JeAgro477:
when you feed your watermelon with the right fertilizers at the right time it will produce bigger balls than smaller balls and this will maximize your profits cause the bigger the ball the higher the price with pruning bigger balls can be achieved though it's painful and back breaking pruning simply means the cutting away of smaller balls and leaving the bigger balls
After all the fertilization, will the watermelon still be considered organic? Or do you use organic fertilizers?

I've been a watermelon farmer for over 8 years now. There's no secret in water melon farming that I don't know from it's disease, how to plant the best method to adopt and so on.

I've learned so many things along these years, as a matter of fact, there are things that I learned the hard way.

These pictures were taken last year. I've planted on ten acres this year. If there's anything you want to know about watermelon farming feel free to follow this thread. I'll be lecturing you on how to plant watermelon, maize, sesame seed, rice yam ground nut free of charge. I've been growing all these crops right from child hood so I'm supposed to know better.

Welcome to my world of watermelon.
Can I have your contact number please. Thank you

watermelon is highly profitable when done the right way but mind y'all when you don't treat it the way it likes you will fail woefully and blame it on village people
How do you get buyers?

I advice you to limit your posts about this to once or twice daily. You can write everything ahead in small posts and schedule what you will post daily. That way you can maintain longevity of your thread while keeping traders informed and educated. Good work you are doing and may God bless your hustle. Do you have a farm management software? I can recommend one for you to use at almost zero cost. It can aid you in planning the daily activities on the farm. The data you get can give you very good insight on your productivity and profitability

my problem with watermelon is weed management. Have you tried any selective post emergence herbicide? Did it affect the yield?
Re: My Watermelon Farming Experience by chelsea04(m): 7:47pm On Mar 16, 2021

This is very good analysis. Waiting for the cost analysis. In my experience tho, watermelon can be very profitable. One acre of watermelon can give you better gross income than one acre of Cassava, and the cost of growing the melon is lesser than the cost of growing Cassava. Plus, you sell in 10 weeks unlike a year for Cassava. But, it's very risky. I hope to plant it again sometime in the year. Is your farm located in the southwest? Mine is. What period of the year do you think is best for watermelon (for farmers who don't have drip irrigation)?
As a corp member thinking out of getting job after the service, Agriculture always comes to mind. Cassava has been where I want to start due to its resistance and available expertise (many do plant it), The land(1 hectare) is available but my though is is it really worth waiting a year for?

I know nothing is constant in agriculture but forecast is possible everywhere. Please like how much will I spend In cultivating a cassava(leaving no stone unturned)farm (1hectare)and how much is the possible return?
