Eze Chima was a chief priest born in Aro in present day South East who paid homage to the Oba of Benin (just as others from various parts of the Country and beyond do up till this day).
He was even gifted lands by the Oba.
Eventually, had to exit after an issue with the Oba and Edos, and ultimately settled around where Agbor is.
Just a brief summary.

Igbo land did not reach Benin.

Maybe migrants and settlers such as Eze Chima.

The relationship between Agbor, Ika and Benin is that of conqueror and freedom from conquerors. Agbor and Ika in general are ancient Igbo settlements that existed as old as when Benin was founded as a Kingdom and later as an empire that ruled them at one time or the other but they always matched Bini fire for fire. Chima as the name indicates was an Igbo man in Benin empire which is not disputable. If you understand Ika language then you can listen to this loud declaration.

History/Origin of Agbor

Agbor is the biggest and the most cosmopolitan city of the lka nation. The historic origin of Agbor kingdom as we stated earlier has different angles. Some writers trace the origin of Agbor to the reign of Oba Ewedo of Benin. According to this perspective - the Oba had twin sons named Edo and Ogugunagbon. Both were subjected to a kind of lucky dip in order to pick a successor to Oba Ewedo. Ogugunagbon was unlucky to choose the wrong box and had to leave Benin with throng of his supporters to a new location leading to his founding of Agbor. However, Prince Adams Gbenoba in his book "The History and Culture of Agbor (Agbon) Kingdom" agrees with the Benin origin but adds another angle:

"Without doubt, beyond myths and legends by way of oral tradition, no accounts can be more authentic than the neutral, historical accounts of colonial travelers, explorers and administrators. Mr. J. Macrae-Simpson on page 5 of his "1935 INTELLIGENCE REPORT ON THE AGBOR CLAN IN THE AGBOR DISTRICT' recorded thus: "Talbet, on page 168 of Volume 1 of Southern Nigeria", quotes an extract from the chronicle of the Dutch historian-traveller Henrik Nyendael, which seems to be a description of the exodus from Benin of the founder of Agbor Clan: "After this barbarity, the King aIso found a third man that stood on his way, who, being universally beloved, was timely warned ...and accordingly took his flight, accompanied by three-fourths of the inhabitants of the town. The King caused the fugitives to be pursued.. Then the fugitives, thoroughly incensed and flushed, came directly to the City, which they plundered and pillaged, sparing no place but the King's Court; after which he returned, but incessantly continued to rob the inhabitants of Great Benin, till at last a peace was concluded ... He lives two or three days' journey from Benin, where he keeps at Agbor as great a Court and State as the King...".Talbet goes on to say that of the two families that left Benin at this time (shortly before Nyandael's visit in 1702), one settled at Agbor while the other went to Obior, another Clan in the Agbor District.

Of the same Obior family came also the ancestors of Onitsha-Mili (the Onitsha Waterside of today). It is a tradition of the Obior people, and indeed of most of the Clans between them and the Niger, and also of Onitsha itself, that their tribe was founded by Chima a refugee from Benin City...The story is that Chima?, when driven from Benin, traveled eastwards towards the Niger, which he eventually crossed, and settled in Onitsha. There he begat nine children, of which eight died, leaving him with a daughter called Owuwu. Believing that the loss of his children was caused by witchcraft, he left Onitsha and returning to Agbor, long existing country, settled at Osarra (present day Ozanogogo- previously called Ozarra- in Agbor Kingdom), where one of the quarters to this day bears the name of his sole remaining child, Owuwu.

Similarly Onyekpeze F. A, a foremost writer of lka history in his book ·An outline of the Culture & Socio-Economic Interest of the Ika Nation emphasizes this trend of the Benin factor in the formation of Agbor: One factor is that the place names of Agbor and Its outlying settlements are Bini words. Another factor which buttresses Agbor claim to Bini origin is that the villages in Agbor Town viz, lghogbe, Olihe, Ogbeisere, Ohumere, Ehaikpen, Ogbesogban and Ogbeiwaise, etc. are a replica of the villages in Benin City. In addition, even the lhogbes of Agbor like the lghogbes of Benin City, claim lfe origin and their ancestors are believed to have accompanied Prince Oromiyan from lfeto Benin to establish the present monarchy.

The Agbor titleship, Uzaman, lhaime, Odlonwere and Ehaivbo, and its system of government are similar to those of Benin. Furthermore, inAgbor's oral tradition, the king of Agborwas popularly known as Ogle Agbon, meaning the ruler of the whole world. The question which arises is, when did the title of the ruler of Agbor change from Ogle to Obi of Agbor? One can therefore acceptthe Bini oral tradition that the rulers of lka now called Obis were Ogies as other rulers or Chiefs or Oba's representatives in Benin Division. It may be that the rulers of lka, especially the ruler of Agbor regarded Ogle as belittling and wanted a more prestigious title, especially after successfully severing political relationship with Benin following the deportation of Oba Ovoramwen in 1898.

Despite these different views Agbor continues to wax stronger with a rich cultural heritage.

IAlisor, Alilehan and Ozanogogo speak Oza language of the edo people and not the lka language.

Government of Agbor

The monarchy rules the Agbor kingdom. The Dein is the king of Agbor kingdom. He is the supreme authority for the whole entire kingdom. Dein was the first ruler of Agbor .He reigned from 1270 to 1307 with his headquarters at Agbor-nta. However, the headquarters of the Agbor Kingdom has moved to different locations for a couple of times in order to maintain a modicum of impregnability and invincibility of the kingdom. The Dein was the commander in chief of the Agbor kingdom. Agbor warriors feared no foe. Their exploits are legendary and they maintained their territories with an iron fist. The Agbor kingdom founded outposts towns far away from the kingdom to protect itself from foreign invasions.

In the attempt to penalize them, Chima (OHIME), the ultimate founder of the Onitsha City-State, a Prince of the blood in his own right, led the recalcitrants against his Uncle, Gbunwala. This intensified the civil war which rent the kingdom of Benin in two and led to the founding of Onitsha Ado N'Idu, "As the great trek from Benin progressed, some did not have the stout heart of the pioneer-warrior, and decided to settle at different places, known today as Onitsha -Ugbo, Onitsha-Olona, Onitsha-Mili, Obior, Issele Ukwu, Ossomari, Aboh, etc.

All Edo lead names in the Delta and Anambra states can trace their origin back to Benin. Ask them.

Ukwuani People of Anioma.

Ụkwụànì people (also called Ndokwa). Ndokwa is coined from Ndosumili and Ukwuani, the two groups that make up the Ndokwa people.) are one of the tribes in the Southern part of Nigeria in the Western part of the Niger Delta. They are found majorly in the Northern part of Delta State and in some parts of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Ukwuani is the second largest ethnic nationality in Delta state after the Urhobo people. It is also the largest in Delta North region which is referred to as Anioma. Ndokwa Land consists of three Local Government Areas: (Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, and Ukwuani). There over three dozens of towns and villages in Ndokwa.

The three most popular ones are Kwale, Aboh and Obiaruku. Ukwuani land lies between latitudes 50 481 N and 50 601 N and longitudes 60 081 E and 60 321 E of Delta State. It has common boundaries in the North with Ika South and Aniocha South Local Government Areas. Isoko South
and Isoko North bound it in the south while it also has a common boundary with Ughelli North and Ethiope East Local Government Areas and Edo State as well as River Niger in the west and east, respectively. The important rivers in the region are Niger, Ethiope, Adofi, and Umu while the Ase creek is the major creek.

This assertion of aseparate identity for Ukwuani vis-à-vis Igbo, strikes at a very important note in matters of ethnicity generally and the subject in Nigeria in particular. The Ukwuanis are said to share a common ancestry with the Ogba, Ekpeye, and Ika people as majority trace their origin to the Benin kingdom. Ndokwa land is made of so many sub-groups including Umu-Akashiada, Ndoshimili- Ndoni, and Utagba people which is the largest of all. Ukwuani people speak Ukwuani language, a branch of the Volta- Niger language family with varying dialects within the Ndosumili-Aboh area. The one spoken by the majority of the people which is regarded the standard dialect is the Utagba dialect. It is easily understood by the speaker of the other dialects and it is the dialect that is used for Ukwuani language studies. Ukwuani language is also included in the list of 27 Nigerian languages approved by the Federal Government for the purpose of "mother tongue education".

The Ukwuani culture is related to several culture in the Niger-delta but have more social and cultural affinities to the Igbo speaking people of Nigeria. Ndokwa play host to several multinational oil companies such as Agip, Platform, Midwestern, and Sterling global oil companies, etc. Despite its contribution to the wealth of the Nation, the Ndokwa people like nearly other ethnic minorities of the Niger delta region
frequently complain of marginalization which makes it an underdeveloped ethnic nationality. Despite this the Ndokwa people have been very peaceful. All the youth restiveness in the Niger Delta was approached peacefully by them.

Origin
The Ukwuani people also belongs to those groups whose history was largely undocumented but from the varying accounts of the elders, three waves of migration appeared to account for present population of the Ukwuani people. <Okolugbo2004,page2> stated that the first wave are represented by the clans who claimed to have migrated from Benin Kingdom. Some of these clans include Umu-akashiada, Ebedei, and Akarai. The second waves of independent settlers are those whose ancestors migrated from Eastern Nigeria. The clans in this group settled along the bank of the River Niger and they include Umu-obarauchi, Ndoni, Onya, and Adawai. A third wave is in the form of a well organised expedition of Edo conquerors and some of this group include, Aboh, Amai, Umukwata <Okolugbo 2004,page3>. Ogbe-ani in Utagba-uno clan also claimed to migrate from acient Benin Kingdom. <Okolugbo 2004,page 4> stated that apart from these three waves of immigration, there are also mixed eastern and western Igbo origin, Edo immigrants.

Colonial History of Ndokwa
The colonial history of Ndokwa people began in 1905 with the formal establishment of colonial administrative office in Kwale. It was then known as Aboh Native Authority and later renamed Aboh Division in 1952 with headquarter in Kwale. In 1976, there was Local Government reforms and Aboh Division became Ndokwa Local Government with headquarters still in Kwale. The name Ndokwa was formed from two words; Ndoshimili and Ukwuani. They signify the two major districts of Aboh Division. Following the 1991 and 1997 Local Government creations embarked upon by the Military led Government, Ndokwa came under three Local Government Areas (LGAs) namely; Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani with headquarters in Aboh, Kwale and Obiaruku respectively.

The three LGAs speak Ukwuani language and are known and recognized as distinct ethnic nationalities since pre-colonial times. In the last century, something incredible occurred in the annals of human history. The Juxtaposition of nations, cultures and peoples found an expression in the name: NIGERIA when Lord Lugard amalgamated its Northern and Southern Protectorates. Ndokwa people were a part of the nations in the Southern protectorate. Although it included the great Aboh Kingdom which, arguably, was the greatest naval force on the Niger Delta Coast for close to a century before the arrival of the Europeans, the people were subjected to British rule and would later be ruled as part of the Western region -one of the two regions carved out of the Southern protectorates.

By 1963, Mid- west region was created to include Ndokwa Land and other Non-Yoruba speaking parts of western region. Ndokwa people remained as part of Mid-West region until Ndoni people were carved out from Aboh Division to join parts of the old Eastern region to form Rivers State in May of 1967 as part of a new 12 State Federal Structure. The rest of Ndokwa Land remained in the Mid-west which was now renamed Bendel State, fusing the first three letters from the Benin Province with the first three letters of Delta Province. Ndokwa remained as part of the Mid-west Bendel configuration for 28 years until the creation of Delta State in 1991.

Society and the arts Indigenous arts include basket weaving, metalwork and sculpture (known as Okpu- Uzo). The Ụkwụànì are also widely known for their music. Their music is one of the main influences they have had over their neighbors, many of whom have adopted Ụkwụànì music as their own traditional music.

It is also in Jacob Egherevba's book "A short History of Benin"

Jacob Egherevba was a Benin high Chief he too confirmed that it was from Ile Ife that the first Ogiso Obagodo came

Benin people have condemned Egherevba for what he postulated in his book. They accused him of being heavily influenced by his Ado-Akure heritage. It is on record that shortly before he died he renounced the view point in his book following evidence provided him by Benin historians.

https://www.nairaland.com/7842286/igbo-soldiers-plotted-coup-independence#125818602

Major General David Ejoor, Midwest Governor.

The Igbos wanted to rule. Why they wanted to rule was that (Nnamdi) Azikiwe was the then Governor-General and more or less Head of State. The constitution did not give any power to Azikiwe. So, this annoyed the Igbo people and they used to say: “How can we run a constitution in which the Head of State cannot advise the government, the government cannot contact the Head of State for any advice?” So, the answer was well to take over since they were already leading and yet they had no control over the government. That was why the Igbo soldiers decided to organise a coup.

The civil war was straightforward. the Igbo wanted to take over the ruling of Nigeria . When all these cunny-cunny actions that people who were preventing them from organising a coup had not been killed, that is Gowon and I, the only thing left was to have a civil war. That was why there was a civil war and in the civil war, the first place Ojukwu attacked was the Mid-West. The Igbo tried to rule Nigeria by force, what they cannot do through the ballot box; they tried it through coup. They tried the coup, it failed and now decided to do a civil war. It was a contract. That is the basic thing.

Igbos/Ibos/Eboes were banished out of the West of the Niger River and quarantined into the remote forest (Igbo) East because they refused to give up cannibalism.
