Fortune has smiled on Blackface as he has signed a N52 million deal with Franchise Events Limited just few days after his celebrated war with his former band mate and friend, Tuface Idibia. The deal which also includes a car and a house sees Blackface become the record label’s biggest name. The former Plantazhun Boyz co-founder can now rest and let his bosom friend Tuface rest after the brouhaha about not being paid royalty for the ‘African Queen’ he claimed he wrote. The song gave Tuface the perfect platform for his meteoric rise in the music industry and Blackface has not forgiven Tuface, letting the whole world know he has been wronged by 2Baba. Added to that was the issue of Tuface’s wedding in Dubai where Blackface said he was not invited. But last week, Tuface said in an interview that he had invited his former stable mate but he refused to come. Trust Blackface, he responded immediately, saying he was not invited. He also used the opportunity to tell Tuface to pay him the royalty. According to Franchise Events Limited spokesperson said they decided to settle for Blackface because of his versatility, staying power in the music industry and his brand of music. http://www.akpraise.com/2013/09/blackface-signs-n52million-deal/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

-The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, said in Abuja on Wednesday that she had committed the ongoing crisis in Rivers to prayer and that crisis started as far back as four years ago. Rivers has been embroiled in a political crisis which culminated in a free for all at the House of Assembly last week, with some members injured. *Patience Jonathan Jonathan said this during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa by 16 bishops from the South-South geo-political zone. “Rivers state issue is one thing I’ve committed to prayer because I believe there is nothing God cannot do. God restored me and I’ll do His work without the fear of man. “The truth will always remain the truth and what God ordains must come to pass and so Rivers issue is something we’ve handed over to God.’’ The president’s wife said contrary to some reports, she had always mediated between Gov. Chibuike Amaechi and other parties in a crisis that began four years ago. “This matter started as far back as four years ago at Anyugubiri in Okrika when I begged him not to demolish a part of Okrika but (that he should) dialogue first with the people. “After that incident, he called the chairman of Okrika (local government) and sacked him for holding a reception in our honour; that boy was the first victim. “He also put my people on curfew for nine months. I called him and pleaded with him but he refused. Then I began to hear all sort of propaganda in the media against me; this is not the way. “I’ve never spoken about this issue but as men of God, I believe you’ll say the truth always because there are a lot of conflicting interests; some will hear one thing and say the exact opposite. “I also want you to know the genesis of this problem and pray that God touches Amaechi’s heart as per his hot temper because when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.’’ Jonathan urged the parties involved in the crisis to help to resolve issues plaguing the state and not “whip up sentiments that will aggravate the problem. “I appeal to Amaechi to sheathe his sword so that we can defend our state and this country with love, unity, patriotism and truth at all time. “Hebrews 12:14 urges us to embrace peace with all men without which, we cannot see God. “Amaechi is my son, I cannot fight him and I cannot kill him. He shouldn’t be used by outsiders against his own blood because this seat is vanity. “One day, no matter how long it takes, we will leave this seat. Power is not forever. This seat is vanity, others sat here and left so one day I’ll also leave and we will meet at home; so why should I fight him? “Let’s take it easy, face issues, leave non-existent matters, stop magnifying lies and respect our leaders and people in authority. Let’s give peace a chance,’’ she said. Earlier, Bishop God-Do-Well Awomapara, Chairman, Niger Delta Bishops Forum, who led the delegation, said the visit was significant “in view of emerging situations in our region. “We are on a quest to unravel the mysteries surrounding the Rivers issue and mediate where necessary.’’ (NAN) http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/07/rivers-crisis-started-as-far-back-as-four-years-ago-says-first-lady/ |

The JTF confirmed the casualty figure. At least 55 people were killed as members of the extremist Boko Haram sect attacked a prison, a police base, and other buildings in Bama Town of Borno State. The attack, which occurred in the morning also saw the release of scores of prisoners by the insurgents, witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES. The spokesperson for the Joint Task Force in Borno, Sagir Musa, told Reuters that the insurgents killed 22 police officers, 14 prison officials, two soldiers and four civilians. He said 13 of the Boko Haram members were also killed. Tuesday’s attack is coming less than two weeks after seven security personnel were killed and about 300 houses burnt when Boko Haram members engaged security officials in a shootout in Bama. The commanding military officer in charge of Bama Barracks, A.G Laka, had told visiting Borno State Governor that 10 members of the insurgent group were killed in the April 25 attack. Rumours had spread in Bama that members of the sect threatened to avenge the killing of their members. A top security official who didn’t want his name mentioned told PREMIUM TIMES that scores of inmates were freed when the gunmen attacked Bama prisons and took over the town at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Musa, a Lieutenant Colonel, later told Reuters that 105 inmates were freed. The official, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES said aside from the attack on the prison, “We are aware that a mobile police base there (Bama) was attacked, a school was also attacked, and the palace of the top monarch there was attempted.” Fleeing residents said a large number of Boko Haram gunmen took to the streets at about the time residents were waking up for the day. “It was a terrible sight, seeing a large number of gunmen mostly youth carrying, shooting and chanting Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,” said a local administration staff, Usman Ajari, who made it to Maiduguri. “We didn’t wait to see what was happening because the shooting was much and the gunmen moving towards the Shehu’s (the traditional ruler’s) palace.” Hundreds of people have been killed in Borno in several attacks by the Boko Haram on security officials, public buildings, churches, opposition Islamic clerics, and others since 2009. About 200 civilians were feared killed less than a month ago in Baga Town during a clash between soldiers and insurgents. The actual casualty figure is now a source of multiple investigations. http:///f4kZbtbE8w |

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israeli troops fired warning shots into Syria on Sunday, the Israeli military said in a statement, in what public radio said was the first Israeli fire directed at the Syrian military since the 1973 war. “A short while ago, a mortar shell hit an IDF post in the Golan Heights adjacent to the Israel-Syria border, as part of the internal conflict inside Syria. In response, IDF soldiers fired warning shots towards Syrian areas,” the army said in a statement. Syrian warplanes pounded an eastern town on the border with Iraq on Sunday as firefights raged around an army barracks in the northeastern town of Ras al-Ain near Turkey, a watchdog said. Troops also launched a pre-dawn bombardment of rebel lines near Damascus, after 121 people were reported killed nationwide on Saturday. Northeast of the capital, clashes erupted around Irbin as the army shelled the rebel stronghold and nearby Mesraba, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. In eastern Syria, the watchdog said, two civilians were killed in air raids on the town of Albu Kamal on the Iraqi border while Deir Ezzor city in the same province also came under tank fire. Near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, troops were seen headed towards Bir Ajam in the demilitarised zone, several days after Israel complained to the United Nations about the presence of Syrian tanks in the village. The Local Coordination Committees, a network of opposition activists on the ground, reported regime artillery and tank fire on Bir Ajam and the nearby village of Bariqeh. Israel issued a terse warning on Friday after three mortar rounds struck the Golan the day before, the latest in a string of “spillover” incidents into the Israeli side of the ceasefire line. In the northwest province of Idlib on Sunday, the Observatory reported shelling on the strategic town of Maaret al-Numan, nearby Maarshmisha village and Idlib city. The army earlier retook a stretch of the Damascus-Aleppo highway in Idlib used for transporting reinforcements, but has failed to retake Maaret al-Numan. The Observatory, which relies on a network of activists, lawyers and medics in civilian and military hospitals, also reported fresh clashes on Sunday near Ras al-Ain on the Turkish border in Hasakeh province. A military source in the area said rebels had been closing in on the army barracks in Asfar Nakjar village, east of Ras al-Ain, for the past 48 hours. “We are well armed and the rebels haven’t been able to break through. Our reinforcements are on the way,” the source told AFP on condition of anonymity. Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman confirmed that rebels had surrounded the large barracks, which the army was using to bombard Ras al-Ain. The mainly Kurdish province has seen heavy fighting in the past few days, with 46 combatants killed when the opposition seized Ras al-Ain on Friday. The Observatory on Saturday reported that Kurdish residents backed by militia from the Democratic Union Party (PYD) had taken control of three towns near the border with Turkey after convincing pro-government forces to leave. The PYD has links with Turkey’s rebel Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The watchdog said residents feared a repeat of the violence that saw 9,000 Syrians flee to Turkey in 24 hours. |
