strongtech2: I never studied sculpture, engineering or architecture. In fact, after college I applied to seven art schools and was rejected by all seven. Janet Echelman Art, Fact, College I went to college because my father thought that I should learn engineering, because he wanted to go into the heating business with me. There, I realized I wanted to be a physicist. I had to tell him, which was a somewhat traumatic experience. Leonard Susskind Business, Experience, Father I do quite like Gehry's Guggenheim. But where in Bilbao it's seen as an outgrowth of years of investment in urban design and engineering, in Britain it's seen as the catalyst for urban regeneration rather than the icing on the cake.
