Mr A chose electrical engineering and scored 62 but didn't meet the cut-off for electrical. His second choice is mathematics. And the cut-off for Mathematics is 61..

Mr B chose mathematics as first choice..Fortunately Mr B scored 61.

Now,if you were Uniben. Who will you admit to study mathematics between Mr A and B? I wouldn't mind if you give a reason too.
from A crystal logical angle, Mr B will get the slot.
My point is, What is the principal relevance of "a second choice course" . to what end?

Second choice counts. I think it counts when the jamb admission quota for that particular department(your 2nd choice) is not met. So you can be given the course. Most times it doesn't count because you can be given a course that's neither your first nor second choice since the admission quota of your first and second choices has been filled.
hmm.. in other words, There Is a maximum number of students each department can capacitate. right? is this made known to those aspirants?

shey na only those pple wey still choose 2nd choice courses of study during post utme registration na uniben go transfer go another department if probably dey no make their 1st choice courses or both the ones wey no feel another course for their second choice course??
I have always thought on this Line. Why don't Uniben give Aspirants their second choice courses if they couldn't meet the criteria of either Cut-off or Catchment placement to obtian their first choice course or courses ? they just fling them to any course! not too healthy.

I believe A second choice course will be more appreciated by an aspirant if the first choice is not given.

I don't think so. I believe there's always this constant space allocated to catchment no matter the performance.

Supposing the 180 people that scored above 74 happen to come from non-catchment areas, you think uniben will admit them all? Hell no!

The aim of catchment in the first place was/is to make sure the region(where the school is) does not lag behind, educationally...

The complexity of some women will make studying them or getting along with them a tall task. today, they don't feel like partying, tomorrow, they are in the mood to party all night long. some Men on the other hand are too busy with money-making goals and life causes to be that complex. they've got no time for The namby-pamby, Coy and Eccentric Brouhaha of the average woman.

lol, especially those prepping for clinicals, they jack TDB .
You knw smetn, in some skuls, it is a faculty on its own. Eg Madonna.
I even heard that in IMSU, optometry students are treated like medics.
I dont know why UNIBEN wont follow suit sef.
Not even Just Optometry. Most courses are not well regarded or revered in Uniben. Aside Medicine and other courses in medical science, Law, Pharmacy, Accounting and other top courses in that league. during practicals, Students of those courses are given preferential treatments . I think Optometry merits a faculty.

I WILL WAIT BY THE SHORE
I will wait by the shore
By this bank where lilies shimmer
And the yellow sands fray
Amidst yawning gales by the ancient dune . amidst gossipy whistles from the gloomy Coven
On the Flanks of The unicorn I am woven
Where no Blabbatrice gag the Carroty sun sun. i will wait, Like A shy bride bejewelled from crown
To sole
In hasty wait for A beckoning groom
With Her bowlful hips of dancing beads
I will wait, Amidst crooning dusk sweeping the
sun's fading shine
I will keep smiling like poppy wine
unriddled by tempestuous tidal clamour.
In dribs and drabs trials may come like a tremor
Staking the scythe Of mandate to Sorrow's dregs
I wait ! on the happy milky shore
where jelly skins drink the Sun's smiles
In Glistening hues Like sparkling Diamonds
I wait, For Lofty Promises on the beckon.
I WAIT!

LOL,i read this twice.really insightful. I think one problem optometry is facing nigeria is publicity.very few people know what optometry is. A large percentage of the populace would still visit a 'DOCTOR' when they've got eye issues.they are oblivious of tha fact that there are specialists.Optometry has got potentials and is fast gaining ground as evidenced in the US where it is now the 12th most lucrative job.this is the US am talking about(where even drug pushing myt be considered as a jobgrin).i think in a couple more years, optometry will be up there
True. the course needs time

Fabzgrace:

yea, its very true that dentistry is more revered than optometry.
And you know, optometry is not yet well known in nigeria.
To a layman, its all about cutting glasses.
And even in uniben, its hardly regarded as an important department.
Now,i dont want to wash its dirty linen in public so i wont say more (lol).
I once asked why it wasnt in the college of medicine like others or at least a faculty on its own.
The answer i got was; It wasnt as specialized as ophthamology.
Its in faculty of life sciences here in uniben, dont know about unilorin(that's why i asked.
Anyway,i find the course really very interesting {having to learn about the human eye and about lenses,curing some diseases and contacts,etc}
Hi Ray360 , i dont think its a general tendency for all optometrists to wear glasses.
Some final yr studs i know don't.
(although i do, not because of optometry tho. tongue )
OOPS! Hope i didnt just write an epistle.
GOOD MORNING!
exactly! such a wide course should share a faculty with medicine like Dentistry does. I once saw a 400l optometry student reading, mehn! you need to see elaborate diagrams of laborious standards, more like those diagrams in anatomy where you can't even tongue the labels.

Lol. Some Optometry students wear lenses even though their sights isn't frail..

good morning dear Grace! nectar-wine sweetness of ladyship.

I feel it's because dentistry is quite popular, everyone visits that dentist frequently, Maybe not in Nigeria but abroad.
it is older than optometry but age here cannot be considered a factor. optometry should be more appreciated than dentistry but it's not in Nigeria because there are few specialized optometrists here. in places like India, optometry is regarded as a special kind of course, it's much more appreciated than her sister. conclusively we can say that the area/continent/country plays a major role on which is more appreciated.

good Morning.
God bless you for this Eye-opener. you said A country like India Is at the fore Of Optometry. Contrary to what DR Uduak said, Nigeria is at the first flight Of countries where Optometry is even considered as a Medical field of study. And yes, I concur with the fact that there are A slew amount of specialist in Optometry in Nigeria hence the introduction of the course in Universities to broaden and elongate our national tentacles. just 4 Universities are offering it at the moment.
