watermelon takes more than theory don't listen to all these online and e-book farmers that don't have a farm of their own they only want you to pay for their trainings and sell e-books to you its not all rosy as they paint but the good news is that if you heed advice from a practical farmer and adhere to GAP the result will be awesome
Hello.
I'm about to venture into watermelon cultivation and I'm in the south south part of Nigeria.
I bought the sweet sangria f1 specie and I'm waiting for the rain.
do I have to make beds to plant it?
Also I don't have any source of water close to the farm. what do you advice on this?
I hope to count on your wealth of experience and knowledge pls.

I've been a watermelon farmer for over 8 years now. There's no secret in water melon farming that I don't know from it's disease, how to plant the best method to adopt and so on.

I've learned so many things along these years, as a matter of fact, there are things that I learned the hard way.

These pictures were taken last year. I've planted on ten acres this year. If there's anything you want to know about watermelon farming feel free to follow this thread. I'll be lecturing you on how to plant watermelon, maize, sesame seed, rice yam ground nut free of charge. I've been growing all these crops right from child hood so I'm supposed to know better.

Welcome to my world of watermelon.

Bros, con gimme some watermelon na

I learnt that source of seed matters alot as well as treating the seed before planting. I will like to know the name of the seed u have been using as well as chemical used in treating the seed.
Secondly is it cost effective using drip irrigation, if yes which products last longer from experience
Re: My Watermelon Farming Experience by zuxstine: 10:38pm On Mar 16, 2021
There is this farmer around my neighborhood he is good at cucumber and watermelon farming. But he does not share the knowledge, if he helps you to buy seed he normally removes the label so you won't get to know the brand of seed he bought. So how can one get a good seed

I wanted to start as a pilot programme and my land is considerably small.can I plant maize and cassava along side the watermelon?
wouldn't it be economical if I hire one to spray the farm, than own a knapsack at this level?

follow the thread from page one you will see the answers to your first question.No.2.Drip irrigation is cost effective but the best the drip tapes always expires after 16 months due to heat from the run

Getting good seeds is not rocket science you can always get them from agro chemical shops but if you don't mind i can source them for you

Water melon performs best when done mono but if you are addicted to mixed cropping i'll recomend you to plant either millet or maize when the melon is one month old

Which State in particular is this?
The Southerners can change the food music,if they are not lazy,as i can see a big harvest,if our lazy State governments can give Grants to many jobless Youth in their States for farming. The grants will help in the initial Capital and reduced the burden of loans from the banks.

After all the fertilization, will the watermelon still be considered organic? Or do you use organic fertilizers?
Lol
It is rare to eat organic produce In this. Country, unless you farm what you eat...anything coming from north bucha inorganic.

And they feed the nation.
