One year and counting since governor Rochas Okorocha demolished Owerri main Market with the aid of the Military, police and Ohaji Militants. Which leads to lost of life and properties on the side of the traders after the governor's infamous 24 hours quit notice without providing alternative market.
They traders since, many have died due to heartbreak resulting from non compensation of their losses. Some have relocated to their village since the can't cope with the rents and other city expenses. Others have shun business since is not gainful anymore in Imo state and venture into hire purchase taxi drivers. They remaining have manage to rent shops in the street and some smaller markets.
But since Okorocha's son in-law governorship ambition has hit the rock. Okorocha have now given Imo traders quit notice to leave the streets, other smaller markets and move in to the Imo International Modern Market which is still under construction.
To be honest, the Imo Modern Market is a welcome development but with wrong approach and motive because
* The governor didn't carry the real market people along as regards to the project.
* The developers are governor's family and political appointees.
* The developers are now selling the shops to the real traders at an exorbitant price (2.5 - 3 Million naira per shop)
The state of the Imo Modern market one year and counting since the existing one was demolished by Governor Okorocha. The major drainage in the market that channel erosion to the otamiri river which stretch few kilometers was left since 3 years ago and now it is causing landslide. This man made catastrophe have cause people homes along the line to collapse and threatening some of the modern market buildings.
The market environment is filled with life threatening hazards without caution or restriction signs.
The market premises is not properly guarded, fenced or protected.
There is no tarred road to the market and no electricity.
Please, pray for Imo state traders at this Trying time cause this is wickedness on the side of the governor lead by Okorocha.
The governor should make the Imo Modern market environment conducive for doing business, I know my Imo traders, the will follow suit. Who no like better thing? Than trying to force Imo Traders to that unprotected, unconducive and death trap.
(If he does not know what is conducive environment, he should visit his wife's estate at Akachi road, Owerri)
