It's quite sad that Kanu Nwankwo must have felt the pressure and worked on the People's Elephant to get back in form just in time to defeat my home team from Ibadan for their first win of the season.

If you are well versed in Nigerian Political History, you will know that Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe are not in the same category.

Awo was a credible and progressive leader whom his people celebrate with tangible and clear legacies beyondn rethorics. Look at the Free Education, the First TV Station in Africa, the Cocoa House, Oodua Investments and several other achievements. I challenge you do list out the achievements of Zik in comparison that left as much impact on the Easterners. Awolowo's tangible impact on the Yoruba people is not matched by any other political leader in Nigerian History. Google it or un it through AI and you will get the same answer.

Secondly, Awolowo advocated for True Federalism, believing that unity could only be achieved if each ethnic group grew at its own pace through powerful regional self-governance. Azikiwe on the other hand advocated for a highly centralized Unitarian Government, the kind of Government we have today, which many now lament. Unsurprisingly, the birth of the Nigerian Unitarian Government came through Aguiyi Ironsi and was secretly supported by Azikiwe.

Thirdly, do you know that in the widely labelled "Igbo Coup" of 1966 by Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna, the compost believed it was only Awolowo, given his track record and integrity, that could lead Nigeria. This was despite the fact that Awolowo was then in prison.

Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu further confirmed Awolowo's leadership by referring to Awolowo as the best President Nigeria never had. None of these people saw Azikiwe as a contender despite being a fellow Igbo. If Awolowo was a betrayer and tribalism as some uneducated people say, do you think Ojukwu would not know better?

On the personal integrity level, Azikiwe had a massive financial scandal in 1956, when the Foster-Sutton Tribunal investigated the influx of Eastern Regional public funds into the African Continental Bank (ACB), a bank in which Azikiwe and his family held significant personal interests. The inquiry found that Azikiwe had breached public trust by failing to separate his private business interests from his public office.

Now consider what each man said about the other:

Awolowo said: Zik is a man of word, I am a man of action. Chief Azikiwe is a good nationalist, but he is not a practical administrator.

Azikiwe said: Awolowo is a brilliant man, but his politics is sectional. While some people preach welfarism for a section of Nigeria, we preach freedom and unity for the whole of Nigeria.

For all his advocacy for freedom, unity and central government, what did Azikiwe bring home for his people? He traded Prime Minister for ceremonial President and made politically alliances that undermined his integrity and ideologies. Surprisingly he was more concerned about being Premier of Western Region than his own Eastern Region.

And I suppose u are a Yoruba man who only sees good in only what his people do n overlook others ....who put d policy of 20 pounds for d Igbos after d war?....does that person sound to u like a national economist?....Zik may not be perfect but he always had Nigeria in mind...someone who wanted Nigeria more than biafra and u had the guts to tell me Awolowo was better Nigerian than Zik?...no let ogun descend on u dis morning
