THE STORY OF ABOBAKU: AN INTERNET PRANK TAKEN TOO FAR. I have seen two pictures making the round on the Social Media, which some pranksters originated and which, unfortunately, is trending on the Social Media as the picture of the Abobaku. The first picture is the picture of black man being conferred with Irish citizenship by the Prime Minister. The second is an Ugandan warrior. Did the Yorubas of Ife had an history of Abobaku? Yes! But the last Obabaku went with Oba Adelekan, the Olubuse the first, in 1910. Internment of Abobaku with the King was outlawed by the Colonial Administration in 1930 after the passing of Oba Ademiluyi. While the Abobaku considered it an honour to die with the King, the Colonial Authorities thought otherwise. The Abobaku sued the Colonial Authorities to Court for depriving him the honour of being interned with the King and he lost the suit. He was spared. The next and 49th Ooni was the former Governor of the Western Region, Oba Adesoji Aderemi. Educated and urbane. The 50th Ooni is the King that just passed on. Yorubas, know your history! The academic war between Management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko [AAUA] in Ondo State and its striking lecturers has deepened following a report that the Vice- Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Femi Mimiko has commenced recruitment of new lecturers to replace the striking lecturers, having refused to pull out of the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities’ [ASUU] strike. DailyPost has gathered that Prof. Mimiko remains resolute about his decision to re-open the university on December 2, after he had ordered the students to resume this Monday for the commencement of the second term semester programme. But the Chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi has described the move by the management as illegal. He has vowed that the union would resist any action by the Vice-Chancellor to illegally recruit new workers to replace the striking lecturers. An Edo Man invited his friends for his mother's burial. After lowering the coffin, the family put yam, rice, meat etc, into the grave in line with tradition. A man asked why? The Edo man smiled &said, according to our tradition, the dead go on a long journey & need all the food items they can get". The man dropped N100,000 inside and said, "when the food finish, buy more". Another man dropped N50,000 and said, "add this incase it's not enough". Akpos smiled and brought out his cheque book & wrote a cheque of N200,000, dropped it in the coffin & took the N150,000 notes as a change, then said, "Nwanne, withdraw when you reach dia o...It is going to be a dangerous journey we don't know how many robbers are out there and afterall we are in a cashless economy na!
