it happened last year on two different occasions the shock I received from the incident made me think of committing suicide I invested as much as 600k in ground nut, watermelon, maize, and cassava on 8 hectares of land the Fulani herdsmen were coming in the night to destroy farms they had no wives so they lived ruthlessly during the day time when ever we met they'll ask me if there's anything for them to eat at times I will give them some roasted yams after all we understand the same language, hausa one day on Sunday I went to the farm only to see that all my ground nut and maize was eaten up by cattle I was surprised cause I use to work from 6 am to 6pm sometimes I will go for break for 2-3 hours and it was always during my break period that cattle will come and eat up some parts of the farm so I decided to hide with my pregnant wife and see who was controlling the cattle to my greatest surprise it was the same guy that I usually give roasted yams and water that was behind this damage so I and my wife came out of our hiding place and approached him I asked him why he was paying me evil for good his response was that "I should ask my father and mother" I said ok since my father is dead and my mom was not around were going to ask each other upon hearing this he brought out his sharp matchet from it's sheath and was coming towards me I felt like running but I knew that if I just turned my back on him he will cut my arm very easy so I made up my mind to fight him we engaged in a serious fight that lasted for over 3hours and his matchet fell from his grip my wife came to hold me cause I threw him to the ground and I was sitting on him upon seeing my wife i don't know how this guy managed to kick my pregnant wife on the stomach when I I saw his determination to harm me by all means I told my wife to get me a rope but she was rolling and crying in pains so I removed my shirt and tie him up by then it was dark so I handed him to the local vigilante I told them to hand him to the police the next day before I could get to the vigilante office they have already collected 5k from the boy and freed him without compensating me I reported the issue to the police they demanded 10k from me that they were going to make sure I got justice but nothing was done all these happened in yagba east local government in kogi state the police station is located in ifelukotun in yagba east local government in kogi the name of the dpo in the station is Dsp mariam allero when I saw that nothing was done I reported the issue to the police public relations officer of the whole kogi state mr A.y.a but nothing was done I was not compensated and the fulani guy upon his release he organized his colleagues they came back and finished the remaining crops on my farm and as if that wasn't enough they were looking for me to kill me they set my house on fire and I was not left with any choice than to abandon my farm and run for my life right now as I'm typing this there's no single farmer in the rural areas in yagba east local government in kogi state they've been chased by fulani herdsmen and all there crops have been destroyed I pray the governor of kogi state do something about this cause people are starving in that area from kponyan to isanlu

This is sad... At this rate, these herdsmen will plunge Nigeria into famine. I am glad you are safe.

What a pity.

Don't you have picture evidence, maybe it will help this your post to get to the front page.

I'm so sorry about this terrible ordeal of yours. Is the money you invested in it a loan or your savings? How's your wife doing now?

The Mods might not push it to the from page without pic. And it won't get enough attention it needs.

This your story is so disheartening.

Insecurity have gotten really bad in this country.

Just protect your wife and the boy. They have marked you .if you show mercy to fulani men, you are next target. They would see you as weakling.

The worst thing you can do to a Fulani is to show him goodness.

If you give help to a Fulani, they will come for your life. They hate people that help them.

FACT

They fear you if you no "send" them.

Your story lost all credibility when you claimed to have fought a man with a cutlass for THREE HOURS. Your career as a fiction writer is not going to be successful if this is your best effort so far.

These herdsmen are selfish ruthless bastards and the only thing they understand is violence. The people of Yagba especially the youths should unite and form a local vigilante against these herdsmen. Untill then, please stay safe with your wife. Don't go home. That bastard you gave yam sees it as his tribal duty to kill you. God will help you in this trying times.

Fulani herdsmen value cow lives more than lives of other humans. To them, its not wickedness #fact.

I empathize with you. It's devastating after all the sweat, toil, money and time you've invested in this venture, only to be betrayed and ruined by someone you showed mercy to.

I have been meaning to start my farm too but this herdsmen issue has been worrying my Mum. She keeps advising me to focus on livestock and leave cropping for when sanity returns to the country.

Sadly many people do not know that this herdsmen threat is very evident, and it's threatening food security in the country.

The OP for crime section of Nairaland is probably a city boy, he may not give a hoot about your problems. Please post this in Agric section too. I believe the admin Pavore who's an Agric enthusiast may be willing to push it to front page.

I have no doubt about his story. I'm from that area and I have had some experience with the herdsmen but not as bad as his.
I took his cutlass and send him away but he came back and destroyed the remaining part of the farm. I later heard they were looking for me.
But some of those Fulani ìn my place already have built houses and have their children and even grand children in the community. They can't run away like that.

Don't mind him jare. He doesn't know anything about the farmers Fulani settings.
I used to be a full-time farmer in the same area before relocating. It's worse than people realize.
