Let’s be honest. Many Nigerian Christians sing along to secular songs daily. From Afrobeats to hip hop, it is everywhere. But here is the question: is it right for a Christian to be vibing to songs that glorify money, sex, pride, or violence? Some people say music is just entertainment and has nothing to do with your faith. But is that true? If music has no spiritual effect, then why did David use Psalms to drive away evil spirits from Saul? Clearly, music carries power. Here are some hard questions to consider: 1. If a song promotes immorality, can you really claim it does not affect your spirit? 2. Why do many believers find it easier to memorize secular lyrics than Bible verses? 3. If Jesus sat beside you, would you still play those tracks on your playlist? Yes, not every secular song is dirty. But let’s face it. Most of the trending ones do not glorify God. They glorify self, lust, and greed. A Christian who keeps feeding on such lyrics should not be surprised if their spiritual fire goes cold. I broke down this issue with scriptures and practical tips in my full article here: https://www.psalm.com.ng/Nigerian-Christians-Listen-Secular-Music What’s your take? Are Christians free to enjoy secular music, or is it a trap that slowly drags them away from God?

In such moments, the book of Psalms gives us words of comfort and strength to hold on to. A few examples include: Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” This reassures us of God’s constant care. franchasng:Thank you so much, I really appreciate your encouragement. Those Psalms you mentioned are indeed powerful. Psalm 25 speaks of God’s guidance and deliverance. Psalm 126:1–6 reminds us of restoration and joy after hardship. Psalm 51 is a cry for mercy and cleansing. Psalm 69 shows God’s help in times of trouble. Psalm 35 is a strong prayer for victory over enemies. Each one carries a special kind of breakthrough for different situations. It is always a blessing to see how different Psalms connect with people’s personal experiences. |
Zaheertyler:You are very correct. Matthew 6:33 reminds us that when we put God first, every other blessing, including financial provision, follows naturally. At the same time, the Psalms also show us that God invites us to pray specific prayers for provision. For example, Psalm 23 and Psalm 112 speak directly about God supplying needs and blessing the work of our hands. So while our main focus should always be to seek God’s kingdom, praying with Psalms helps us align with His promises for provision. That balance of seeking God first and still boldly asking for His blessings is what I explained more fully on my blog post here: https://www.psalm.com.ng/Psalm-Can-Read-Money What do you think, can praying with Psalms strengthen our faith while keeping our focus on God? |
franchasng:Thank you for pointing that out. Psalm 25 is indeed a very powerful scripture for breakthrough because it speaks about God’s guidance, mercy, and deliverance from shame. I did not include it in the initial list so that the post would not become too long, but you are right that Psalm 25 is a strong prayer for anyone seeking breakthrough, especially verses like “Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.” I will definitely highlight it in an update, and I appreciate you bringing it up. Which verses of Psalm 25 have spoken to you the most in your own prayers? |
Many people wonder, is there a Psalm I can read when I am struggling financially or when I need God’s blessing on my work? The truth is, the book of Psalms is full of prayers that speak about God’s provision and prosperity. A few examples include: Psalm 23 – The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Psalm 112 – Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, wealth and riches are in his house. Psalm 115:14 – May the Lord increase you more and more, you and your children. Psalm 126 – Those who sow in tears shall reap with joy. Reading these Psalms with faith and prayer can open the door for divine provision and financial breakthrough. I wrote a guide on my blog that shares how to pray with these Psalms and practical prayer points for money and financial success. Parenting in Nigeria today comes with its own unique challenges. From peer influence, social media, and modern culture, it is easy for children to drift away from godly values if parents are not intentional. Raising godly children starts with building a foundation of faith at home. Some practical tips that can help include: Praying with and for your children daily so they learn the importance of seeking God early. Teaching them the Bible in simple ways so they see it as a guide for life, not just a Sunday activity. Being a role model because children often copy what parents do more than what they say. Setting boundaries with love to help them make wise choices while still feeling supported. Creating a culture of open conversations so they feel safe to talk about struggles and temptations. I shared a more detailed guide on my blog with additional steps Nigerian parents can take. Peer pressure is one of the biggest challenges Christians face today, especially in Nigeria where society sometimes measures success by material things. From friends pushing you into bad habits, to colleagues encouraging shortcuts, to social media making you feel left out, it is easy to lose focus. As Christians, we are called to be the light of the world, not to blend into darkness. Some steps that help include: Knowing your identity in Christ so you do not depend on others for approval. Choosing your friends wisely because bad company corrupts good character. Standing on God’s Word daily through prayer and Bible study. Finding a support system in fellowship or youth groups where faith is strengthened. I recently wrote a detailed post about this on my blog, sharing biblical principles and practical steps. You can read it here: https://www.psalm.com.ng/2025/09/Overcome-Peer-Pressure-Christian-Nigeria.html?m=1 How do you personally deal with peer pressure as a Christian in Nigeria? Your story might inspire someone who is struggling. |
Many Christians ask this important question when going through challenges: Which Psalm should I read for financial breakthrough, open doors, or success in life? The book of Psalms is filled with powerful prayers that have brought comfort and miracles to believers for centuries. For example: Psalm 23 reminds us that God is our provider. Psalm 91 is a prayer of protection and deliverance. Psalm 121 points us to God as our ultimate helper. Psalm 126 speaks about restoration and joy after hardship. Reading these Psalms with faith and prayer can open doors of breakthrough. I recently wrote a guide on this topic that goes deeper and shares prayer points you can use alongside these Psalms. You can read it here: https://www.psalm.com.ng/2025/09/What-Psalm-Can-Read-For-Breakthrough.html?m=1 What Psalms do you personally read when you need God to step in for breakthrough? Many people find it easy to act spiritual on Sunday but struggle to live out their faith from Monday to Friday. The workplace in Nigeria can be tough. There is pressure to cut corners, give bribes, gossip, or compromise values just to get ahead. Yet as Christians, we are called to reflect God not just in church but also at our jobs. Here are some practical ways to live a godly life at work in Nigeria: 1. Work with Integrity – Be honest in all you do. Don’t falsify figures or join in dishonest practices. 2. Do Your Job Well – Colossians 3:23 reminds us to work as unto the Lord. Strive for excellence, no matter your role. 3. Show Respect and Humility – Treat colleagues and superiors with dignity. Avoid gossip, pride, and unnecessary conflict. 4. Resist Corruption – Bribery and shortcuts may seem normal, but standing firm pleases God and builds your character. 5. Be Compassionate – Support coworkers when they’re struggling, and be willing to lend a helping hand. 6. Stay Spiritually Grounded – Pray before work, meditate on Scripture during breaks, and let God guide your actions. The truth is, living godly in a Nigerian workplace is not always easy. But it is possible. When you stand for God, He honors you in ways no man can. What do you think? How do you personally stay godly at work despite the challenges around you?
