It's not weird you just lack communication etiquette, not taking permission per se but asking if the person don't mind if you send a VN; this is expected when we are already chatting by typing, and in the middle of it you feel the need to send a VoiceNote you should ask the person if he doesn't mind, because he might be somewhere where he couldn't listen and reply.

Asking weda you could send VN shows that you are thoughtful about the other person.

What's hard here to understand. It might be a great convinient for you the sender but what about the receiver?

"dumbass" is a strong word. You could just have closed your ears to what he said in preference to the strong word used. In my case, I prefer typing as a form of communication using whatsapp, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone the right to their preferred communication style. Voicenote has its uses, so does typing. I understand there are things that can't be expressed through typing where the effect sought may be watered down. That is where voicenote comes in. Just one of pros for voicenote.
