Pavlov (1902) started from the idea that there are some things that a dog does not need to learn. For example, dogs don’t learn to salivate whenever they see food. This reflex is ‘hard-wired’ into the dog.

In behaviorist terms, food is an unconditioned stimulus and salivation is an unconditioned response. (i.e., a stimulus-response connection that required no learning).


Pavlov predicted the dogs would salivate in response to the food placed in front of them, but he noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever they heard the footsteps of his assistant who was bringing them the food.

When Pavlov discovered that any object or event which the dogs learned to associate with food (such as the lab assistant) would trigger the same response, he realized that he had made an important scientific discovery.

This is also applicable in a relationship. When a man or woman hear the voice of their spouse, something naturally respond inside that says my husband or wife (sweetheart) is around, then (most cases) leave whatever to respond to that inner call. This how most were at the beginning.

So, most relationship started very well, both spouse are happy seeing each other laugh, dance, jokes etc but at some point it get cold. For instance, at some point both spouse may not be attracted to each other but just living together. They (may) say we are together hence there is nothing special about each other, let us just stay alive and live together as husband and wife at least for marriage sake, no more fun, jokes, laughter etc, communication is mostly on family responsibilities nothing else.

When situation come to this stage what is the remedy?

In my opinion (rev2214), I will say, trying to make your spouse get your attention forcefully at this stage maybe a difficult task, it may turn to be a total waste of time and energy. But rather focus on material that can bring both of you together more often than never before and gravity towards what will improve your intimacy that ultimately can bring joy and happiness in your marriage. You don't have to own all the money in the world, but with the little in your possession buy him or her gift occasionally and stay close to your spouse carry the children along and build a happy home. With this method I guess you don't need to force yourself on your spouse to be noticed rather it will close the gap between you in your relationship.

So, I believe this can heal any broken home. Please stay alive and enjoy your marriage. God bless you
