Is he afraid? He needs not rush to the media to exonerate himself if he has no skeleton in his cupboard. The good news is, the apc isn't going to retain power come 2023 and they already know they'd not come back with all the wahala they've put Nigerians into but they'd try hard to ensure their mess is covered but it won't work.
