There are good policemen on the road all over Nigeria but the bad ones are greater in number.In 2010 or 2011, I and my friend went to seme border with my friends Mercedes Benz 200 to tow a faulty car Renault something cdi to Lagos for repair, the owner of the car was an assistant director in Benin ministry of sports a beninoise and he is related to my friend some how,before we embark on that journey,the car owner has secured some documents from seme border indicating that the car is going to Nigeria for repair and will be returned to contounu before 2 weeks or 1 month and he deposited his travelling document with custom benin side,we left satellite town arround after 5 in the evening and we got to seme border around 8:00 pm because we stopped along the road, we were delaying so that road will not be too busy for us when coming back. Then around 10:00 pm we left seme border I think we met some customs or police and they let us go after checking the Renault car documents and the custom documents from seme border,then when we got to one custom checking point they seized the Renault and told us that the car will be moved to ikeja that night as a stolen car,we should go to ikeja command and ask of one name and department which I cannot remember or they gave us a paper to go to ikeja command,we started pleading with them, they even threatened to shoot us,after much pleading we left and as we approached toll gate we saw policemen and we decided to tell them about the issue with custom ,we did not believe what the leader of the team did immediately ,he told my friend to enter their pick up he drove to custom checking point to help us release the car,when they released the car to him they towed the Renault to toll gate and he told us to pass the night with them that it is very late to go back to satellite then we asked him how much are we going to give him for the help rendered but he told us to keep our money that they are doing their job. The help did not end there, very early in the morning they escorted us from toll gate to the last customs checking point very close to okokomaiko and we tried to give them money they refused.i regreted not writing down the officers name somewhere.
