WB bosses were saying it was too dark when they saw the first cut, but he was ready to fight after putting time and resources into it, his wife Debby, even advised him to fight, because there was a legal binding contract, and the WB bosses knew the direction the movie was to take before embarking on the project, changing it half way was like a breach of contract but after Zack's daughter took her life, he had no fight left in him so he had to step down and let WB have their way.
