THE CRISIS IN OYO: Fulani Colonialism in Action. By Akin Ajose-Adeogun (7 December, 1958 - 21 February, 2021) I am a realist to whom it has long been clear, before the present crisis in Oyo confirmed it beyond any doubt, that the Fulani leaders are neither well-intentioned nor interested in being co-equal partners in the Nigerian Federation. These strange persons with strange attitudes, for reasons that are hard to understand, feel entitled to dominate, exploit and abuse other partners in the Nigerian Federation. None of these Fulani leaders have empathised with the victims of the depredations of the so-called herdsmen across the country. Rather, by some perverse reasoning, they prefer to alter the plain facts of what is happening and seek to portray the victims as the aggressors and the aggressors as the victims. Sadly, Southerners have for far too long tolerated the outrageous behaviour of these spoilt, malevolent, childish pisspots within the Nigerian Federation. Azikiwe and the NCNC brought them to a central position of power in 1959. Okpara and the NCNC colluded with them in 1962 to subvert democracy and the rule of law in Western Nigeria. The Yoruba and the Southern and Northern minorities joined them in fighting to preserve a Federation in which they have never respected the principle of equality of status nor the rights, interests or aspirations of others. The Southern minorities, who today bitterly complain about exploitation and oppression, voted to bring them back again to a central position of power in 1979, thereby squandering the best opportunity to restore the balance of power in our lopsided Federation. In 1999, at a time when the clamour for "restructuring" was approaching its zenith, the peoples of the South-East, South-South and North-Central, as if under the influence of hypnosis, rejected the candidate who campaigned on the issue of devolution. Finally, in 2015, the South-West, which had long held the moral high ground by its splendid isolation in principled political opposition, also descended into the mental and moral mistiness that had long engulfed Southern and Central Nigeria. It must be obvious today to all informed and thinking persons that Southern and Central Nigeria are at a decisive juncture in which a final decision and stand have to be taken for posterity. Are we to continue to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm or are we to put an end, once and for all, to the ramshackle edifice of Fulani colonialism and its economic exploitation, political domination, and the debasing of the human personality? I believe that the answer is clear: we have tried to lift the relationship on to a reasonable plane, but it is time to abandon the unequal struggle. Akin A. Ajose-Adeogun, erudite lawyer, astute writer, diligent historian, publisher, human rights promoter, social critic. |

Yes, let southern Nigeria unite for once and for a common interest, don't thinking minds know that the fulani north like seeing us divided and even deliberately peach us against ourselves. I watched a news that showed a debate between a Yoruba man and Fulani,on this Amotekun thing...you need to see how the fulani man was against, Amotekun talking about it with unease and discomfort, even after he was told that Amotekun was to curb herdsmen and checkmate security in the south west,he started saying what OPC did to igbos in an election, bringing up, something contrary to the topic being discussed. If we in the south continue like this,it may result in the real conquering of all of us eventually, so let's suspend our fights and quarrels now! and look on to better supporting our selves for growth and development. Enough said. |

The late Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Major Gideon Gwarza Orkar wanted to save Nigeria from the griphold of these terrorists but they were seen as violent separatist. |

Truth is, Fulani can't achieve anything without willing accomplices. Be it Hausa, NCNC, Middle Belt, SE, SW, they lack the capacity to go it all alone without standing on the shoulders of others. I wonder if they'll have any shoulder to stand on after 2023 with the present conflagration they've started. |
