With Coutinho’s Liverpool performances and his £140m move from Anfield to Camp Nou, one would easily expect his move to Barcelona to be eventful. This however has not been the case as we have seen a rather shambolic performance from the Brazilian leading to his move away from the Nou Camp. The move itself wasn’t without controversies as it involved a rather long saga. The Brazilian refused to train with Liverpool citing a back injury, and also provided part of the transfer fee. The events led to a tug-of-war between both outfits with Liverpool not willingly to give up their biggest star. No wonder the high transfer fee (the second highest in Barcelona’s history and the highest in British history). Coutinho left with the mind-set of winning the Champions League at the Nou Camp; something which seemed really possible. However, the decision has come to hunt him as he saw his former side defeat Barcelona to lift the trophy. Consequently, we take a look at the possible reasons for his below par performance for the Blaugrana. The Left Wing Role For most football faithful’s the main reason for his failure is the position where he played often at Camp Nou. Recall that the past three seasons haven’t gone too well for Barcelona in terms of depatrures; including that of big names like Iniesta and Neymar. So, the coming of Coutinho seemed like the perfect move to fill the Iniesta’s position. However, the Barcelona Coach, Valverde opted to play him on the left wing, to fill in for Neymar who left to PSG. Unfortunately, Coutinho fails to possess the speed of a winger, which limits his play on the wings. Also, he has often played in the centre of the park in Liverpool and the change in his position helped to unsettle him. We however saw the Coutinho we know when he played the midfield position for Brazil at was instrumental to their Copa America success. The Real Barcelona’s Number 10:. The presence of a player who is wildly considered to be the Greatest to ever play football hasn’t done the Brazilian much good. The effectiveness and success of Barcelona’s midfielders and attackers over the last decades have always come with their ability to link up with the Argentine,......... Man Utd slipped to a draw at Wolves on Monday evening. The Red Devils failed to bring up the spark that brushed Chelsea away on match day 1. The first half got off to a spark as Anthony Martial put Man Utd ahead with his 50th Man Utd goal. However, the second half didn’t go quite well as planned for Man Utd. De Gea conceded a wonder goal by Rueben Neves. Things went from bad to worst as Rui Patricio saved Paul Pogba’s spot-kick. The visitors threw all in to salvage a point but to no avail. They have now failed to beat wolves in three PL attempts. Wolves continue with their onslaught against the top six Premier league teams. Man Utd will look to bounce back when they face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. Source: https://sportsgee.com/pogbas-penalty-miss-proves-costly-as-man-utd-draw-to-wolves/

Former Liverpool and Barcelona Midfielder Philippe Coutinho has joined Bayern Munich on loan. The playmaker joined the Bundesliga champions from Barcelona. Bayern Munich snapped up the midfielder on a season long loan for £8m including an option to buy for £120m. The Brazilian failed to impress at Barcelona, unable to justify his £140m move from Liverpool. Many fans have been quick to point out his wrong playing position. This could be justified because of his wonderful Copa America performance playing in the right position. The Brazilian would put on the number 10 jersey left by Arjen Roben, hoping to impress at the Alianz Arena. continue reading: https://sportsgee.com/coutinho-joins-bayern-munich-collects-no-10-jersey/

The French Ligue 1 began with Monaco facing Lyon. Moussa Dembele opened the scoring for Lyon under 5 minutes. Former Arsenal and Chelsea Midfielder, Cesc Fabregas saw his initial yellow card for clipping Leo Dubois’ leg turn to red after a VAR review. It went from bad to worse for Monaco as Depay put Lyon 2-nil up. Tousart rounded up the scoring for Sylvinho’s side to see them win 3-0. The summer transfer window has ended in England. Recall that the window now ends a night before the first game. This new rule was introduced last season. The transfer window couldnt have ended without twists, sagas, blockbusters and shocking moves. Perhaps, the most shocking of all is the switch to Arsenal from Chelsea by David Luiz In Man Utd, we saw the transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for a Milan record fee of £74m. Also, the prolonged saga involving the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso was put to rest after Totenham captured their man on loan with an option to buy from Real Betis. Chelsea however, were not able to make any signings (except the permanent deal for Mateo Kovacic who was on loan from Real Madrid) due to their transfer ban. They managed to keep their upcoming star Hudson Odoi and limited departures save that of Eden Hazard who had always expressed his desire to play for Los Blancos. This transfer window has infact been a major one as it saw the Premier League spend £1.41bn. The new additions will however be looking to settle down in what is deemed the toughest league of all. We take a look at the summary of the top six clubs in this transfer window. Arsenal In Nicolas Pepe Lille £72m Kieran Tierney Celtic £25m David Luiz Chelsea £8m Gabriel Martinelli Ituano FC £6m William Saliba Saint Etienne £27m Dani Ceballos Real Madrid Loan Out Alex Iwobi Everton £35m Krystian Bielik Derby £10m Laurent Koscienly Bordeaux £4.6m David Ospina Napoli £3.5m Carl Jenkinson Nottingham Forest £2m Aaron Ramsey Juventus Free Danny Welbeck Watford Free Petr Cech ———— Retired Stephan Lichtsteiner ———— Released Chelsea In Mateo Kovacic Real Madrid £40m Out Eden Hazard Real Madrid £130m Alvaro Morata Atletico Madrid £58.3m Ola Aina Torino £8.9m David Luiz Arsenal £8m Danny Drinkwater Burnley Loan Ethan Ampadu RB Leipzig Loan Liverpool In Sepp van den Berg PEC Zwoolle £1.3m Harvey Elliot Fulham ——– Adrian Real Betis Free Out Rafael Camacho Sporting Lisbon £5m Marko Grujic Hertha Berlin Loan Harry Wilson Bournemouth Loan Alberto Moreno ————– Released Daniel Sturridge ————– Released Adam Bogdan ————– Released Manchester City In Rodri Athletico Madrid £62.5m Joao Cancelo Juventus £60m Angelino PSV Eindhoven £5.3m Scott Carson Derby Loan Out Danilo Juventus £34.1m Douglas Luiz Aston Villa £15m Fabian Delph Everton £10m Patrick Roberts Norwich Loan Vincent Kompany Anderlect Released Manchester United In Harry Maguire Leicester £80m Aaron Wan-Bissaka Crystal Palace £45m Daniel James Swansea £15m Out Romelu Lukaku Inter Milan £74m Dean Henderson Sheffield Utd Loan Ander Herrera PSG Free Antonio Valencia LDU Quito Free Tottenham Hotspur In Tanguy Ndombele Lyon £65m Ryan Sessegnon Fulham £27m Jack Clarke Leeds £8.5m Kion Etete Notts County £200k Giovani Lo Celso Real Betis Loan Out Kerian Trippier Athletico Madrid £20m Vincent Janssen C.F. Barcelona star, Lionel Messi wins UCL Goal of the Season The free-kick goal against Liverpool came in the 73rd minute of the First Leg of their Semi-Final Tie at the Camp Nou. Recall that the goal came from 25 yards out, above the wall and stunning Allison Becker to give the Blaugrana’s a 3-0 lead. However, the goal will mean little or nothing to them as they threw away the 3 goal lead away at Anfield thereby missing out on the UCL Finals. Lionel Messi nonetheless would have reasons to smile as the thunderous strike won him the goal of the season. And also, getting one over his fierce rival- Ronaldo. The strike beat off other worthy competitions in the likes of Ronaldo’s strike against Man Utd amidst others. Continue reading https://sportsgee.com/messi-wins-ucl-goal-of-the-season-2018-2019/ |
