Sports › Chelsea Too Poor For Top Four - Lampard by simonitoya(op): 4:50pm On Jan 21, 2016
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has dropped a bomb-shell.

In an exclusive interview with Sky sports news HQ, The former blues midfielder said his old club will not make the cut for champions league qualification this season.
"It is going to be tough for them as I can't see them making top four, which is a must normally for Chelsea," he said. "They have got to try and make the best of a bad season and look to the future.
"Chelsea will not be relegated, I will put my house on that now. I know they are sitting around there at the moment, but I think they have more than enough to get through that.
"But as I said, this should not be a conversation that we are having. A bad year for Chelsea should be third, fourth... Champions League might be a threat.
"You get nothing for granted in the Premier League, we know that. It has levelled out even more in the last couple of years with the money that some of the so-called lesser teams have spent.
"And Chelsea need to be up there, so something needs to be put right. I think they have broken all records, from being champions to being 16th. It does not happen that way and if you look at the squad and the quality of it, it is very hard to pinpoint why so many players have underperformed."

Has the Blues legend lost faith in his old team so soon?. Or maybe he has actually spoken the emphatic truth.

Sports › Barca Beat Athleti Again by simonitoya(op): 6:23am On Jan 21, 2016
Barcelona recorded a narrow 2-1 win over Athleti Bilbao in the first leg of the copa del rey at the San mames. An emphatic scoreline was probably expected by many considering the 6-0 spanking of Athleti recorded in this same fixture in the La-liga during the weekend, but without the suspended Luis Suarez and the injured Lionnel Messi, that maybe was one wish too far.

Barca took the lead in the 18th minutes when Munir El Haddadi turned home a brilliant cross from Ivan Rakitic. The lead was doubled in the 24th minute when Neymar capitalized on a defensive howler from Athleti's Herrerin to tap into an empty net. The second goal took the sting out of the home side who had started the game brightly. There were chances for either side even as the game was disrupted by a string of fouls.

It was close to becoming a comfortable win for the Catalans before Aritz Aduriz pulled one back for Athleti in the 89th minute to ensure a nervy finish.

The return leg will be played at the Camp Nou next Wednesday

Sports › Suarez Still Holds Grudge Against FIFA by simonitoya(op): 6:14am On Jan 21, 2016
Controversial Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has admitted that he refused an invitation from FIFA to attend this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Suarez was invited to the gala after being named the best player at the Club World Cup, but he still remains unhappy with football’s governing body after they handed him a four-month ban for a bite on Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.

He said “FIFA invited me to the Ballon d’Or gala using the excuse that I’d been named the best player at the Club World Cup,” Suarez told Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion, via Marca.

“I don’t think they’ve ever invited the winner of that prize before and it just so happens that they thought to invite me.

“It was a tournament that I was really excited about and I tried not to think about who had organised it,” he added on the Club World Cup in Japan, which of course is organised by FIFA.

The Uruguayan international was on the original 23-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award, which was named in October, but he missed out when that was cut to the final three.

Not even the fact that his teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar were up for the award persuaded Suarez to go to the ceremony.
Sports › What Would Chelsea Be Needing Alexandre Pato For? by simonitoya(op): 7:01pm On Jan 20, 2016
Reports emerging from Brazil suggests that former Ac Milan forward Alexandre Pato has reached a verbal agreement to join Chelsea. Though unconfirmed, it has been further revealed that the blues met with Pato and his agents on Tuesday night in London.
Pato who was once touted as the next big import from Brazil has seen his career take a downward turn. After a pretty much underwhelming spell with Ac Milan, he left for Brazil in 2013 where he joined Corinthians. He was however loaned to Sao Paolo for the 2014-15 season where he scored 19goals in 59 games . He has been capped by Brazil 27 times scoring 10 goals.
The quality his addition will bring to Chelsea remains to be seen who are also understood to be interested in Ezequiel Lavezzi of PSG.
