Sadiya Umar Farouq says the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development has no link to the alleged N2.67bn school feeding fraud uncovered by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The ICPC disclosed on Monday that N2.67 billion paid to some federal colleges for school feeding during the COVID-19 lockdown ended up in private bank accounts.

But in a statement issued by Nneka Ikem Anibeze, her special assistant on media and publicity, Umar Farouq said the school feeding in question is different from the home grown school feeding programme which is one of the humanitarian ministry’s social investment programmes (SIP).

The minister said in August that the federal government spent over N500 million to feed pupils during the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

She said the home grown school feeding programme is for pupils in primaries 1-3 in select public schools across the country, and not for college students.

She also said other cases of fraud mentioned by the ICPC have nothing to do with her ministry.

“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development hereby informs the public that the Federal Government Colleges school feeding in question is different from the Home Grown School Feeding which is one of its Social Investment Programmes,” the statement read.

“That the School Feeding under scrutiny is feeding of students in Federal Government Colleges across the country and is not under the Federal ministry of Humanitarian Affairs which only oversees Home Grown School Feeding for children in Primaries 1-3 in select public schools across the country.

“That the over N2.5 billion which was reportedly misappropriated by a senior civil servant (name withheld) took place in a different ministry and not the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.”

The minister asked the ICPC to publish the names of persons complicit in the school feeding fraud and to freeze the accounts where the missing funds were found.

“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development calls on The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC to publish the names of persons, federal colleges and school heads whose names have been found to be associated with the missing funds and also freeze the accounts where the said funds were diverted,” she said.

“The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs therefore calls on the general public to disregard the false reports being linked to the ministry as it is not in anyway involved in the Federal Government Colleges School Feeding.”

The high and mighty of Ideato North and Ideato South of Imo State paid a solidarity visit to Governor Hope Uzodinma on Friday, to pledge their loyalty and at the same time present a list of amenities needed in the area.

The surprise was that they also used the occasion to denounce their son, Senator Rochas Okorocha for doing nothing for the people, when he was governor between 2011 and 2019.

The Ideato people are lucky though: Uzodinma is also their in-law

Led by Chief Tony Ezenna, Chairman of Orange Drugs Limited and key traditional rulers, they said Rochas Okorocha , who was governor for eight years, neglected them and their needs.

They expressed confidence that Hope Uzodinma will give them hope and wipe their tears.

Ezenna said his people were excited about the emergence of Uzodimma as Governor of Imo State.

Addressing the visitors, the Governor explained that God did not make mistakes in bringing him on board the leadership of Imo State, and that what the Ideato Nation were not able to get from past administrations God could use him to actualize it.

Uzodimma said he is conversant with their problems as enumerated by them and at such will, after proper government assessment and procedures, tackle the problems head on.

He informed the audience that satisfying their yearnings as part of Imo people he would be justifying the confidence reposed in him by them.

He specifically commended the lawmakers representing Ideato North and Ideato South in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Arthur Egwim and Hon. Johnson Duru for their positive contributions in the House.

He also commended Gloria Uche Mbadiwe, chairman of the Interim Management Committee for Ideato North and Chukwuma Ikeaka, her counterpart in Ideato South.

Uzodinma praised their doggedness in the administration of the two Local Governments Areas, which he believes will bring development.

The Governor thanked the traditional rulers led by the Chairman of Ideato North and South Council of Ndi Eze, HRH. Eze Gerald Ezeiheakaibeya of Umuma- Isiaku Autonomous Community for their efforts towards peace and progress in their various communities.

Governor Uzodimma assured them that his All Progressive Congress (APC) government is working towards making all Imo people happy. Ideato Nation will not be left out, he said.

In their written address signed by Chief Ezenna, he described Governor Uzodimma as the “Governor whom we are well pleased,” and congratulated him on his well deserved election.

Ezenna thanked Uzodinma for finding some of the Ideato Nation’s sons and daughters worthy to be appointed into various offices in his administration, noting that they have never been so favoured.

According to Ezenna, the major reasons for their visit was to relate to him some of their teething problems and needs which they believe the Governor will passionately look into and help them solve.

These needs include the bad state of: Orlu-Akokwa to Uga Road which is the major road connecting them as a constituency with the rest of Imo State and the Ntueke-Isiekenesi-Dikenafai Road which they described as a death trap.

Also, he informed the Governor that Ideato North and South have been in complete darkness as a result of power outage for about 12 years now, and pleaded with him to extend the on-going power distribution from Egbu to Nwaorieubi via Banana junction to Ideato.

Lastly, they asked for the establishment of a functional General Hospital in Ideato to complement the services of Urualla Mission Hospital.

The two lawmakers for Ideato North and South pledged their continued support to the programmes and policies of the Governor.

The two Chairmen of Ideato North and South appealed to the Governor to passionately look at the request of their people especially as it concerns electricity and come to their aid.

On their part, the traditional rulers reassured the Governor of their prayers, continued support and loyalty, and readiness at all times to mobilize Ideato men and women to support his programmes and activities, and appealed with him to critically look at their presentations and save them from the present quagmire they find themselves.

Present at the visit were the Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, the Chief of State Government House, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie and other members of the Imo State Executive Council.

RE: DR. KAYODE FAYEMI ANTI - PARTY ACTIVITIES.

After painstakingly reviewing the activities of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, we the authentic members of the Party in the State and Members of State Executive Committee per Section 12.8 of APC Constitution being duly constituted members of the National Convention of the Party, rose from its meeting of the 23rd September, 2020 and resolved as follows:

1. We note the continued illegalities in the name of the party, being conducted by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who as Governor is an ordinary member of the SEC and ought to have called meetings of this duly constituted body as a critical party organ, has failed to do so since his assumption of office in 2018.

2.That the body currently masquerading as the elected members of the SEC or as the State Working Committee or appendages is unknown to us (as due statutory members of SEC) since no Ward Congress has taken place in Ekiti State APC since inception. All SEC members listed in Section 12.8 of our constitution, (i) to (xxvii) as such are open positions since only duly officiated Ward congresses with INEC observation can fill these positions.

3.As such, only the duly elected members of the APC in the state serving as Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker & Deputy Speaker as well as Principal Officers of the House and Members of the National Convention which includes all present and past National Assembly members today constitute the State SEC of our great party.

4.To this end, in the absence of a properly organized body and meeting, and the continued insistence of the Governor to neglect his duty to initiate Ward Congresses or call a meeting of the SEC to deliberate upon pertinent issues, we as loyal members of our party and members of the State Executive Committee met to rescue our party from continued denigration and abuse, and resolved thus:

1.That Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State is hereby suspended from the Party in view of his numerous anti-Party activities especially his role in the recent concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.
For five days prior to the Edo elections Gov Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr Femi Fani- Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run up to the Edo elections . It was here they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State. This is same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.

Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu.

1 (a) We also have evidence of celebration by his aides in Ekiti government house and on social media.

1(b) We also recall his role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate. A second tranche of money he sent to Gov Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers. The courier Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief Protocol Officer was arrested and he immediately disowned and announced his sack . Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.

1(c) We also recall the support he provided a PDP candidate who challenged an APC Senator Prince Dayo Adeyeye in the Tribunal. He moved the judges to Kaduna to deliver judgement when he knew what he planned against his party was unpopular in Ekiti. We have more to tell on this betrayal and traitorous act of his. APC Senator is out of the Senate today and PDP is in. The relationship between Fayemi and Senator Olujimi of PDP , the beneficiary of his treachery is known to all in Ekiti State.

We also recall his resort to court when majority of party members nominated late Senator Abiola Ajimobi for Deputy National Chairman of the party. He fought Ajimobi till death.

1(d) His fraternisation with the PDP in continuation of his bid for Vice Presidential candidate under the party ( if his bid for Presidential candidate in APC fails ) was masked by commissioning of projects in Rivers State, a smokescreen for his consultation to woo the support of Governor Nyesom Wike last year .

2. That the Paul Omotosho led faction of APC Executive in the State is hereby declared illegal and suspended from the Party for failure to emerge in accordance to the Constitution of the Party.

3.That Paul Omotoso and his co travellers's refusal to respect court proceedings in which they are not only joined but appeared in court through the proceedings but defiantly disrespected the court contrary to the hallowed decision of the Supreme Court in OJUKWU vs GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

4.That Paul Omotosho faction of the executive should desist from parading themselves as the Executive Members of the Party in the State and that the Nigerian Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public should take note.

5.That Senator Tony Adeniyi, as a statutory member of the SEC going by our party’s constitution, was elected by all members attending as the Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee in the absence of direction or directive from the National Body. He is as such the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.

6.The committee seating also agreed to begin bridge building across our members, statewide and nationally, and set up a special intervention committee, APC Majeobaje Working Group, to be led by Prince Bamgboye Adegoroye, and six other individuals from across our great state. That working group will henceforth do the hard work of rebuilding APC in Ekiti state and prevent the oncoming annihilation of our party if we take no action at the upcoming polls.

We note that the All Progressives Congress is a party of progressives, and must do things only in line with the law. The APC cannot act against its constitution or the law of the land, hence this intervention became urgently necessary and pertinent before marauders destroy the party permanently.

It must be emphasized that with the increasingly discerning capacity and sophistication of our people we cannot afford to take them for granted. We must be able to sustain the relevance of our party in Ekiti State, hold our members and win new members. We are obligated to ensure that the light of our electoral prospect and fortune is not dimmed or extinguished.

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of 30 new special assistants on social media bringing the total number of new aides to 672.

Daily Trust reports that the governor had earlier appointed 642 aides who included senior special assistants, special assistants and liaison officers.

The appointments were contained in a letter signed by the Press Secretary to Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Abdullahi.

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that he will speak on the party’s loss in the Edo governorship election at the right time.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced that PDP candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki, polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival and APC candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who got 223,619 votes.

INEC also on Tuesday presented certificates of return to the re-elected governor and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, at INEC office in Aduwawa, Benin City, the state capital.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, said that his principal would speak “at the appropriate time”.

“Asiwaju has not spoken. At the appropriate time, he will speak on that election,” Rahman said.

President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC national body had since conceded defeat and congratulated Obaseki on his re-election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered another defeat, this time around in Niger state as the Niger state National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal ruled against the party in a petition filed by Mr Emma Alamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The petition follows the outcome of the bye election for Magama /Rijau federal constituency held on March 14 which the APC candidate Alhaji Kasim Danjuma initially won.

The PDP candidate after the contest petitioned the tribunal, on the ground that the APC candidate was not qualified to have contested the election for submitting forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC which used the said fake documents to clear the APC candidate.

According to the petitioner Kassim Danjuma presented fake primary school certificate and forged declaration of age to INEC for the clearance.

Counsel to the petitioner Mohammed Ndayako therefore asked the tribunal to quash the victory of the APC candidate and declare the PDP contestant the winner.

In its judgement on Monday, the three man tribunal headed by Justice B. F Zubairu in a unanimous judgement upheld the petition and declared the victory of Kassim Danjuma null and void.

In the judgement the tribunal said the petitioner proved beyond reasonable doubts that the first respondent presented forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission which enabled him to contest the election.

The tribunal therefore annulled the election and directed INEC to conduct fresh election in the constituency within the next 90 days.

It also ruled that kassim Danjuma and his party the APC will not be eligible to contest in the bye election.
Other members of the three man panel are Justice A O Lajide and Khadi M Y Usman.

Counsel to the petitioner Alhaji ,Mohammed Ndayako hailed the judgement of the tribunal describing it as victory for democracy.

Ndayako said the judgement will also teach all those aspiring for public offices to always remain above board and avoid taking short cut to victory.

The APC had recently lost three local government chairman seats to the PDP on similar grounds.

On the September 17, 2000, Lionel Messi arrived in Barcelona.

Accompanied by his father, the young Argentine's dream was to sign for Barcelona.

It wasn't an easy process, but eventually the two sides came to an agreement and Messi joined the club's junior ranks.

From there he became the best player in the world and arguably one of the greatest to have ever played the game.

In those 20 years, he has won everything with Barcelona, on a collective as well as an individual level.

Messi has been a great champion and far exceeded the dreams he had when flying over from Rosario that day.

And there have been some incredible moments that no one will forget.

Messi's debut for the club came under Frank Rijkaard in 2004 at just 17, with his first goal coming against Albacete the following year - a beautiful lob after a pass from his idol, Ronaldinho.

And it didn't take long for Messi to take off, with his 2007 Maradona-esque goal against Getafe perhaps doing the most to announce himself to the world.

After the introduction came the trophies, particularly after Pep Guardiola took charge at the Camp Nou in 2008.

In 2009, Barcelona won six trophies, with Messi adding his first Ballon d'Or to that haul.

And his display as a 'false 9' in Barcelona's 6-2 hammering of Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu elevated his status to a new level altogether.

And that level barely dipped over the following years, with Messi reaching his zenith in 2012 with an incredible 91 goals in the calendar year.

Two more Champions League titles came in 2011 and 2015, before the Blaugrana became domestic kings, winning LaLiga Santander five times in six seasons between 2015 and 2019.

But now, disillusioned with the club's progress, Messi appears to be on the way out.

Nonetheless, we take this moment to remember his amazing feats and celebrate the presence in Spain - for so many years - of the world's most special player.

THE Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has demoted a Venerable in charge of one of the Archdeaconry in Aguata Diocese of the church in Anambra State for allegedly allowing a dismissed priest to sit with him during a burial service.

Vanguard recalls that in 2017, nine priests were dismissed by the church over their alleged involvement in homosexual activities and were thereafter banned from taking part in any church activity.

This made some of them to travel abroad, while others remained in the country. One of those dismissed, (names withheld), who was a chaplain to a former Bishop and has remained in his community attended a burial in his community.

Recently, however, the Archdeacon in charge of the area while presiding at a burial service in the community, invited the dismissed priest to sit with him at the altar, informing the people who were at the burial ceremony that the dismissed priest did not commit any offence and that his `dismissal was due to envy.

On hearing what transpired at the burial ceremony, the Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev Samuel Ezeofor, who was transferred from Ogbaru Diocese to Aguata, decided to set up a panel to investigate the matter.

Following the recommendation of the panel, the Archdeacon was suspended and relieved of his duties and subsequently demoted to an ordinary Reverend.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a 33-year-old operative of the Department of State Services, Sadiq Abdullahi Bindawa, despite receiving N5m as ransom, SaharaReporters has gathered.

The late Bindawa, who worked with the intelligence department of the service in Abuja, was kidnapped alongside his four-year-old son on Saturday at his residence behind Federal Secretariat in Katsina metropolis.

According to a source, the bandits demanded N5m 48 hours after his abduction, which was raised by his family members and colleagues.

The money was taken to Charanchi area of the state on Sunday and the negotiators were told to go and receive him in Kurfi town on Monday morning.

“But when they got to Kurfi as agreed, they met his dead body with multiple gunshots on his head, ears and back. He was buried this morning according to Islamic rights,” the source said.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has thanked fans for their support, and vowed to come back stronger, after suffering from concussion in the game against Bidvest Wits, Completesports.com reports.
Akpeyi collided with Bidvest Wits’ Mxolisi Macuphu while attempting to punch the ball away in the 43rd minute of the keenly contested encounter.
The 34-year-old received medical attention on the pitch before he was strechered off later.
Akpeyi is back on his feet again following the setback, but won’t make an appearance again for the Amakhosi this season.
“To pray is to be in constant fellowship with God, and to be sensitive to the spirit. I win all the time no matter what. I feel so honored by everyone who showed concern and deep love for my recovery, I’m perfect beyond words now. God bless you all#iamamiracle #thegoalstillstands,” Akpeyi tweeted.
He has made 25 league appearances for Kaizer Chiefs this season
