The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), on Thursday said over 1.6 million forms had been purchased for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) scheduled for April. The Public Relations Officer of the Board, Mr Fabian Benjamin, said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Benjamin told NAN that of the figure, 90.000 candidates would be tested with the newly introduced Computer Based Test (CBT) and Dual Based Test (DBT). He said that already, the board had put in place strategies that would ensure a hitch free examination across the 3,000 centres nationwide. According to him, the sale of forms is expected to end on Friday March 15, while the website used for the sale will be closed on March 24. “We have concluded arrangements for the takeoff of the 2013 UTME examination which will commence on April 27, for candidates for the Pencil Paper Test (PPT). “We are currently trying to adjust the examination date for the Computer Based Test (CBT) and Dual Based Test (DBT) candidates because the date coincides with the 2013 May/June WAEC and NECO examination dates. “I cannot say precisely when it will take place for now until we are through with the adjustment so that it does not cause any clash for the candidates but as soon as this is achieved, we shall communicate to all those concerned,” he said. He said that the number of candidates that had so far applied for this year’s examination was higher than that of 2012 which, according to him, was put at 1.4 million nationwide. Benjamin told NAN that the board was looking forward to a hitch-free examination with an almost zero level of examination malpractice in view of the logistics that would be deployed. “We have written to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, applying for a deployment of their men for the examination. `We are looking forward to having at least two of these security officers in each of the centres nationwide, to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free examination,” Benjamin said. Controversial actress and singer, Cossy Orjiakor also known as Nutty Queen, has confirmed that her relationship with her ex-boyfriend broke down because he failed to buy her a Range Rover. Cossy was quoted as saying: ”It’s true but that was a long time ago. He just called me one day and said ‘Baby, I’m getting you a Range.’ Sometimes I wonder why some men make promises they know they won’t fulfil. Perhaps they want to show they belong when they know they don’t belong. It does not make sense. “I would have reasoned with him if he had come to say ‘Sweet heart, look I don’t have that kind of money to buy a Range. I was just joking about it. Please I am sorry,’ we would have continued the affair, but making it seem as if he was making issues out of it was being too childish. I did not sack him, rather he sacked himself” she said. Fashion is cyclical. Trends come and go, many of them to be resurrected in 20 years and then forgotten again until the next go-round. On the other hand, there are awful dead fashion outfits people wear that should never be seen again, but some have insisted on lingering well past their expiration dates. If you actually wear any of these outfits below or if you’ve stashed them in your closet, waiting for the moment they make a comeback, please, do yourself a favor and get rid of them immediately. A 12-year-old recently had quite the show-and-tell at school: According to the Detroit News, she brought a backpack stuffed with $20,000 in cash. Police, who declined to name the girl, said the student received it from a child who lives across the street from her in Taylor, outside of Detroit. Word got around at the local Sixth Grade Academy that the girl was handing out cash to her friends. That’s when the principal stepped in and called the police. “The school district called us and said a 12-year-old student had a backpack full of money,” Taylor Chief of Police Mary Sclabassi said. “The principal became aware of it when she heard the student was giving money away to friends. They brought in the student, secured the backpack and retrieved the money she had given away. This is a real first for me.” Commenters on the Detroit News website were also stunned by the news. Doran Hollow wrote, “That was my middle school and I never ran into anyone so generous.” Scott Gypsy opined, “She must have been a fan of Robin Hood.” Added Brent Link, “My other thought was casino winnings. But drugs was the first one to cross my mind. Who really keeps that kind of money under their mattress?” No word on what the neighbors were doing with that amount of cash around the house, but undoubtedly they will be glad to get it back. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/13/17297829-police-michigan-girl-12-brings-20000-to-school-starts-giving-it-away?lite

Marriage is often seen as fix-all – dreamy singles think it will make them happy, restless men and women think it will make them feel complete. We take apart the five most popular cons that mar marriage. I won’t be lonely Being lonely or having company has nothing to do with getting married. Many loners remain so even after marriage. A long-suffering woman shared her woes, she said that though she was married, she was always lonely. “I never felt that we shared anything. When I spoke, he heard but never listened. On holidays, I never felt that we were together.” Those who are lonely and feel that marriage will be a solution, need to analyse and identify what they are feeling. Anytime sex Sexual desire and frequency is dependent on libido, compatibility and the acceptance of the word ‘sex’ among both partners. Many partners, who have a deep-seated resentment for each other and are constantly bickering, are not having enough sex. Maybe one of them thought that marriage would satisfy their sexual desires, but that didn’t happen, and so, the blame-game continues in other spheres of life. I won’t work This is quite an unrealistic thought, as increasingly, more couples realise that marriage does not mean financial security. Especially women realise that the lifestyle and aspirations one has calls for both spouses to generate income. Financial security is rare if you are not taking care of it yourself; there is no escape route. And if you have not discussed this with your partner, he or she may feel resentful of being considered a meal ticket. Big happy family Most of us are conditioned to win over the love and affection of the in-laws. We bend over backwards, expect to be loved immediately and are baffled when the feeling is not reciprocated. The biological imperative of birthing gives rise to a lot of unconditional love and acceptance which is hormonally absent in in-laws. So it is advised to give respect, love and attention, but don’t expect much. Kids can fix it all Couples feel that unhappiness in a marriage will be sorted by parenthood. This is another misconception because if there is incompatibility, a child would actually come into an unwelcoming environment and may even be resented. Parenthood should be a well-thought out decision considering aspects such as – Are we ready? Do both of us want children? Do we have all the help we need? Do we agree on core values? Banky W is now out to find a replacement for Wizkid as the strained relationship between the two has finally snapped. Both had been trading words on social media as it concerns their crashed business relationship. A video producer close to Banky told R on Friday that the producer had made up his mind to find a young musician to replace Wizkid “just to teach the kid a lesson”. Devastated by Wizkid’s refusal to renew management contract with Banky’s EME outfit, the America-returnee has begun scouting for someone that would create a bigger effect on the music scene than Wizkid just to make a point in the industry. “He wants people to know that he can make and unmake”. As regards unmaking though, it remains to be seen if Banky can produce another Wizkid as the young chap has also formed his own record label, Star Boy, even before he parted ways with Banky. At a recent event in Lagos where it was expected that the two would put to rest tales of their sour relationship, Wizkid, who surprised a lot of people by making an appearance at the album launch of Banky as a special guest with a lady, shocked many when he refused to say anything at the album launch. He also didn’t talk to any of his former record label mates at EME. Read More:http:///entertainment/banky-looks-for-wizkid.html

The Ghana Police have commenced investigations into allegations that American music star Chris Brown smoked “weed” on stage during his performance at the Hope City concert at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 5. The act has received a lot of criticism from civil society organizations and the general public. Notable voices that have condemned the act include Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Rashid Pelpuo and Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Charles Palmer-Buckle. Organizers of the concert, Charter House, categorically denied media reports that American music star smoked weed during his performance at the event. According to the events outfit, Chris Brown smoked a cigar, not marijuana. A statement released by the police Monday and signed by DSP Cephas Arthur, Director of Public Affairs said the investigation has been necessitated by a complaint filed by Mr. Jonathan Osei-Wusu, CEO of POS Foundation. The statement said, “The Police have commenced investigation into the formal complaint of Indian hemp smoking made by the CEO of POS Foundation, Mr. Jonathan Osei-Wusu on 6th March 2013 at the Ministries Police station against the popular American RnB artist Chris Brown.” Read full story here: http:///entertainment/police-commence-investigation-into-chri.html

Once they were a happy family. Everybody, co-tenants, neighbours on the street, and even their landlord attested to the fact that they were a good couple. And indeed after 11 solid years of matrimony, nobody will doubt that. But the bliss enjoyed by this seemingly vintage family was torn to shred in one moment of anger, when the husband was alleged to have thrown his wife from the balcony of the last floor of their two-storey building. The woman suffered a fractured skull and died one week later in a hospital in Asaba, the Delta State capital. Now the man is being accused of murder and his family is disarray as he has been arrested by the police. Neighbours of the Okohs are still wondering how a seemingly common argument suddenly turned tragic. The suspect, Okoh Patrick, 47, who is a school teacher, had an argument with his wife, Maria, over the use of available fuel siphoned from her car to fuel their generator to watch the Nigeria-Burkina Faso final duel during the just concluded Africa Cup of Nation in South Africa. The argument became hot and heated and tempers flared. In the ensued tantrum, it was alleged that Patrick angrily pushed his wife over the balcony. The woman, who was on the fat side, fell on the railing and the already rusty rail gave in under her weight and she went crashing from the top floor to the ground. Consequently, her skull was fractured by the deadly impact of hitting the hard ground. When Sunday Express visited the compound where the incident happened at 29, DLA Road, Asaba, neighbours expressed shocked at the death of the 42-year-old receptionist. Speaking to SE, the landlord of the compound, Pa Arinze Cosmos, revealed that the couple was the best couple that has lived in his compound since he became a landlord. Kimmy Blanco, popularly known as Lil Kim has filed a $1 million lawsuit against her former lawyer Sunny Barkats, accusing Barkats of making her sign a bad licensing agreement. The Junior M.A.F.I.A. femcee says Barkats and his business partner had somehow commandeered a 44% stake in licensing her name for brands. Kimmy Blanco became aware of the sketchy business in December 2012. But Barkat is calling the whole lawsuit a “frivolous” attempt to back out of a contract. The public still awaits for a new Lil Kim LP. She hasn’t released a legit studio album since 2005′s The unclad Truth. Her latest mixtape was Black Friday, which dropped in 2011. We all are always looking for ways to save money, but we sometimes ignore the fact that we’re actively wasting money every day. Here are 5 ways you might be letting money slip through your fingers. 1. The Food In Your Kitchen Goes Bad It’s hard to judge exactly how much food you’ll eat in the next week or month, but when food spoils, that’s money down the drain. Planning your meals ahead of time helps a ton, as does knowing how long different foods stay fresh on the counter, in the fridge, and in the freezer. But, in the end, all it takes is a little attention. 2. You Pay Too Much for Smartphone Data Most people sign up for a data plan and use their phone without really digging into how much data they use. If you’re still holding onto an unlimited plan, for example, it’s worth looking up how much data you actually use in a month—you might actually save money by moving to a metered plan (after all, 65% of people don’t even use 300MB of data per month). I subscribe to comonth for Blackberry on glo, and I can’t remember ever using up to 50% of the monthly data. That was when I realized how much I wasted on the ‘so-called’ unlimited subscription I was on using Airtel. If you haven’t checked your data usage in awhile, give it a look. You might be surprised. Of course, if you do have a limited plan, make sure your phone isn’t secretly wasting data in the background, too. 3. You Don’t Negotiate Negotiating can be tiring and time-wasting, but with the right preparation, you can make the whole process a lot easier—and get a lot more for your money. In fact, researchers in the U.S. found that the average new hire loses out on $500,000 in the long run, just by not negotiating their salary on that first job. There are a number of negotiation methods that work well in different situations (the Briefcase Technique being a pretty good one for salaries), so check out Lifehacker’s guide to getting anything you want with minimal negotiation. In a typical Nigerian market, the price you’re told is usually double what the good is worth, especially if you’re buying from an Ibo or Yoruba trader. But when you master the techniques of negotiating, you might be surprised how much you let go down the drain before you put in a little effort. 4. You Fall For Tech Myths It’s amazing how much tech companies try to squeeze out of you when you go to buy a new computer. “Oh, don’t buy that one, it’s six months old…buy this new one!” “O, you should get an extended warranty for an extra $200.” “Here, this $40 HDMI cable should suit your needs.” These sales tactics lead to quite a few myths, like the fact that new products are somehow better than refurbished products, or that expensive cables will get you a better picture on your TV. If you buy a lot of technology—and if you’re anything like us, you can save quite a bundle by knowing your stuff before you go into the store. 5. You Try Too Hard to Save Money Wait, what? That’s right: Sometimes, trying to save money can actually lead you into a pit that wastes money. For example, some people avoid regular checkups with the doctor or dentist, but then end up having to go in and pay much more for all the things they neglected. As a way to save money, you buy only the things you need in bits, but you end up using a carton at the end of the month; you could have saved money if you bought a whole carton in the first place-each would cost less than how much retailers sold the product to you each time you bought it. That’s not to say saving money is a bad thing—it’s just important to pay attention to where all of your money is going, and that you aren’t shooting yourself in the foot with a strategy you’re using to “save” cash. 6,You Ignore Wear and Tear on Your Home Top 10 Ways You Can Waste Money Without Realizing It,When you own a home, it seems like the repairs and improvements never stop...but you might have missed out on a few important ones. If you've still got drafts of air flowing through your house, you're probably wasting a lot of money on heating and cooling costs, and might even have some water damage from leaks around the foundation. http:///life-and-styles/5-ways-you-can-waste-money-without-real.html
