The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed over N1.17 billion in institutional fees as part of the federal government’s student loan scheme.

Akintunde Sawyerr, the NELFUND managing director, said on Wednesday that N1,172,388,340 was disbursed to cover 20,000 beneficiaries of the scheme.

He said NELFUND selected some schools and paid the “institutional fees” of the loan beneficiaries based on active academic calendars.
According to him, the fund is working on reviewing another 100 institutions whose application had been received.

“I am delighted to share that, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, NELFUND has been able to disburse students’ institutional fees amounting to N1,172,388,340.00 for 20,000 students (100 per cent paid) in the institutions across the country.

“These institutions were carefully selected based on their academic calendar.

“Disbursement to other institutions will be made at the beginning of their sessions, to ensure a transparent and equitable distribution of resources,’’ he said.

Sawyerr said an additional disbursement of N850 million would leave NELFUND to various institutions due to receive the loans.

He also disclosed that a total of 260,000 students had been approved for payment of upkeep loans and their institutions’ charges

He said that the upkeep loan and institution charges for each student is N250,000 per annum. However, a student could apply less than the approved amount.

According to him, not every student that takes the institution loan wanted the upkeep loan, which would be paid in tranches base on students’ need.

When asked if the loans could be given to Post Graduate students, Sawyerr said the mandate of the fund focuses on undergraduate students with the least opportunities.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has officially released results, of its just concluded computer-based tests.
This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, which was made available to the journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan.

In the statement Dr. Adeniran said the Board has set minimum cut-off marks for qualification to the next stage in the recruitment exercise.

Dr. Adeniran said the cut-off mark in the exercise, is 50%.

The cut off mark, according to him will set the tone for the recruitment process. He further advised all candidates to log into their portal, as their results have been posted there already.

The Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has fixed Monday, 29 July – Friday, 2 August, 2024, for the computer-based tests (CBT) for applicants in the ongoing recruitment exercise for teaching and non-teaching staff of State-owned secondary schools.

A total of 62,000 applicants (50,000 for teaching and 12,000 for non-teaching) are expected to take part in the computer-based tests for the available positions.

The venue for the exam is University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based Testing Centre, Ajibode, Ibadan.

All applicants are to print copies of their CBT examination schedule and their application print-out, bearing their passports, from the job portal. Specific dates and times for individual applicants can be accessed by applicants through the job portal.

Successful candidates from the computer-based tests will be required to appear for oral interviews on a date yet to be announced.
