"Three guests check into a hotel room. The front desk officer says the bill is N30,000, so each guest pays N10,000. Later the front desk officer realizes the bill should only be N25,000. To fix this, he gives the attendant N5,000 to return to the guests. On the way to the room, the attendant realizes that he cannot divide the money equally. Since the guests didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest N1,000 and keep N2,000 as a tip for himself. Each guest got N1,000 back: so now each guest only paid N9,000; bringing the total paid to N27,000. The attendant has N2,000. And N27,000 + N2,000 = N29,000 so, if the guests originally handed over N30,000, what happened to the remaining N1,000?" |
