Politics › Before The Planned Downgrading Of An Igbo Man In Enugu State by Smaade(op): 5:13pm On Jun 02, 2019
Either way, the Federal government's decision to close or downgrade the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport as revealed by the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, is an ill wind – ill-conceived, ill-timed and ill-delivered.

Again, an Igbo man's place in the conflagration called "Nigeria" has been brought to the fore for re-examination.

Aside the fact that Ndigbo have been at the receiving end of virulent marginalisation, utter negligence and other gross ill treatments since coming on board of the present Federal government; no economic viable country would contemplate closing or downgrading the status of its already existing international gateway, when it can.........

Business › Nigeria Spends 60% Of Revenue On Debts, The Economist Says by Smaade(op): 8:33pm On Jun 01, 2019
The Economist, the international Business Magazine that is considered to be the mouthpiece of International Banking Concerns, has said that Nigeria spends sixty percent of her earnings to service loans.

In a publication on their website monitored in Lagos, The Magazine said the Nigerian government is postponing a crisis, not averting one.
"Officials are postponing a crisis, not averting one.

Consider borrowing. The debt-to-GDP ratio is 28 per cent, but Nigeria collects so little in tax that interest payments swallow about 60 per cent of federal revenues,” the Magazine said.

Since the Buhari administration, the country has gone into a borrowing spree that has not ended even with fears of mortgaging future generations to debt overhang.

Their borrowing from China has been…..

Crime › Militant Ultimatum Expires Today As Bakassi Boys Are Resurrected by Smaade(op): 12:43pm On Jun 01, 2019
The Abia state government has resurrected the dreaded Bakkasi boys just as the ultimatum given to the Federal Government by the Niger Delta Militants expires today, June 1st 2019.

A militant group have recently given notice that by June 1st, 2019, they will declare Niger Delta republic, claiming that they are militarily prepared to defend their territory.

They cited anti Niger Delta decisions of the presidency as their reason, naming the sack of the former acting Department of State Security, DSS, boss, Mathew Seiyefa and the humiliation of Walter Onoghen as the Chief justice of Nigeria as examples, among others.

Almost immediately, analysts allege, the President went into panic mode and signed an Executive Order banning guns and withdrawing all gun licenses.

The last time that the Niger Delta threatened the Federal government was in 2015, after the hand over to President Muhammadu Buhari by former President Goodluck ........

Uche Nwosu, son-in-law to the out-gone Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, and governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, AA, got the shock of his life when his party denied him on Friday, May 31, before the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri.

He, thus, suffered a setback.

It all started when two lawyers, Chief Okey Ehieze and, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, SAN, battled for who should represent the Action Alliance, AA.

While Akintola told the Tribunal that he was representing Uche Nwosu and the Action Alliance, Ehieze said he was "not a gate- crasher". Said he:

"From the processes before this honourable Tribunal, it is very clear that I am not a gate-crasher. I was validly appointed, vide a letter dated May 27, 2019, and signed by the National Legal Adviser of the party......

Politics › EFCC Denies Arrest Of Okorocha And Family, Seal-off Eastern Palms by Smaade(op): 6:16pm On May 30, 2019
The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied having made good their threat to arrest and prosecute Rochas Okorocha, the immediate past governor of Imo State. Reports has said that the anti graft agency has arrested the former governor. Also arrested were his wife, Nkechi, Gerald Okorocha and Okey Okorocha.

According to sources within the organisation, there is no truth in the story.

Rochas has been under fire from his own party when his bid to install his son in law as his replacement in what opposition regard as plans to cover his track failed. Even his bid for the Senate hit the rocks when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refused to give him Certificate of Return based on the confession of the Resident electoral commissioner that he declared Okorocha winner under duress.

Since then, Okorocha has been struggling to get his Certificate of Return.

The issue became complicated when the EFCC announced that they may arrest Okorocha........

Politics › Aggrieved APC Ex-governors And Stalwarts Plot Oshiomohole's Downfall by Smaade(op): 5:57pm On May 30, 2019
Some former governors are apparently not happy with Oshiomhole over the role he played in their political misfortunes.
“The case of Zamfara, for instance, has presented a good ground for his traducers to move against him.

Many APC stalwarts, particularly NWC members are angry that the party lost everything in Zamfara. They blame the party chairman for mismanaging the primaries in the state which led to the Supreme Court canceling the election of three senators, seven House of Representatives members and the governor,” the source told the magazine.

As at yesterday, the magazine learned that some members of the National Executive Committee, NEC have started collecting signatures to oust their National Chairman.

Some serving governors have also been mentioned in the plot.

Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state is believed to be the hatchet man for the immediate past APC governors who are angry with Oshiomhole while Governor Nasir El Rufai is leading the pack for incumbent APC governors.......

In an unprecedented move, President Buhari, after his inauguration for second term, left the scene without giving an inaugural speech.

Since Nigerian Independence, no democratically elected president has ever been inaugurated without an inaugural speech.

Even Buhari himself, in 2015 gave an inaugural speech after being sworn in.

Besides this, the presidential inauguration had it's own drama.

The head of the Brigade of guards was piqued by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, who came to sandwich himself among the Service Chiefs who lined up for the inaugural Oath of Office of President Buhari.

Politics › Peter Obi Advises Ihedioha: Don't Waste Imo Money, Ignore Chartered Jets by Smaade(op): 10:33am On May 29, 2019
From former Governor of Anambra state and the PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 General elections, His Excellency Peter Obi, came a warning to new Imo state Governor, His Excellency Emeka Ihedioha.

Speaking at a very high profile lecture on May 28 to mark the inauguration of Ihedioha as the governor, Obi, who was the Guest of Honour warned Ihedioha off three things.

The first thing, Obi told Ihedioha, is not to imbibe the habit of flying in chartered jets. 99 per cent of Nigerian Governors feel it is beneath them to fly on commercial planes.

This costs them millions of Naira. The governors blame it on exigencies of duties. But Obi told Ihedioha to perish the thought, and get on a commercial flight to save money with which to work for Imo people.

Obi: "Don't waste money. Ignore chartered jets. Why pay millions of Naira when you can pay only N40,000 and get to the same destination?"

The second is the office of the First Lady. It costs money.....

Hours before the swearing in ceremony for  second term of President Muhammadu Buhari, he has summoned a meeting of Northern Governors.

Though the reason for the current meeting is not officially stated, indications are that it has much to do with the allegations by former President Olusegun Obasanjo's scathing remarks about the security situations in the country.

Obasanjo had warned of threats of Fulanization and Islamization of the country under the present government. Incidentally, there has been an upsurge in security breaches in Nigeria, with the government hiding under various excuses to explain away their inability to tackle insecurity. Read More

Politics › 2023 Presidency: Interrogating Amaechi by Smaade(op): 10:05pm On May 22, 2019
Amaechi says Igbo did not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2019 presidential election.

For that, the zone does not deserve presidency in 2023.

Amaechi: "I don't know what they (Igbo) will do now for voting against the APC.

They cannot come to the table to demand the Presidency slot.

For people like us in the APC, if the Igbo had come and voted Buhari, they would boldly tell Mr. President and, the National Chairman of the party that Presidency should go to the South-east since the South-south, South-west and North-west have produced Presidents.

What argument would the South-east come up with now to convince anybody that they deserve the slot for 2023?"

Amaechi is Igbo, those condemning him must be doing so with a feeling of betrayal. Otherwise, he said nothing new.

A number of people had either said so before now, or hinted so.

Politics › Despite Intervention By Dangote, Others, Sanusi May Still Be Dethroned by Smaade(op): 9:30am On May 14, 2019
The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi II, is probably on the way to suffering the fate of his grandfather, who was dethroned in the sixties when he was caught in a political logjam of the period. He has just returned from a trip to London, and has been received by a mammoth crowd in Kano.

Recall that Mohammadu Sanusi, the grandfather of the current Emir, was deposed by Ahmadu Bello, the Saduana of Sokoto, due to what was once described as the unwieldy political influence of the former.

In fact, problems started when he hosted Queen Elizabeth II when She visited Nigeria in 1956. He was exiled to Azare after being dethroned in 1963. But Ahmadu Bello never contemplated balkanizing the Emirate.

Since the news broke of the speedy enactment of a law to balkanize the Emirate and the signing of same into law by the governor broke, more facts have emerged....See Details
