Liquid Leakage
One of the most difficult disperse physical threats in a server room & data center to monitor is liquid leaks. The leaks are most likely to be either water or coolant. This can damage floors, cabling, and equipment. It can also be an indication of CRAC, HVAC problems. The best way to monitor for leaks includes; rope leak sensors and spot leak sensors.

These lesser known threats can cause just as much downtime as the more common threats. A minimum level of monitoring for physical threats is never adequate for identifying and preventing dispersed physical threats in a data center. The best data centers utilize a variety of additional sensors and monitoring technique to protect themselves from these threats. Since physical threats are distributed throughout the data center, the local of sensor will vary based upon the room layout and equipment positioning.


Water Leak Sensor
Moisture and humidity sensors should monitor for leaks inside cooling equipment, potential leaks that come from nearby pipes, or water caused by a flood or disaster. Water sensors should be placed at the lowest point (wherever water would tend to puddle) on the floor, and underneath any pipe junctions. Air-conditioning condensation trays should also be equipped with sensors to detect overflow.
