"SEARCHING FOR SIGNIFICANCE (1)"
‘…You are Mine.’ Isaiah 43:1 NKJV
Do you remember the hit song by Dean
Martin, ‘You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves
You’? Such lyrics show up our deepest
concern. We want our lives to matter, to
mean something. Our deepest fear is of
coming and going—and nobody knowing!
We strive with our lack of education, our
spot on the financial totem pole, and our
looks. That’s why it bothers us when a
friend forgets to call, or a teacher forgets
our name, or a colleague takes credit for
something we have done. We crave
attention, drop the names of important
people in conversations, and put flashy
hubcaps on our cars. Fashion designers tell
us, ‘You’ll be somebody if you wear our
jeans.’ So we go out and spend half our
wages on a pair of Italian jeans. But then—
horror of horrors—the style changes from
tight to baggy, faded to black, and we’re left
wearing yesterday’s jeans, feeling like
yesterday’s news. Simply stated: you can’t
gain significance from the outside. It’s an
inside job. Your sense of significance must
come from someone you trust, someone you
know will never change, someone who
knows the worst about you and always
believes the best. And there’s only one such
source: God. So read on: ‘Thus says the
Lord, who created you…who formed you…
Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have
called you by your name; you are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be
with you; and through the rivers, they shall
not overflow you. When you walk through
the fire, you shall not be burned…For I am
the Lord your God…you [are] precious in My
sight’ (vv. 1-4 NKJV).

This challenge looks easy but it is not because everyone will arrive at a different answer… A Man bought goods worth ₦200 and paid the shopkeeper with a ₦1000 Note. The Shopkeeper had no change on him so he went to another Shopkeeper Joy (his neighbour) and collected ₦1000 change in ₦200 denominations, with which he settled the man and he left. A little while later, Joy came back angrily after she discovered the ₦1000 note she was given by the shopkeeper was fake, and demanded a replacement. To avoid trouble, the shopkeeper had to give Joy another ₦1000 and destroyed the counterfeit which had no real value. So Question for the geniuses… How much has the Shopkeeper lost in total? A. ₦1200 B. ₦2000 C. ₦1000 D. ₦1800 E. ₦2200 Goodluck Your time starts now |
one day Jesus went into a Samaritan village and was not well received. So the disciples said, 'Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?' But He turned and rebuked them, and said, You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them...' (Luke 9:54-56) What's at work in this story? A judgmental spirit. A poll taken by the Barna Research Group reveals that today most non-believers view Christians as too judgmental. So you can be sincere, but too severe. When you mix and mingle only with those who share your views and values, you can communicate with others in ways that attack, rather than attract. Let's be clear: never has it been more important to know the truth of God's Word and stand for it. But if you have the right doctrine and the wrong spirit, you'll drive more people away from Christ than you'll draw to Him. If Satan has his way, he will drive holiness out of our hearts and into our fists. Imagine - Christ's disciples wanting to incinerate those who didn't agree with them! They weren't even aware of the spirit that was at work within their own hearts. 'Jesus said... You shall love your neighbour as yourself.' (Matthew 19:18-19) That includes your non-Christian neighbour. You don't have to defend Jesus, or 'sell' Him. All you have to do is introduce Him. The Psalmist says, 'Taste and see that the Lord is good...' (Psalm 34:8.) .
