Klopp’s side headed to the Italian capital with a commanding 5-2 advantage from last week’s first leg, where their Serie A opponents snatched faint hopes of a comeback by netting a pair of late away goals.Still, Roma had no margin for error – certainly not to the magnitude of the woeful blind pass midfielder Radja
Nainggolan played in the ninth minute that resulted in Sadio Mane opening the scoring.

An incredibly unfortunate James Milner own goal did not knock Liverpool off their stride, with Georginio Wijnaldum restoring their ample cushion in the 25th minute. First-leg goalscorer Edin Dzeko got in on the act seven minutes into the second half and frantic Roma pressure followed.

The mountain proved too steep for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side to climb and the chances of a comeback to match their quarter-final heroics against Barcelona had all but evaporated by the time Nainggolan clattered in off the post four minutes from the end and dispatched a penalty deep into stoppage time.

It means only Liverpool’s pursuit of a sixth European title stands between Madrid making it three in succession.

Liverpool head into the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash against Roma holding a formidable lead, but they will have to be wary of the Italians' capacity for a comeback.

Jurgen Klopp's Mohamed Salah-inspired Reds won the first leg 5-2 at Anfield, which is a favourable result, but the Giallorossi's two away goals mean that they still have a reasonable chance.

The Serie A outfit were similarly trailing Barcelona in the quarter-final only to claim a shock away-goals triumph and they will need to show the same resilience at the Olimpico on Wednesday.

Roma have been dealt a blow with the news that Diego Perotti, who scored in the first leg, will be unavailable, while Netherlands international Kevin Strootman has also been ruled out, meaning there will be changes in midfield at the very least.

Real Madrid are into the Champions League final after a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, for whom Sven Ulreich’s error proved costly.
Sven Ulreich’s huge error ultimately proved decisive as Real Madrid progressed to the Champions League final thanks to a 2-2 draw in an enthralling semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid came from behind to win 2-1 last week in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, and sealed their progression with a 4-3 aggregate triumph despite an unconvincing performance on Tuesday.

Bayern took the lead in the third minute, Joshua Kimmich opening the scoring following a mistake by Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The hosts were quick to reply but it was Karim Benzema and not Cristiano Ronaldo, making an outfield record 152nd appearance in the competition, who took centre stage.

Benzema’s close-range header ensured Madrid’s deficit lasted only eight minutes, and 21 seconds into the second half he was presented with a gift when Ulreich misjudged a back-pass from Corentin Tolisso.

Tottenham moved one step closer to securing Champions League football next season with a 2-0 Premier League win over Watford.

Dele Alli was on target and Harry Kane narrowed the gap in the Premier League’s golden boot race as Tottenham strengthened their grip on a Champions League qualification place with a 2-0 win over Watford.

Spurs went into Monday’s game at Wembley just two points ahead of Chelsea, who are on a run of three successive league wins and seeking to keep the pressure on their cross-city rivals in the race for the final spot in Europe’s top club competition.

But Tottenham extended that gap to five points with just three games to play thanks to an ultimately routine win against a Watford side still not quite safe from relegation.

A goalkeeping error from Orestis Karnezis enabled Dele Alli to open the scoring 16 minutes in with his fourth goal in five Premier League appearances.

Tottenham have not lost in the top flight this season when opening the scoring and, though captain Hugo Lloris was required to maintain their advantage, Kane gave Watford a mountain to climb with his 48th-minute effort, moving him onto 27 league goals – four behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were in control from then on, with a seemingly minor injury that forced Mousa Dembele off the only blot on the victory as Watford remain six points above third-bottom Southampton, who have a game in hand.

Eric Dier threatened early for Tottenham as he headed over a Dembele cross but they were largely unconvincing until Karnezis gifted them an opener.

Kieran Trippier whipped in a cross from the right and Karnezis fumbled what should have been a straightforward take, allowing Christian Eriksen to lay the ball off for Alli to calmly slot home.

Watford would have levelled if not for a smart save from Lloris, who denied Andre Gray from close range after Etienne Capoue had intercepted and played the forward in on goal.
Spurs had a penalty claim waved away by referee Michael Oliver when Abdoulaye Doucoure appeared to bundle over Son Heung-min in the area but they were fortunate to go into the interval level.

Richarlison raced clear for Watford only to be thwarted by Lloris, who got down low to his left to preserve parity before racing way off his line to dispossess Doucoure and quell another dangerous attack from the visitors.

Watford’s inability to beat Lloris was swiftly punished three minutes after the restart as Kane, on his 150th Premier League appearance, doubled Spurs’ lead.

The England striker initially slipped as he overran Son’s low cross, but the ball rolled through to Trippier and Kane was alert to pick himself up and tap in the right-back’s subsequent delivery.

Kane was presented with a simple chance to score his second but mis-kicked with the goal gaping after Jan Vertonghen clattered the post with a header.

Watford’s best opportunity to get back into the game came when Troy Deeney nodded down for Richarlison, who could only fire way over on a frustrating night for Javi Gracia’s side but an important one for Tottenham in their pursuit of a top-four finish.

Bayern Munich has to score at least twice in the Santiago Bernabeu to have a chance of progressing to the final.

Real Madrid will reach their fourth Champions League final in five years if they can see off the Bundesliga Champions in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday.

Zinedine Zidane's side already have one foot in Kiev after beating Bayern 2-1 in the first leg last week and they will be confident of finishing the job at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Liga giants were trailing a Joshua Kimmich goal before Marcelo and Marco Asensio struck to give them two away goals heading into the return leg.

Jupp Heynckes' side now have a tall order to fulfill in the Spanish capital if they are to end their rivals' pursuit of three Champions League titles in succession.

REAL MADRID
Real have been dealt a blow with the news that Isco will be unavailable for the game, but defender Nacho is in contention.

Cristiano Ronaldo comes into the game especially fresh after sitting out the weekend's victory over Leganes, with Gareth Bale expected to miss out at his expense.

Barcelona Won the LA LIGA Title in style on Sunday Evening.

Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as Barcelona regained the title in LaLiga with a pulsating 4-2 win against Deportivo La Coruna, who were relegated.

The runaway leaders headed into Sunday’s fixture at the Riazor knowing a point would be enough to win a seventh title in the past 10 seasons and the 25th in their history.
A routine victory looked on the cards from the moment Philippe Coutinho finished Ousmane Dembele’s pass, and Messi scored a 30th league goal of the campaign from Luis Suarez’s sensational assist to double the lead.

Lucas Perez deservedly cut the deficit before the break and Emre Colak finished a fine team move to level in the 64th minute.
Ultimately, though, Depor failed to complete the comeback and the brilliant Messi stuck the nail in their Liga coffin with two further late strikes to leave Barca celebrating another title triumph.

It caps a significant turnaround for a Barca side that saw Real Madrid conquer LaLiga and the Champions League last season, while a 5-1 aggregate Supercopa de Espana defeat to their Clasico rivals in August coupled with the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain led to suggestions the Catalan giants were in crisis.

Barcelona has won 7 La Liga Titles in the past 10 years. A decade of dominance.

Marouane Fellaini headed a stoppage-time winner to earn Manchester United a 2-1 home victory in Arsene Wenger’s last visit to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager.
Wenger, presented with a gift by old rival Alex Ferguson before kick-off, rested the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette with an eye on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final, naming his youngest league XI since 2011’s infamous 8-2 loss at United.
And the Frenchman’s young side were on track to do him proud, Henrikh Mkhitaryan levelling on his Old Trafford return after Paul Pogba’s early opener for United.
Pogba failed to take advantage of an early chance but he made amends with the opening goal in the 16th minute.
Lukaku floated a cross to the back post and, although Hector Bellerin deflected Sanchez’s header on to the post, Pogba was well placed to cushion in the rebound with a cushioned volley.

Like Sanchez, Mkhitaryan was facing the club he left in January, and the Armenia international almost levelled with a drilled strike that flew just wide.

Mkhitaryan and Maitland-Niles had penalty appeals rejected as United’s intensity dropped, allowing Arsenal into the game, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent a poor header straight at David de Gea in the 36th minute.

United allowed their former player too much space in midfield, Mkhitaryan finding the gap between Victor Lindelof’s legs to beat De Gea from the edge of the penalty area.

United thought they had scored a late winner when Rashford bundled in on the line after Fellaini’s header rebounded off the post, but the offside flag cut short their celebrations.

There was no stopping United in added time, though, Fellaini glancing in an excellent header from Young’s perfect centre to ensure Wenger would only leave Old Trafford with his present from Ferguson.

Antoine Griezmann equalised eight minutes from time to grab a 1-1 draw and give 10-man Atletico Madrid the advantage in their Europa League semi-final against Arsenal.

An expectant Emirates Stadium enjoyed an early onslaught from the Gunners in Arsene Wenger’s final European home match and Atletico right-back Sime Vrsaljko haphazardly collecting two yellow cards inside the opening 10 minutes placed further onus on the hosts.
Atleti’s famously miserly backline played without direction from boss Diego Simeone, who was sent to the stands by referee Clement Turpin, having refused to curtail his protests following Vrsaljko’s dismissal.

They managed to hold out until the 61st-minute, when Lacazette expertly directed Jack Wilshere’s cross beyond Jan Oblak.
Simeone’s men had virtually disappeared as an attacking force in the closing stages but an ever-alert Griezmann preyed upon shoddy work from Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny to bear down on goal, find the roof of the net and entirely alter the complexion of an absorbing tie.

Luis Suarez scored in the Champions League for the first time this season as Barcelona, aided by two own goals, took a commanding 4-1 first-leg lead against Roma in their quarter-final.

The Uruguay international last found the back of the net in Europe in last term’s incredible 6-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, but he restored Barca’s three-goal cushion in the 87th minute after Edin Dzeko grabbed a late away goal.

Ernesto Valverde welcomed Lionel Messi, the match-winner against Chelsea in the previous stage, back into his starting XI following injury, but the Catalan side toiled until Roma shot themselves in the foot either side of half-time.

Messi was involved on both occasions as Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas put through their own net, settling what had been a rather nervy Camp Nou.

Gerard Pique got the third before the hour mark and, following Dzeko’s strike 10 minutes from time, Suarez hit the target in the Champions League for the first time in over a year.

Roma’s early resolve was admirable in the absence of injured duo Radja Nainggolan and Cengiz Under, but they look to have too much to do back in Italy, with the chances of Eusebio Di Francesco’s man mustering the firepower to down the LaLiga leaders extremely slim.

Mohamed Salah inspired a first-half blitz as Liverpool seized control of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City with a stunning 3-0 win at Anfield.

As expected, the first leg of the all-English tie provided plenty of goals, albeit few predicted Jurgen Klopp’s side would score three without reply against the Premier League champions-elect.

Salah broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, grabbing his 38th goal of a prolific season after Roberto Firmino had capitalised on Kyle Walker’s failure to clear the danger.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled Liverpool’s advantage with a blistering drive from distance, while a third arrived just after the half-hour when Sadio Mane headed home Salah’s delivery from the right flank.

Sensational in the first half, the home side rather retreated after the interval, their cause not helped by Salah’s departure with an apparent groin injury.

The City manager selected Ilkay Gundogan in midfield, meaning no start for Raheem Sterling against his former club, hoping an extra body in midfield would give his side a modicum of control to proceedings.

The move worked – for all of 12 minutes. Having barely had a kick, Liverpool took the lead on their first attack of note, triggering a chain reaction that left City on the ropes.

Salah’s pace down the right set up a shooting opportunity for Firmino and while Ederson denied his fellow Brazilian with a smart save, Walker’s failure to clear the ball allowed Liverpool’s striker to toe-poke the ball across to his waiting team-mate.

City had the chance to hit back almost immediately when Liverpool’s eagerness to capitalise on a free-kick caught them short of numbers, Leroy Sane wasting the opportunity when he dragged a left-footed shot wide despite having colleagues in support.

The miss looked even more costly when Liverpool scored two more before the break, starting with a right-footed rocket from Oxlade-Chamberlain even more impressive than his long-range effort against the same opponents at Anfield earlier in the season.

Mane had the home fans pinching themselves when he made it 3-0, heading Salah’s teasing cross to the back post into the ground to make sure the ball bounced up out of the reach of the diving Ederson.

Guardiola waited only 12 minutes into the second half to bring on Sterling, who was welcomed back to his old stomping ground by a chorus of boos – his only contribution luring Henderson into a rash tackle that earned him a booking and a suspension.

Klopp was forced into an early substitution in the second half too, Salah disappearing down the tunnel to have treatment after pulling up.

Georginio Wijnaldum’s introduction signalled a reshuffle but Liverpool struggled to clear their own territory as they were pegged back by City’s relentless passing.
Yet for all their patient probing, and despite dominating possession, the visitors failed to test goalkeeper Loris Karius in front of a raucous Kop, leaving them facing a monumental task in the return fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool know a thing or two about dramatic comebacks in Europe, yet they – not City – are the ones in pole position to reach the last four.

Liverpool and Manchester City will meet for the 179th time in all competitions, but this will be their first-ever meeting in European competition.

Jurgen Klopp has won five matches against Pep Guardiola in all competitions; more than any other manager (excluding shootouts). With two of these victories coming as Liverpool manager (in four attempts).

Liverpool haven’t lost a home match in European competition since October 2014 (0-3 vs Real Madrid) and are now unbeaten in 14 European games at Anfield (W9 D5 L0).

Manchester City will be appearing in a Champions League quarter-final tie for only the second time – the first occasion was in 2015-16 when they progressed over two legs versus Paris Saint-Germain, 3-2 on aggregate.

Liverpool are the top scoring team in the Champions League this season following the quarter-final stage (28 goals). The record tally of goals by an English team in a single Champions League campaign is 32 by Manchester United in 2002-03, while Liverpool’s club record is 29 goals in 2007-08.

The two meetings between Liverpool and Manchester City so far this season have produced 12 goals in total, with 26% of the shots attempted scored (12/47).

Leroy Sane has scored three goals in his two appearances against Liverpool so far in 2017-18.

Sergio Aguero has scored in all four of his Champions League away appearances so far this season for Manchester City (four goals) – no player has scored in five away appearances in a single CL season for an English club.

Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, the second a moment of pure quality, helped Real Madrid to a commanding 3-0 win over Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The Portugal star became the first player in the competition’s history to score in 10 consecutive appearances, a run that began when Madrid beat Juve 4-1 in last season’s final, before setting up Marcelo to add what could be a crucial third for the reigning champions.

Paulo Dybala was sent off for the hosts in the second half to compound a miserable outing as they suffered their first loss in all competitions since November, and a first at home to Madrid in Europe since 1962.

With the home crowd stunned, Marcelo combined first with Isco and then Ronaldo before clipping the ball over Buffon and blasting home on the line with 18 minutes remaining.

Mateo Kovacic hit the bar from the edge of the box and Ronaldo missed a golden chance to get his third, volleying over unmarked from barely six yards out, but the damage had been well and truly done.

Messi netted 73 times in 2011-12, bagged 60 the following season and 54 last term. A late spurt this time could see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner go on to match that tally, yet it does not really matter much. Because these days, his influence is extended far beyond goals – and this is perhaps the greatest version of Leo ever seen.

“Messi has surprised us ever since he emerged,” former Barca defender Miguel Angel Nadal told Goal. “With the career he has had, we never know where his ceiling is. He has changed with experience and with age.

“I wouldn’t necessarily go as far as to say that this is his best [version], because there have been some amazing years. Every year he surprises you. But one of the things he has is his consistency in competition. He is consistently at a very, very high level.”

During the early years, Messi was an explosive right winger. Then, under Pep Guardiola, he was transformed into a ‘false 9’, moving inside to see more of the ball and more of the goal. Gradually, however, he has morphed into a deep-lying playmaker, still scoring but now creating just as much for others.

“When he started out, it was almost as a winger, on the right flank, taking advantage of his pace and his technique,” Nadal said. “And little by little, because of the needs of the team and his own conditions, he has moved to help the team and today, he is part midfielder, part attacker. He is farther from the goal.

“He still scores loads of goals. Not as many as before, but perhaps that is now his only function now. Messi is a player who can play in any position on the pitch.”

Without him, Argentina were thrashed 6-1 last week by Spain. And in his absence on Saturday, Barcelona were deservedly heading for their first defeat of the season in La Liga. That was until his introduction after 57 minutes, which gave Ernesto Valverde’s side a psychological lift and also an instant improvement as they began to create chances

“Messi is important in any team,” Nadal said. “The skills he has mean that he is always extremely decisive. When you have Messi in your team, on the pitch, it is an important influence – and his presence also affects the rival.

“Apart from marking the rhythm of the games, he is a player who is defining an era.”

And, at the age of 30, the majestic Messi of today is arguably the most complete and the very best of all the Leos we have watched and admired throughout the years. Which is really saying something.

Ahead of Today's Big UEFA Champions league game,

This will be the 20th meeting between these two clubs in European competition, with all 19 previous games being in the Champions League or European Cup. Real Madrid have won nine times, Juventus eight times and there have been two draws.

These two clubs last met in the 2016-17 Champions League final in Cardiff, with Real Madrid prevailing 4-1 to pick up their record 12th European Cup/Champions League title.

Real Madrid will be looking to progress to the Champions League semi-finals for the 13th time – their 12 appearances at that stage are already a record.

Juventus have previously made it through to the Champions League semi-finals on seven occasions, which is a record for an Italian club. Only Real Madrid (12), Barcelona (11) and Bayern Munich (10) have reached the semi-finals on more occasions in the competition.

Juventus are currently on a 27-game unbeaten run at home in European competition (W16 D11 L0) and have not lost on home soil in Europe since April 2013 versus Bayern Munich (0-2). In these 27 games, they have kept a clean sheet on 14 occasions.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in all five of his Champions League games against Juventus (seven goals) and only against Bayern Munich (9) has he scored more in the competition. In fact, Ronaldo has scored more Champions League goals against Juventus (7) than any other player – nobody else has more than four goals against the Italians in the competition.

Gianluigi Buffon will be looking for his 50th clean sheet in what would be his 116th appearance in the competition – only two goalkeepers have previously done this: Iker Casillas (in 148 apps) and Edwin van der Sar (in 96 games).
