Christians may face trials and suffer simply because we live in a world full of sin. But Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you]” (John 16:33 ). What a promise! Understanding the reason for our suffering and having the assurance of the final glory we'll share should make it a little easier to enjoy our lives...even during the times of sharing in suffering. And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory ( Romans 8:17 ). evansjeff, God is not punishing you |

Nice topic. I will present my answer in the form of valid arguments: The Argument From Design When we look at anything which has a design, we rightly conclude that it had a designer. Somebody designed chairs for a purpose. Somebody designed a glove to fit over a hand. The universe, and particularly human beings, show an unbelievable amount of design. This points to a Designer. The Argument From Anthropology Humans have a complex personality. It seems (and is) absurd that such complexity could have emerged from nothing, with no cause. Rather, the human personality would need to be made by a Being with the same, if not greater, complex personality. The Argument From Cause-Effect Everything we can think of, and which we encounter, has been caused by something. Every effect has a cause. In something as complex and awesome as the universe, there is no difference. The Big Bang Theory does not destroy this argument, for no-one can explain the cause of the Big Bang. The Argument From Ontology If there is a concept of something, this implies that the something does exist. For example, there is the popular concept of 'true love'. Although this concept might often seem elusive, the fact that we have the concept of true love in our heads, points to the real probability of the existence of true love. The Argument From Morality The sense of morals which most people have 'built-in', points to the existence of a moral Maker. More than this, the other option of evolution, has no way of explaining how morals came from pond-slime, and ultimately, from nothing. These arguments does serve as possibly 'prove' that God exists. They also provide enough of a starting point to accept that there is a Higher Being of some kind |
I don't want to sound unchivalrous but whenever MOST women say that they can do without the men, I always feel that they want to compensate for that "guilty feeling in their mind" arising from thier overall dependency. |
One of the most important elements in a courtship relationship is the emphasis on discerning marriage. One way a courtship differs from dating is that the couple has chosen to use this time together to discern whether or not marriage is their calling. It is not just a series of dates without direction. Some couples will have a fairly good idea early on in their relationship if they are called to marriage. A courtship should still give them time to allow them to grow in a Christ-centered relationship. Time spent wisely in a courtship can greatly bless the marriage that springs forth from it. For some couples, it can take a long time to be certain that marriage is for them. There may be obstacles to overcome – distance, career-challenges, family matters, etc. What is important in both short and long-term courtships is that a couple needs to commit themselves to purity in their relationship if they are to live out chastity. They need to set realistic guidelines to help them stay on track. They need to keep in touch with at least one mentoring couple who will challenge them, guide them and be there to support them through the difficulties. Courtship is a time to grow in a relationship. A couple gets to see each other in a variety of settings: family, work, leisure, church, service. This helps them to identify potential problems in their relationship and address these before entering marriage. It also helps them to mature as individuals through practicing self-discipline and right judgment. A long-term courtship can be more difficult, because the couple, once having determined they are called to marriage, may grow frustrated with the wait. Sometimes life calls us to be patient and wait for a long time for the things we desire most. Though this can present challenges, it doesn’t make it wrong. We need to always trust that God has a perfect plan for our lives and that He will give us His best if we allow Him to, in His time. A quick courtship can have its pitfalls as well. Just because a couple knows early on that they want to get married does not mean that they should skip the courtship stage all together. The danger here is that their decision to marry might be based more on emotions than on prayerful discernment. There are valuable lessons to be learned along the path for a courting couple. A hasty courtship that does not allow proper time to discern has the potential of leading into difficulties in marriage . . . but not necessarily. A courtship should be an exciting and fun stage in life. It should be a time of growth both personally and as a couple. It should be a time of coming closer to God and to each other. But don’t keep the courtship going on indefinitely just for the sake of the courtship itself. If the relationship really does not seem to be going toward marriage, be honest, step back and call it off. This allows both persons to move on in their vocations with less baggage. A properly done courtship should allow a couple to break up if they so discern without regrets. If the couple has reserved their physical affection they will find it easier to go separate ways if that is God’s will. Don’t rush it . . . but don’t drag it out unnecessarily! The key in all of this is prayerful discernment. |
moyakz, the pleasure is mine. Happy new week. |
It is written (2 Cor.6:14): "What concord hath light with darkness? [*Vulg.: 'What fellowship hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial?']" Now there is the greatest concord between husband and wife. Therefore one who is in the light of faith should not marry one who is in the darkness of unbelief. Further, it is written (Malachi 2:11): "Juda hath profaned the holiness of the Lord, which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god." But such had not been the case if they could have married validly. Therefore disparity of worship is an impediment to marriage. I answer that, The chief good of marriage is the offspring to be brought up to the worship of God. Now since education is the work of father and mother in common, each of them intends to bring up the child to the worship of God according to their own faith. Consequently if they be of different faith, the intention of the one will be contrary to the intention of the other, and therefore there cannot be a fitting marriage between them. For this reason disparity of faith previous to marriage is an impediment to the marriage contract. Someone may ask, what of a believer who was already married to an unbeliever before becoming a Christian? There is provision for a believer who is already married to an unbeliever. The Bible specifically addresses those who are married to unbelievers in 1 Corinthians 7:12-14 : “…If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband…” Christians married to unbelievers will need to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to enable them to profess Christ and live in the light of God's presence ( 1 John 1:7 ). They should seek God's transforming power to change their hearts and produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23 ). A Christian wife is obligated to have a submissive heart, even toward her unbelieving husband (1 Peter 3:1 ), and she will need to remain close to God and rely on His grace to enable her to do so. |

onetrack:I know of examples of some sort which do meet requirements as “proof” outside the Bible (and outside of the writings of believers) that Jesus did perform miracles. In these cases, the writers provides for us evidence that Jesus worked miracles, but in writing intended to downplay belief in such miracles. The first comes from the Babylonian Talmud 43a. Babylonian Talmud (late first or second century AD) Babylonian Sanhedrin43a-b “On the eve of the Passover they hanged Yeshu and the herald went before him for forty days saying [Yeshu] is going forth to be stoned in that he hate practiced sorcery and beguiled and led astray Israel Here Jesus is accused of sorcery, in obvious parallel with the charge leveled in Matthew 12:22-23. The writer of the Talmud does not agree that Jesus worked bona fide miracles, but he reports that he did things which, to the enemy of Jesus could only be written off as sorcery. Also, in Babylonian Sanhedrin107b it is claimed that Jesus practiced magic. In tHul2:22-23 it is reported that healings were done in the name of Jesus. So we have indirect confirmation of the crucifixion of Jesus and of his working of public miracles-only wrongly charging that the miracles were worked by Satan, not God. The point I would make from this material in the Jewish Talmud from the late first century is that it proves that Jesus was a person they felt they had to deal with and that it was sufficiently common knowledge that he worked signs and wonders that they felt they had to address this by falsely claiming that Jesus did his miracles by the power of Satan (sorcery). Doesn't this “prove” that Jesus worked miracles? What it also proves is that many in his day were convinced that he worked miracles and that his enemies were aware of sufficient positive evidence of this that they felt they needed to explain it. |

There is a great logical fallacy among Bible skeptics, atheists and those who like to challenge Christianity that says when discussing the historical aspects of the Bible “you can’t use the Bible as proof that Jesus existed. You must use non-Bible sources!!” To which I say, “why not?” The four Gospels of the Bible are bibliographical accounts of the life of Jesus. The normal objective measure of the reliability of historical document is: 1) The number of available copies of ancient manuscripts and 2) the time span between the original version and the date of those copies still in existence today. When examined under this standard, the Bible proves to provide a treasure trove of proof and evidence that Jesus really existed. Some of the earliest manuscript fragments of the New Testament are the John Rylands Fragment, Chester Beatty Papyrus and the Bodmer Papyrus which were written between 50-100AD. Copies of these papyri were reproduced in 125-200AD, meaning that the time span between the originals and the copies still in existence today is 29 years to 130 years, putting all these manuscripts beings written anywhere from 50-100 years after the death of Jesus Christ. Now some may object and say “Hold on! These manuscripts were written years after Jesus died. There’s no way they could be reliable!” But any expert on ancient documents would disagree. Let’s look at some of the more famous and universally accepted historical documents and see how they match up with the Bible: Plato — Plato wrote his works from 427-347 BC. The earliest manuscript copy of Plato’s writing in existence today was written in 900 AD. That is 1,200 years after Plato’s death! And there are only 2 copies of these manuscripts in existence. Julius Caesar — One of the most celebrated and trusted historical figures. Caesar lived from 100-44 BC and the earliest manuscript copy of his writings dates back to 900 AD, putting our best evidence of Caesar ever existing 1,000 years after his death. And there are 10 copies of ancient manuscripts of Caesar’s Gallic Wars . So if you question the Bible based on when it was written, being “translated so many times” (it was not – we still have the same Greek manuscripts today) and still question whether Jesus existed, then you must also be really sure that Julius Caesar and Plato were completely fictional characters and never really existed. Homer — Homer, who historians are not even sure ever really existed even today, is credited with writing the Iliad in ca 900 BC. The earliest manuscript copy of the Iliad dates to 400 BC. Meaning the only proof of Homer or the Iliad being accurate is from 500 years after the death of Homer. Additionally there are 643 copies of ancient manuscripts of the Iliad written over the centuries that when compared against each other by experts have a 95.3 consistency and accuracy, making it one of the most reliable and proven documents of antiquity. That is of course, until you compare it to the New Testament. The New Testament manuscripts date to less than 100 years after the death of Christ. Additionally there are over 5,600 ancient manuscript copies of the New Testament giving it more copies to a degree that dwarfs any other figure of ancient history. And they have a 99% accuracy when compared to each other. The evidence is not even comparable. And it all points to Jesus Christ. The record of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has more evidence and proof than any other person from antiquity. CONCLUSION The most amazing conclusion in all of this is not only that Jesus really existed — it is that He still exists. And He sits in Heaven at the right hand of God offering forgiveness to those who will not just believe He was a regular man, but that He as the Son of God, gave His life on that same cross that so many historians knew about, to take the punishment for sins that all of humanity has committed. It just takes faith and trust in that sacrifice to receive him. Jesus said: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. – Revelation 3:20-21. Jesus wants us to believe in Him so we can be freely forgiven of the sins we have committed in our lives, have eternal life and reign with Him. So now that it is established that He existed, why not take the time to get to know Jesus Christ and who He said He is from His historically-verifiable perspective? Your eternal life may depend on it. |

Some people worship deities that give them Odeshi. Let me give a brief background information of what Odeshi means. The word Odeshi is simply a compression of this Igbo sentence, "O dighi eshi" which literally means, "It is not leaking". Odeshi was popularised during the reign of the dreaded Bakassi Boys in the dark ages of the Mbadinuju Administration when they were introduced as the vigilante group in Anambra State. Their bodies were impenetrable for bullets, machetes etc. They had earlier performed the miracle of effectively checking the daredevil armed robbers that terrorized the neighbouring Abia State then under the leadership of the youthful and popular Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu. Odeshi is obviously a supernatural ability. If deities do not exist, how were those boys able to accomplish this feat? Please an atheist should refute this with meaningful argument. These deities will definitely give their worshipers other supernatural powers. If these deities exist, and their follower attacks you(with supernatural powers) , who will you run to? Dear nairalanders, the fact is that there are actually evil men with more supernatural powers than the bakassi boys. What if they attack an Atheist, where will an Atheist run to? Please an Atheist should respond. |
The history of human evolution shows a definitive link between our physical health and psychological well-being. The Greeks understood the importance of a Sound Mind in a Sound Body. That credo became the foundation of their civilization. 8 HABITS FOR A HEALTHY MIND IN A HEALTHY BODY 1. Daily Physicality: Exercise for at least 20 minutes most days of the week. 2. Intellectual Curiosity: Spend some time in focused thought, exploring new ideas every day. 3. Foster Creativity: Challenge your mind to connect unrelated ideas in new and useful ways. 4. Human Unity : Create and maintain close-knit human bonds and a social support network. 5. Spiritual Connectedness : Identify a Source of inspiration that is bigger than you. 6. Energy Balance: Balance Calories in/Calories out, and reduce your carbon footprint. 7. Voluntary Simplicity: Embrace the liberty that comes with wanting and needing less. Simple living, is a way of life that rejects the high-consumption, materialistic lifestyles of consumer cultures. The affirmation of simplicity arises from the recognition that very little is needed to live well, that abundance is a state of mind, not a quantity of consumer products or attainable through them. 8. Adequate Sleep. |

Interesting topic. Let me call people. Visitor700 Rilwayne001 what can you say about this? |
deeplow:you seem not to understand me. I ended the post by saying that you should obey God. Now I add that you should Accept Jesus Christ and believe him. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" Acts. 4:12 If you read Col. 1:20 "And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, if I say, whether there be things in earth, or things in heaven" |
deeplow:God is never in a tight corner with regards to saving people. God said he will have mercy on whom he will he will have mercy(exodus.33:19). He always has a way of escape for those who diligently seek him(heb. 11:6). Jesus Christ had not yet come in the days of Abraham but Abraham and others like Enoch are saved. The Bible even let's use know that Angel Micheal and other angels loyal to God overcame Satan by the words of their testimonies and by the blood of the lamb.(Rev. 12:11)notice the war Micheal fought in revelation was before the finished work on calvary. Jesus Christ confirmed the outcome of that battle(Luke. 10:18). Quit thinking how God will do things in time to come and Obey him |
