If Nigerian hope should be restored politically we must call for the Diaspora to come and Head Nigerian president and move Nigeria forward, The home politician had let Nigerian down and they can never do miracle to safe Nigerian any longer.
When am saying Diaspora, I mean those abroad and from African country.

I agree 100%. Nigerians from the diaspora who have lived in the U.S., Europe or Asia should be ruling Nigeria. Local Nigerians are almost like talking monkeys.

As a diasporian, I'm afraid I can not wholly agree.

You see, diasporians kind of have expectations of life working like it does in diaspora and fail to understand that Nigerians do not think nor reason like diasporians.

A Nigerian, for instance, will rely much on their Gods that tend to be outside of themselves, while those the diasporian works with in diaspora would more likely rely on the Holy Spirit that God put inside of themselves. So while the Nigerian will be waiting for God their master to do the work for them, those the diasporian works with abroad will be making God work for them like God is their slave unlike the Nigerian who seems to be enslaved to their God.

Can you therefore see how the diasporian might find it difficult to lead those who obey their Gods as opposed to those who order their Gods to obey them like they might be use to in diasporia?

So, perhaps a caveat. A diasporian who understands Nigeria, though, personally, a Nigerian from just about anywhere, including Nigeria, with knowledge of human nature, will be the best candidate to lead.

OP, for your information, most of Nigeria politicians and leaders where once in the diaspora. Some were renowned professionals in their various fields but when they enter Nigeria politics they get kaputt.

One aspect of experience that we in diaspora lack is the experience we can only have gained in Nigeria which we have not gained in diaspora unless we put in the effort to gain it in Nigeria which most don't bother to first gain.

We diasporians must serve an apprenticeship in Nigeria before we can hope to lead. But that's beside the point. Most diasporians fall flat on their faces even before being nominated to run for posts in parties. You just need know the numerous Nigerians who ran home to contest elections to know this. Most are back in the diaspora they came from lamenting how foolish they were to be so easily separated from their money by more wily savvy Nigerians.

Chris ngige, ibori were all diasporans,

What did they do for their various states.

Sowore is a diasporan, what has he done for Nigeria except creating more troubles.

A diasporan from Illinois was made a vc in a federal university, what did he do except giving himself good takaway benefits.

Diasporans and home based Nigerians are all the same, they both lack vision, the diasporan is only loyal in his country of destination because of laws and to impress the citizens, once they enter Nigeria, they become the former touts they were

gain an apprenticeship in Nigerian politics?
means you are not aware of Nigerian politics and policy.
take for example insurgency, that last for that so long, electricity, infrastructure in general which you see hopeful.

You're talking nonsense. All those you mentioned went through the diasporan experience but never allowed the diasporan experience to go through them.

Ibori was a frigging cashier at a UK Diy chain for f.ck sake when he was convicted of defrauding the store he worked in. Fayose was a yahooze. If you know his UK history, as Nigerians in the UK do, you will know he was about that life before coming to 're-invent' himself in Nigeria as Ibori, Kashamu and many, many other did.

Many diasporan who come back to enter politics in Nigeria are the dreggs of the diasporan community with nothing to offer anyone. That's why they fail in Nigeria and achieve nothing of note in politics.

They just want to touch billionaire level their limited talent and ability will not allow them reach in the diaspora so they decided to hijack the 'lush' and easy Nigerian political 'gold mine'.

You wan't the right sort of diasporan then look at people like those shown below. There are literally thousands of them doing great things. In Nigeria.

Legitimately successful, innovative and visionary diasporans are different to losers who have failed abroad and just want to come back to Nigeria for a big pay day. The sad thing is that the sort of diasporans required tend to stay away from Nigerian politics.

"Serve an apprenticeship", as in, learn about Nigeria (the society, how the people reason and think, how things work or don't work, why Nigeria is the way it is, etc etc etc), before intending to lead Nigeria to become the great nation it is destined to become, because one can not lead a people in a nation that one does not understand.

Bro, you're a clever, pragmatic and solution-driven individual. I have political ambitions but what you highlight is exactly what I have been doing since returning from the diaspora.

Business and industrial success first while I 'familiarize' myself with the terrain to see if I can be of help to Nigerians in a leadership role.

Anyone who comes from the diaspora to dive in straightaway in Nigerian politics must be a get-rich-quick crook looking to 'buy' political clout and office (like Ibori, Kashamu and co) or a naive and very ignorant optimist who will probably die early of frustration as will likely happen to Sowore.

You are right brah. I can cite some examples:

Bola Tinubu- Forfeited 460k for money laundering heroin proceeds for two members of his heroin gang in Chicago
James Ibori- Was indicted for theft when he was a cashier at a UK DIY chain.
Femi Gbajabiamila - Was indicted for stealing $25000 paid in insurance claim for an accident victim he represented when he was a lawyer.
Diezani Madueke - Returend to Nigeria after schooling in Howard University in United States. And went to pull one of the biggest heists against the country.
Dimeji Bankole - Former Speaker of House of Representives that schooled in the prestigious Oxford Univeristy in United Kingdom was emeshed in a N40 billion car purchase scandal during his tenure.
Fani Kayode - Studied law in prestigious Cambridge Univeristy in United Kingdom and is currently being prosecuted by EFCC for looting billions when he was Minister of Aviation.

Fela will say, "if dem want to knack your head, na from back", which is why you will blame Nigerian politicians and not us who elect them. First we convince ourselves that politicians have two better heads than our one head, and then we make out that our vote does not count so we can convince ourselves we did not put them their to lead us.

Nigerian politicians are not some species from Mars. They are Nigerians, you and I, who through our negligence and irresponsibility for our nation have left governance to a few selfish individuals who think only of themselves.

When we, you and I, realise that we are responsible for the state our nation is in, we will stop ruining it and become the leaders who will make our nation great.

No. You need a Diaspora who has excelled in a culture of providing solution but must also be able to unite that quality with the peculiarity and unique difficulties of Nigeria to move our nation forward.

That's why the Cat you're talking to was particular about diasporans needing an "apprentice period" to help them understand Nigeria.

Any diasporans that want's to lead Nigeria to greatness will retain their core skills from abroad while learning to adapt those skills for efficacy in the very unique and challenging environment Nigeria presents.

That is precisely what I discovered from listening to many of my own peers who returned to Nigeria to enter politics. And since most of them did not bother to learn about Nigeria, they are back in diaspora driving mini cabs or door security having lost the little they went home with to the more savvy Nigerians they met there.

I can't have political ambitions myself, I'm afraid. I'd be like Jesus whom many thought would come and free them from the Romans only for him to tell them to remove the forest in their own eyes first. My people will just crucify me, lol, like they do on here often I'm afraid, but I will continue to do my bit.

Unfortunately this is the the most common of outcome for many diasporans who relocate to Nigeria for 'Golden opportunities' or heights they feel is unattainable in the diaspora.

The mistake those Nigerians make is that they don't try to study Nigeria, as you advised, to understand how they can use their unique skills and knowledge to add value to the lives of the people and to the Country in general

Many diasporans come back to Nigeria with the illusions they are superior and will automatically succeed and dominate.

The fact is that skills and knowledge gained in the diaspora are fantastic but new skills a d knowledge to be gained in Nigeria will equally be of utmost importance for diasporans wanting to move back and thrive in business, administration, professional pursuit or politics.

Sowore is the biggest and most laughable example. He ignorantly assumed Nigerians at home are like those in his USA diaspora base who are ideologically staunch and politically sophisticated enough to see what he does and support him to victory.

Needless to say he did terrible at the polls and this, I am sure, precipitated the 'madness' and attention-seeking we are seeing from him today.

I am an APC member and will urge you to become one too even if you have every intention of pushing your nairaland democratic Party as far as possible.

Often, the only way to make a difference in Nigeria is from within. That is one of the things your suggested 'apprenticeship' should teach any diaspora who is willing to take time to understand Nigeria before ever throwing themselves in at the deep end.

The Nairaland Democratic Party is an unregistered non-denominational non-partisan party. Members may support APC or PDP or any other party depending on the location or/and candidate, since good and bad people are in all parties.

The intention is solely to unite those who will the best for our nation. The pulling together of minds might make us almost 3million Nairalanders influential in the choice of those who lead us.
