Actually, it depends on the location.. the reason why it seems (or is) expensive in Europe or North America is because of the cold weather over there.. .
Banana thrives on the tropics and cold weather or frost kills banana plant or sometimes makes them inactive...
And cuisines that demands banana leaves, always want them fresh...
Now getting these fresh leaves is now a hurdle!!!
Coz since banana plant (note my use of "Plant", and not "Tree", FOR BANANA IS NOT A TREE) barely manages to grow in cold regions, the leaves are very important to the plant....
So those leaves are quite hard to see...
