At Ilesa Custodial Centre in Osun State, the Chief Imam of the centre made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to avoid actions that will land them in prison. Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered its ninth collapse this year, causing a widespread blackout across the country. According to data from the Nigerian system operator’s portal, the grid output dropped to zero megawatts (MW) around 2:09 p.m. on Tuesday. Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirmed the incident, reporting that the collapse occurred at 1:52 p.m. “Please be informed that a system outage occurred today, November 5, 2024, at 13:52, affecting supply within our network,” IKEDC stated. The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested a 24-year-old chef, Olusola Folorunso and 47-year-old security guard, Rafiu Mutairu for allegedly stealing properties worth N5.5m from their employer. According to a statement shared on X.com on Tuesday, the suspects allegedly took various items from their employer’s residence in a popular estate in Ojodu, Ikeja in September 2024 while their employer was away on a trip abroad. Items stolen include 5 split air conditioners, a chest freezer, a pumping machine, a refrigerator, a freezer, an inverter and jewelry all worth N5.5m. A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the case against 119 individuals charged over the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests. Justice Obiora Egwuatu dismissed the matter after an application by M.D. Abubakar, counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). Abubakar’s application was to take over and then stop the case which he argued is in line with the constitutional provision under section 174. “Take over this case and stop it as per section 174” Abubakar said during the Tuesday sitting. Ruben Amorim has ended his managerial duties at Sporting Lisbon to become Manchester United new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month. The Nigerian Army has reacted to the rumour of the death of its Chief of Staff Taoreed Lagbaja. The reports which started from a post by a Nigerian journalist claimed Lagbaja died of cancer 48 hours ago in an overseas hospital. The post went viral and further fuelled the rumour. The journalist’s post read’ “The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja is dead. A senior government official told me he died 48 hours ago of stage 3 cancer. His death is being kept secret because some generals are lobbying for his position.” It also gave details about Lagbaja’s background, saying he was born on February 28, 1968 in Ilobu, Osun State and was appointed 27th Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023. Erik ten Hag says Manchester United’s anger over Brentford’s dodgy first half goal was the motivation for their 2-1 comeback win on Saturday. Brentford scored in the 6th minute of added time at the end of the first half. De Ligt was forced off for treatment after a head injury and Brentford scored with the header from the corner. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike says former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lost political relevance in Nigeria. Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) has raised constitutional issues with Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies particularly in their fight against corruption as contained in Section 13 of the Constitution. Power Minister, Adelabu has revealed why the collapse of the national grid would not stop happening, while saying regional, state grids are solution to frequent power outages. Minister Adelabu spoke on Wednesday during the launch of Hexing Livoltek, a new electricity meter manufacturing company in Lekki, Lagos. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said his administration plans to increase the minimum wage to N85,000. Sanwo-Olu made this known on Channels TV’s “One-On-One with Babajide Sanwo-Olu” on Wednesday. On the minimum wage, Sanwo-Olu said, “I’m glad to tell you that after talking to our union, Lagos has set a minimum wage of N85,000. It’s not about competition or comparison with other states, but what we can afford.” Sanwo-Olu also said he hopes to announce an even higher wage in the future, targeting N100,000 by January 2025. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar has denied that the country apologised to Libya after the Super Eagles were detained in Benghazi. This is following a report by The Libya Observer that Nigeria had apologised for the situation. In a statement released by Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Communication Strategy, Tuggar described the report as an attempt to mislead African football officials and fans and gain political advantage. He said the report misquoted him and Libya’s Eastern based Foreign Minister, Abdelhadi Lahweej. Tuggar said instead of apologising, Nigeria expressed displeasure at the treatment of the national team and demanded a quick resolution.
