Firstly, the definition of poverty is relative. What Nigerians see as poverty is not what a Briton sees as poverty. According to World Bank, the ability to live above 2 dollars per day. Unfortunately, a typical Nigerian is living below the poverty line.

Secondly, the patriarchal system in Nigeria is a stumbling block. Other people don't see it as a big deal to get a poor guy.

Most men in advanced society can afford basic needs like food and clothing. I know of a system where basic needs like food are not a problem but the ability to live a fulfilled life.

The stats speak for themselves. In most advanced societies women don't necessarily need your money. All they need is true love and commitment.

I don't have concrete data, but I know there is someone who pays her husband.

If we keep seeing marriage as a means to an end, it will defeat its purpose. Marriage is more than being rich and poor. It's about partnership and companionship.
