Yes the desert isn't useless if you can get water to it and there is water in the oceans then you need pipelines and desalination plants and a country like Niger would be able to support easily 200 million people but until that happens the land will not be able to support a large number of people.
Southern Nigeria and the North are almost at par in food production if you check properly. Land in the south produces more per square meter because they both depend mainly on rainfall which is more in the South If you check the value of what is produced, the south may be higher if cattle is not added and that is because of cash crops.

What Tinubu did to Nigeria economy is better described as Economic Strangulation, not Trabsformation.

When Tinubu brought the double-prunged ill-advised and IMF proposed Naira devaluation and subsidies removal, some of us argued that he was wrong. Rather than retrace his steps, the man dug himself deeper into Economic chaos, so much so that the already weakened Naira coukd no longer buy a roll of tissue paper.

In an effort to savage the situation, they have been subsidizing petrol in different guises, like price equalization, magical crude for debt financing, futures, etc. The government has been borrowing to dash governors to pay salaries. Today, the Total Federal revenue can only service about 60% of the national debts.

Credible estimates for 2026 cluster between 48% and 54%, though the number swings depending on what's counted.

The main figures:
IMF (Article IV, June 2026): interest payments will consume 53.7% of federal revenue in 2026, up from 53.2% in 2025 and 40.8% in 2024, easing slightly to 52.4% in 2027.

President Tinubu (May 2026): about $11.6 billion in debt servicing this year, close to half of projected revenue.

Federal Ministry of Finance reform scorecard (August 2026): about 50% for 2026, down from roughly 100% in 2022.

Budget Office MTEF data: a harsher read — annualising Jan–July 2025 figures gave revenue of ₦23.43 trillion against debt service of ₦16.26 trillion, or about 69%. The gap between those comes down to definitions. The IMF's 53.7% counts interest only; the MTEF-based 69% counts total debt service including principal repayments, and uses actual collections rather than budget projections. So the range is real, not contradictory.
