Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2017 NDDC Foreign Msc And PhD Scholarship by sethmelia002: 5:15pm On Jan 09, 2018
irahub:
In general, I do not like ranting a lot online but as days go by and I see the deteriorating nature of things among us, I am forced to at least put down my words even though it will at most fall on deaf ears and will just end up in nairaland. I will stand firm to state that black people cannot sustain anything be it protest, civilization or value system. During the time of Arab spring, some folks envisaged a sub-Saharan revolution where we Africans will rise up against the useless leadership across the continent. I only laughed and stated firmly - Black people cannot have any revolution. What we can have is only coups and counter-coups. The reasons I state this is simple - nature and a supposedly average lower IQ among us. I will will want to put these few points down for us to seat back and think deep within us
1.We as black people tend not to have any standard or value system - Where is black lives matter? Why are they not protesting anymore. Well, the black lives matter will help you to understand what I mean by value system. What do we define as wrong in our societies. If an Igbo man is killed in the north, Igbos will rise and shout and some may even hold a 2 day protests (which will of course take a natural death within days) , we will then understand that killing is bad. We will shout for justice. All the shouting and protest have more to do with hatred of other ethnicity that committed the killing rather than justice for the victim. But when igbos kill themselves, of course it will degenerate to different sub-igbo group while people that are not connected keep shut. When you see black people protest on whites killing blacks, there would not be any
mention of thousands of black crimes against fellow black. We have seen these countless number of times. When the military went for Ipod, the rest of the country kept shut - of course we can justify anything. Now may be the turn of the Benue people, I can tell you that not many Igbos have empathy for their situation. What of us the so called Niger Delta people. How do we stand firm to justice and stick to our value system even when the outcome does not affect us. For societies like these, the people that are likely to benefit are the ones that act in a more animalistic or violent nature since civility only ends in front of television screens. Think of what happens when protests are called up. If we decide to protest against Buhari, you will be rest assured that it is going to be a sectional protest only in the South and vise versa. Do you remember the 2012 fuel subsidy protest against GEJ administration? Why are we no longer protesting.
2. Constantly denying a fact does not change the fact to falsehood - Have you noticed everything about black people sounds racist to us. We are always looking out for racist white people and we tend to deny any fact that is not in our favour. When you talk about civilization and the fact that there is not evidence of modern civilization in sub-Sahara Africa, you will only see people shouting on top of our voices of how white people destroyed our civilization. How we built Egypt bla bla bla. Have we thought within ourselves if we were able to build Egyptian civilization, why are we not able to replicate any across the Sahara.
3. Have you noticed that after white people left us after independence, we are just nose-diving. Think of the products of western influence in Nigeria - Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Chukwuememeka Ike and many more product of University of Ibadan of Old (part of University of London), prestigious government college Umuahia and many much more. What sort of people are we producing today that black people are in charge. All you see are touts that are rich and controlling wealth they don't know what to do about it. No innovation whatsoever. Today, you hear of Asari Dokubo, billionare Ayari Emani, Babangida, Alikija, etc. If you ask what do these people do, you can't point anything except that they reaped from government. All we do is to support them because we might be gaining temporarily.
I even get tired of looking at facebook feed these days. Everything about their facebook post is either sex, marriage or religion. You only see idiots posting comedy all focusing on sex or one silly media person asking people questions about sex and the position that suits them and then we laugh and have fun. If not that, we get to see people dancing. That is all we can do. You hardly see anything beneficial to our society that are posted. How many black people have you seen delivering University level academic lectures on youtube even though there are millions of these lecture video on youtube ( I have only seen 1). My dear colleagues, we have a lot facing us as a people.

I love this piece, but I do not agree with your views a 100percent the reason being that some clever and very organized people have emerged from this black stereotype. You need to read about the Moors who conquered Europe. Spain comes to mind. The Moors are regarded as the Berbers a group dominated with the presence of black skin and fits into the description of the Zanj tribe in the Arab scholars narrative. You will be impressed by what the Black skin can do. They are direct ancestors of the Somalian race and inhabited the region called Maghreb

@irahub, I enjoyed reading your piece we share similar ideologies but I reckon since we are aware of this stigma attached to black people the best we can do as informed ones is to seek to change the status quo and preempt further discerning opinions from other races.

Back to the original matter the news coming through is that we all prospective awardees from 2017 should prepare for fresh applications before the first quarter of the year runs out. This is still consistent with feedback from last year concerning the status of the 2017 scholarship.

One word is enough for the wise.I still support a protest but to be honest I doubt if it will take us far
Jobs/VacanciesRe: NNPC Aptitude Test On December 6, 2014 by sethmelia002: 9:54pm On Dec 21, 2017
Is this a Joke, NNPC recruitment that was conducted about 4 years ago, intact close to 5 years, because I remember the first advert was brought out in Sept 2012 and then shifted to December to extend the deadline. After which we waited for another two years to write exam in 2014 and then APC government came on board to sack the incumbent NNPC management. Is this the same recruitment everyone on this thread is waiting for its outcome? If yes then I am sorry to dim your hopes. The recruitment is long gone.I know some people who have gotten in, this Country has wicked people indeed.Imagine how they keep people in the dark for so long without any form of sympathy .This is sad. This is the same thing happening with NDDC scholars. Some sets dating as far back as 2015 still haven't been paid up till now as I speak. Payment for upkeep and school fees are still wavering in the air, and no information as regards to what should be done has been initiated. Its so Sad.

Shey They've authorised payment? Good, It won't take beyond January 2018 max for scholars to get credited since its not rocket science.
Now pls tell that top source of urs, that they should be ready for a loud and vibrant backlash and media campaign they've never seen if the 2017 list is cancelled.
2018 is a very significant yr in this country if u understand what i mean. Note, the present board is not in the good-books of some prominent pressure groups of our region so they must have sense and handle sensitive issues with fairness. The present outcry is jst a child's play on how loud the wailing will be. We are only being reasonable cos of our owed friends. Except they will never get paid (which is not likely to happen) then they should brace up. Do they love Niger Delta better than we do?
Please take it to them, it is very frustrating. The protest shouldn't be about the outstanding debt alone but also the 2017 scholarship list.

Thanks for the info on this thread. It was a life saver. Abet people should continue to contribute for others. You never know who you are helping. I also want to add a few suggestions to the topic (for the students);

- If you need a part time job, you're better off in the States, England or Canada. You need a passive understanding of Spanish and whole lot of paper work before you see am. Jobs like working in Irish bars, clubs, (maybe cleaning) fit work but your studies might be affected.

- CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO THY SIZE. ORINGO, FAAJI PLENTY FOR HERE O.

- You want to save , carry your African wakis like ogbono, egusi, ground pepper, cray fish stock come. Unless you want to blow through your money quickly.

- Make the best of the experience. It's life changing.

-For cheap groceries, Mercadona, Lidl, Carrefour, Dia will serve. Visit them and compare prices. House brands are cheaper but if you buy foreign brands, it could be expensive.

- If you in Barcelona, be careful. Pickpockets are in the crowded areas.

- The Pakistani and Indians sell lot of African, oriental and carribean groceries. So if you looking for garri, beans, plantains (the markets gave them too) you'll get them there. Finally,

YOU'LL ASK YOURSELF WHAT IN HEAVENS NAME IS WRONG WITH NIGERIA.

Bluethroat101:
@sethmelia002 The 2017 list was put on hold because of the back logs from previous sets. The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs stated that clearly. I don't know why you are trying so hard to convince people otherwise as if you are in a better position than the Minister. On or about September 2017, there were a lot of Articles written in the Punch and Vanguard by people who stated that it was unwise and unreal for NDDC to release 2017 list without clearing backlogs. I am guessing the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs must have read one of these articles and aligned himself with the views of those people. You are saying that they should have released the list even if there was no money. How can you release a list when there is little or no money? Before now, NDDC used to deny these scholars by calling them fake. But now they are mandated by the Minister to cater for them. That is why they are stuck. The money they would have used for us has to be used to settle back logs and that makes sense. A cancellation of the list makes no sense at all. There wouldn't even be a 2018 scholarship application until past scholars have been paid. What is the point of releasing a list when there is no money to pay scholars? They are trying to avoid what happened years back.
I get your drift, but what is wrong in showing extra commitment to the 2017 set by releasing the list and advising when award of scholarship will be processed pending the settling of past shortfall. Should there be an issue with that? My friend this is already December the first set of intakes for the coming year commences in January and I am sure the NDDC management is fully aware of this so what stops them from making an extra commitment if the process isn't already jeopardised.

I won't bite with the name calling, but can you please tell me how putting the 2017 list on hold affects payment of arrears to past scholars going by what you have said. The 2017 set is not requesting for payment yet at least until the payment shortfall has been sorted, we just want the list to be released, so we are rest assured that we will be mobilised later when the Micky waters settle, so putting one and two together what stops the list from being released? Why can't the minister approve it's release in communique to the MD? You tell me, because the idea behind it is that it is over and done with from a withdrawal perspective. Please tell me.

Its even pathetic that you guys are stuck midway.I will try to update on any info I receive if that can help. But I honestly think these guys need to feel the heat.

I understand your viewpoint with respect to 2017 set, sethmelia, but these guys need to pay us asap. It is beyond urgent for me (and fellow scholars) as for instance any expense claim I am entitled to as a PhD student (we attend and present in conferences outside school and overseas sometimes), my school always withhold my claims' and pay it towards my debts. Nddc has given themselves a bad name here in the UK and if they do not clean house asap, home office will not accept scholarship letters as proof of funds anymore. So in that sense, it affects the new intakes even more.

As I said earlier, they always beat around the bush anytime I inquire about our funds, but roughly 3 weeks ago was the only time they actually responded with a different message (we are processing your payments) - fingers crossed. Naija will never cease to disgrace us. If I could take legal action, I swear I will. This wickedness has to stop.

To be honest with you I didn't see a need in asking what exact time the pending funds will be remitted, not because I wasn't concerned but I just figured out that it is of not so much an urgency not from the previous set point of view, but from a current set already in waiting.Think about it this way, if it has already been cancelled what's the point of asking the exact time of when previous set will be paid .They have already said the previous set will be paid and ours will have to undergo a fresh application. And I am sure they would have completed the settling of accrued debt before embarking on fresh applications. But trust me with these guys anything can happen. God knows the end .My two cents!!!.

Nobody is getting ready for this other than the payment of owed scholars and the release of the 2017 list. If this board members think they can do and undo with people's lives then this will mark their exit from the appointment. Suspending the scheme temporarily was hard to take but outright cancelling of that process with all the pains that pple went through will be strongly resisted. Go and tell them that.
I agree with you, but trust me it has been cancelled. The minister just used a subtle way of disseminating the information by saying it has been suspended,to avoid a public outcry or showdown. It is what politicians are good at. Within close doors it has been cancelled.Trust me on this.

@ Brainy, it is so frustrating, but that's what it is.There was a tussle at the National Assembly over this issue only for the newly appointed Chief secretary to ascertain the position of this current board tenure to supercede the year 2017. So we have to contend with this board for another 4 years. The Scholarship process has been jeopardised and now a new application is forthcoming.Really Sad

This is worse than the rumoured cancelation. I hope scholars funds weren't used to bribe national assembly members, who we all know are already rich from our collective wealth. Why allow us go through the stress and risk of going for test and interview when you have no clearcut plan of providing funds? This country and its leaders are really a big joke. The truth about this NDDC scholarship for 2017 is that it might never happen, now we 2017 scholars have to wait for next year for these awards pending when 2015 scholars get paid. 2018 is a bad year for such awards as funding for political position becomes a priority. And then we have to contend with another fresh set to compete with for such awards.
