Things like this is been done already, most especially outside the country.... I am just interested in how we can fine tune things to fit our own environment and not meeting the stringent requirements the whites do to produce mushrooms.

But thank you for the compliment. A lot of things we will be talking about here...just grab a chair and sit back ma'am.

Two other interesting facts for this is the fact that the kind of mushroom I work on (pleurotus pulmonarius which is the oyster species) grows in 2-3 weeks and can be harvested between the 3rd and 4th week.
Secondly, growing mushrooms requires waste materials like dead leaves, sawdust, dead plants or wood remains and even paper/carton. My focus is on using sawdust right now.

When I started this as a hobby in 2016, little did I know that I would skip service because of it.

Fast forward to 2019, with the help of a good person, I have decided to turn this into a business due to the response that I have gotten from some individuals who bought the little that I produced. It was a funny moment the first time I produce mushrooms back in 2016 in my village in Abia state. The way my aunt held her chest and was shouting as if somebody died (Lol). My cousin would not just stop shouting "school is good, school is good."
Alas, I did not even study anything concerning mushrooms in school. Twas just a hobby as at then. They thought getting mushrooms is dependent on nature alone, but the world is moving farther from being dependent on nature and harnessing it's potentials for the benefit of mankind.

But my interest really took off when some of the women approached me to produce it for them to be taking to the big markets on market days. But I could not because of some of the challenges in the cultivation that I needed to overcome and also to gather enough experience in growing the crop to make it a worthwhile venture.

After harvest egusi requires much water for washing there after drying. Now, not all farm lands has water source. So during the dry season between December to march, some farmers quit d business. Hence the scarcity there by leading to inflation. But during d raining season most farms use rain water for washing. Hence the abundance n fall in price.

Secondly, egusi doesn't need much rain for maximum output. When the rain becomes too much, most egusi farms behave poorly hence inflation again.

I find nairaland to be a great place for learning, cos I have learnt and gotten great ideas from this forum. Although, I know that there is the other aspect which involves tribalism and the rest, but that is not my concern for today.

I want to ask people who are into the production or trading of egusi a question that has been baffling me for sometime. Anyone with the knowledge of egusi market can also enlighten us.
What really caused the sudden increase of egusi price in the market. I know that it was around #100 and #120 some time ago. All of a sudden, we got a jump to about 250 and in some quarters, 300.
What could be the economics behind this?
Increased demand, lower supply etc...

I will really appreciate anyone who can enlighten I and other curious individuals with some good explanations.

Most of us want to be like Christ-which is more than possible- to be able cast out demons, turn water into wine, break principles in quantum physics and all that. Most new believers want to work on water, but let's stop to ask ourselves this; what was Jesus doing for 30 years before He started on His journey( I am not saying we have to go wait that long for the power to be made manifest in us). But when we become born again, the training starts and how fast we are able to manifest this power depends on us. Yes, you. The Holy Spirit will not force you to make prayers or read the bid and other literatures of faith.
Many Christians are weak, no doubt and that is why the satanic kingdom is gaining ground in the world today. If the church(YOU) are to be a formidable force of power, you have to use the spiritual weapons which you have been given of which prayer is one of them. Wonder why Jesus will pray tirelessly if it were not important. Prayer not only protect us from the wiles of the evil ones but it also help us to grow, that was why Jude 20 tells us to build up our faith by praying in the Holy Ghost.
Another important point that I will like to buttress is on the issue of getting knowledge. No one can come to my father's house to lay claim to it when I have knowledge of it. This can only happen when I have no knowledge of it. When Christians immerse themselves in word through the bible, messages, teachings, discussions and other bible literatures, they will understand the deep things of the kingdom and how to command power. Of course you can only do this when you know your inheritance in Christ Jesus; John 1:12 is a verse I love so much. Through this was Jesus able to defeat Satan during His fasting.
Let us follow this two examples of Jesus and watch ourselves grow in another dimension that controls this dimension and hence making the church a source of power.

Many of us see people selling books like 'How to be successful', 'Think and grow rich' and things of the sort. But then you ask yourself, how come these people are not sucessful. It is not like the book is bad or anything else, its just that these people are not ready to pay the sacrifices stated in these books.
You want to be sucessful in your career, academics, business or relationship....yes we all want to, but are you willing to pay the sacrifices. Can you wake up by 3:30am or 4am to work on it. The difference between a dream and a goal is that goals have processes but dreams do not. The 3,500 movies that you have in your hard drive will be watched someday, you are going to attend that party someday, the girl/boy that is taking 95% of your brain energy will not get married to a failure. That dream of yours will not give you its best if you don't give it your best. You just have to #FOCUS.

We all know the story. You are born, your parents feed you, clothe you, pay your fees, beat you when you misbehave( at times, it is needed) and all that until you are matured to be on your own, although I doubt if can we ever be on our own. We still need to depend on or trust someone to continue.
Well, it is unfortunate that majority of the people that we depend on or trust still fail us at some time; it may not be their fault though. Your uncle promises to send you something in school, but when that time comes, he is unable to give you anything because his boss or the government has not paid him. A friend or a relative promises to help you get that job position; but then, its a failure at the end.
I am not telling you not to trust or depend anyone, but it is better when we take all that trust and put it someone else. Too bad some of us don't believe He is there(trust me when I tell you that I have been in this class for a long time until something which is beyond scientific explanation happened- I told Him that 'look, I am tired of this kind of life that I am living. I am tired of the disappointments. I want to trust you with my life but I just don't believe that you are there. If you are, come and make me trust you and then change these things about me(which I wrote on a paper and I have been ticking them ever since; some I wrote with blind faith, but.....sweet story for another time though) and those that claim to believe feel that He won't answer on some minor issue, so you just have to work it out with your power right; after all, Heaven help those who help themselves. We see God as this old man with white beards and a staff like Gandalf sitting on one golden throne up there in the skies who is frowning at the mistakes we make. He is not interested in me because I am a bad boy or He is so busy with other things for Him to think of where I can get 100 naira to buy airtime.
Well, the thing is; he is interested in everything about you. From your relationship to finance, job, academics, family, business, growth of your blog....just name it, He is interested if not His book will not say that you are much more than many sparrows, He will not have created you if He could not cater for you just like your parents will not give birth to you if they cannot cater for you except by mistake; but you were not created by mistake right? As well, He will not send His son to die for you(I just hope we believe in Him) if He does not like you because of your mistakes.
Just as you depended on your parents, you can also depend on Him, only that this time, nothing will be impossible. He is interested in that your little case just as a child is interested in minor things because Jesus will not tell you to be humble like a child if He isn't.
Even if this is not from your heart, just keep on saying 'Heavenly Father, I trust you with this business/academics'. Keep on saying it until you believe it. Invite Him even though your mind tells you that He is not there, He doesn't like you or you are too bad for Him to help you.
Seriously, I have been in a more awkward situation and all I did was say 'Help me trust you' and then it all started changing. Just try it.

Good day everyone. Please I want to create lab in a room that has not been used before for some personal project. The problem is that the room is really contaminated and this can affect my work. I once washed it down with hypo but found out that green mold started to grow on the woods some days later. I believe this to be trichoderma spp and it is possible that its spores are abundant in the room. How can I remove the mold already growing on the shelves and kill the spores which I cant even see. Someone advised me to use formalin to clean the room. But I still want to ask the professionals in the house what chemical or product can I use to kill these aggressive fungi and its spores as well as some other organisms in the room to make it sterile? Not a single one of these accounts is a credible account of his life. None of them reference any earlier texts and are therefore nothing more than hearsay and, as such unreliable. If we condemn hearsay evidence as unreliable in our court systems why should it be sufficient to establish the existence of an important historical figure? The evidence that is usually cited in support for the existence of Jesus comes from the writings of Josephus Flavius who was born in 37AD (some years after the
crucifixion) and wrote about the life of Jesus in 93AD, after the Gospels were written. He cited no sources for
his materials. Similarly Pliny the Younger (born around 62BC, Tacitus (64AD) and Suetonius (69AD) all wrote about Jesus but without any reference to contemporaneous sources. It is likely they got their information from believers but without sources the
passages do nothing more than document a social phenomenon.
In the previous point we mentioned that it is possible that contemporaneous sources existed but have since been destroyed or disappeared. If they did exist it is likely that these three respected historians (Tacitus in particular was known for the high quality of his research and referencing) would have referred to it directly rather than have relied on hearsay.

Let me deviate a little.
The type of agriculture that I wish to practice by the time I move to a bigger space will be top notch by the special grace of God. According to Mr world1 ''#teamnewgenerationfarmers''. To this effect I have a lot of developed agronomic techniques practiced that I have watched and read on the internet and I want to test them out so that I and others following this thread can use them for us to develop our agric industry.
The first experiment that I am carrying out is the vertical sack farming method. I saw this on one of those Mr Pavore9's enlightening threads. Though I have seen that growing with this medium does well for straight plants, having seen crawling plants grown with it. During my last visit to my mum's place, I decided to try it out with Beans since they do craw/climb. Unfortunately, I had to leave soon because of school, but I plan to start anew all my experiment on my new farm.
I will be worKing on cucumber. Let me explain this method in a simple way for us to understand.
I have plot of land on I which I build a house providing about 3 rooms. Which means that I will be having about 3 tenants in the house, but I will love to have more in order to increase my rent but I do not have any more land which might be too expensive or scarce to get. What I will do is to build storeys. With an additional decking, I can have 6 tenants and continously deck the house to the height that I want to get more tenants on just a plot of land.
In agriculture space needed to grow one plant can be use for about 7 plants depending on the size of your bag. The pictures should be able to explain better.

Here are some pics of the work done so far.

My school is closer to my dad's side, Abia state to be precise, i travelled there on Friday, being the 4th of February. My dad has about 2 acres of land but they are all scattered into plots. The first thing that i did was to clear the land closer to my family's house which is about 4 plots, but i was only able to weed about 1.5 plots(I know that i am a lazy boy).
The money that i will be spending on the project will come form my little pocket money in school(this one is a big sacrifice o). i want to grow okra, cucumber and pumpkin for a start. I was able to make some ridges and i got some good Okra and pumpkin seeds. i planted some of the Okra. I plan on getting some cucumber seed(Cu999 variety, u need to see the sizes of these cucumber) from Jasper's mum to plant.
While i was making the beds, i saw some insects coming out from my grandfather's abandoned house. Out of curiosity, i went to investigate and behold, i saw bees at the ceiling...would-be pollinators for my crops.
If i were to grow pollinating crops like cucumber, i will place beehives at strategic locations around the farm to increase productivity and as a means of increasing source of income from the farm, plant legumes to help soil fertility, act as cover crop, plant trees like cashew or cocoa around the farm to act as wind breakers etc.

I always wanted to make use of the lands belonging to my parents cos they've been lying idle for years, so I've decided to start something no matter how small.
One problem that I used to have is procrastination, but since I joined this Organiaztion called the Centre for Social Awareness Advocacy and Ethics, it all changed. The organization really inspired me. Through the organization, I was able to meet the chairman for Edo state farmers co-operatives. He told me to prepare a business plan, which I did. At that same period, I attended an agric seminar held by a Thai company at Owerri. And behold people, I met Jasper's mother. Yes our own Jasper7, the one with B Tech, Bsc, B Eng, Msc MBA and PhD in cucumber farming. She said that one should not start a business with loaned money but expand with it. A lot of people might not agree, but there is wisdom is those words. So there and then, I decided to start from the little that I have.
I will be discussing whatever I am doing on my farm.

Another issue that I have discovered is this, how can you have about 2-5 acres of land and you want to grow crops that takes about 10-24 months before you harvest and you are complaining that there aint no money in the sector. My mum took me to one of her farms which is about 0.6 acres. She told me that she gets about a 100k from growing cassava on it. I was astonished and I asked her how long it takes before getting such an amount of money and her reply was, if one plants now, you should be getting the money by this time next year. I kept my cool cos we all have different views. I know she didn't get to the level that I have attained so far.
My reasoning here is this, since one has a limited space, why not grow fast growing value crops like sesame, cabbages, pepper, Okra etc. With such, one will be able to harvest a lot within a year. Imagine dividing a 100k by 12 months, basically one will not even be earning up to #9000 per month compared to some people that earn about 40k-50k per month on one to two plots.

This is the first thread that I am opening on Nairaland. Needless to say that I am one of those members that lurk around the walls of NL, not wanting to be seen or heard, but just stay somewhere and observe activities mostly in the agric section.

I am very fascinated about agriculture. This sector combined with other sectors in Nigeria can help our nation the way it has helped Brazil, Kenya, Thailand, Angola etc. Sometimes, I do wonder what is holding Nigeria from attaining its full potentials in the agric industry. The answer is not far fetched. Some people may say it is bad governance/leadership which may be right, but countries like America, Germany, the Asian tigers didn't get to where they are today just because of good governance, but with good citizenry. In my opinion, one of the problems in our agric sector is lack of information. Open source information like what Pavore9, World1, Jethro2, Neduzze5[this guy is now our Thomas Edison...lolz] Jasper7 are providing here on NL is what keeps the developed nations ahead of us. Unfortunately, the bulk of our farmers do not have access to the internet.

Another is education(not schooling, cos I do not like schooling but love education). There are numerous potentials and challenges in the Nigerian agric sector. With education, these potentials will be found and challenges solved. Let me give an example. Last december, I traveled to my mum's place in Edo state where she has about 19 acres of land scattered in her village. Though she cultivates about 5-6 acres while the rest have been fallowing for some time now. During my stay, I met this young farmer of about 28 who grows pineapple and plantain on about 2-3 acres of land. This guy harvested about 20 something pineapple a day before the market day. There are women who come to buy these produce from them. They act as major distributors. They source from different farmers and distribute to dealers who come from Benin and other states. I was astonished when one of these women approached this young farmer and prized this amount of produce for 500 naira. I wanted to ask her if she meant 500 dollars. I was infuriated. No wonder the younger generation wants to work in the office. Who will want to sell that number of produce after how many years of waiting for the pineapple to produce and hardwork. The farmer asked her to pay #1000 which she refused and went away. She later sent her children with #600 to come and collect the produce. I asked the farmer(Oliver) if he would be busy the next day being the market day and he said no. I told him to take the crops himself to the market and refuse the #600, which he did. Alas, after deducting transportation of about #370, he was left with about #1500(although he didn't come home with the whole money, had to get some things for himself at the market).
