it as a sign of weakness or your true colour just revealed itself after he left. Even here on Nairaland, the Igbos were mocked for Jonathan's loss... what did you guys do? Instead of rallying around them, you turned around to create hate-filled threads too. Then now you turn around to claim victims...

No, we were civil. It is your Igbo people who disrespected us, laid claims to our communities etc. No one will watch anyone disrespect his history and heritage.

Igbo people voted Jonathan because they felt he was a better option against Buhari.

Was there any special benefit Ijaw people got from Jonathan being president?

The primary beneficiaries were the Igbo and Yoruba. If they were foolish enough to replace Jonathan with Buhari it is on them not us!

As Ijaw people we never asked Nigeria for their presidency. What we asked for was homogeneous Ijaw states and 50 percent derivation like it was before the civil war and greater autonomy.

We have always been open and are always open to working with any group in Nigeria if it is of mutual benefit.

We don't see Biafra as something that would benefit us as Ijaw people and I wonder why Igbo people can't respect that. You don't own us!

None of you try to guilt trip Yoruba or Fulani people when you vote them! Jonathan lost because he was associated with Igbo people by the powers that be. He made an Igbo man chief of army staff, a thing that had never happened since 1970 and since his departure no Igbo has been included in Nigeria's security architecture.

The issue was never competition. If competition is fair we can thrive. Under the now defunct eastern region nepotism was prevalent.

Yes, Igbo were threatened to be thrown into the lagoon in Lagos, is it only Ijaw and Igbo people that are suffering from Buhari's misrule? Both the Fulani and Yoruba are suffering too. Every ethnic nation is suffering too.

We didn't ask people to support Jonathan because he was Ijaw, we asked them to support him because he was the better candidate between the major contenders.

Sometimes our being reasonable in a country people are not being reasonable has been our greatest undoing as Ijaw people.

Please, be fair in your assessment, check the front page where known anti-Igbo agents like the adakaboro guy and others came cursing the OP and the other Igbo respondents.

No, Jonathan did not lose because he was associated with the Igbos, he lost because Buhari partnered with the Yorubas to get more votes from the south. Secondly, there was already a strong voters apathy within the South East because the resurgence of the pro-biafra resurgence was getting stronger although there was a strong unflinching support within the large Igbo groups living outside of the SE... In Lagos for example. Buhari has always maintained his 12 million vote base, always.
We had other Igbos we could vote for, but they adopted your son.

As to who benefited more, nope the North benefited more and not the Igbos.

It was after Jonathan's loss that the strong anti-Igbo hates from Ijaws surged. At a time where they Igbos were being mocked and booed. The guys we took the fall for now joined in the mockery and showed your true feelings.

On the issue of Biafra, the strongest of the extremist have always voted for choice in a referendum. Nobody ever have ever forced you to join. It was even Dokubo that championed for the Ijaw people before his fall out with MNK.

Now, most people are strongly believe in the Ijaw exclusion because it is obvious you didn't ride with us. We have included you in the past because we were part of the same region and seen the same but as you have shown betrayal now and in the past for the dream (which I won't blame you for it) we have accepted and excluded you in the most amicable way.

So, I don't think you guys need to make any fuss.. Ijaw is not part of Biafra, neither is Edo or Edoid groups.

I agree with you on most of what you wrote. Yes, Buhari won due to Yoruba support. Don't forget the Yoruba always claimed their reason for supporting Buhari was because Jonathan empowered Igbo people.

The reason why Ijaw people are very angry with the Igbo in the post Jonathan era is particularly because of IPOB extremists and the refusal of other Igbo to speak up against them.

Nnamdi Kanu and his followers have been trying to force Biafra on us and when ever people reject it they say unpleasant things about Ijaw people and Ijaw people respond in kind.

I believe that has been the issue, as long as Nigeria exists I don't see why the Igbo and Ijaw can't work together for their mutual benefits. We don't have to love ourselves to work together, we can work together for shared common interests.

We belonged to the defunct Midwest, East and West.

If there would be a referendum it will be on if we want to form our own country. Igbo people are not in a position to make poliitical choices for us. That's rude.
