The Senate has warned the suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to desist from forcefully resuming her legislative duties on Tuesday. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, gave the warning in a statement issued on Sunday. While insisting that no valid court order mandated her immediate recall, Adaramodu said the Senate remained committed to due process and the rule of law. He said, “The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to reaffirm, for the third time, that there is no subsisting court order mandating the Senate to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan before the expiration of her suspension.” The clarification followed media reports quoting the embattled lawmaker as saying she would return to the Senate on Tuesday, allegedly based on a judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja. However, Adaramodu said the Senate had previously issued two public statements after the court ruling and the release of the Certified True Copy of the enrolled order, making it clear that no positive or mandatory directive was issued against the Senate regarding her recall. “Rather, the honourable court gave a non-binding advisory urging the Senate to consider amending its standing orders and reviewing the suspension, which it opined might be excessive. “The court, however, explicitly held that the Senate did not breach any law or constitutional provision in imposing the disciplinary measure based on the senator’s misconduct during plenary,” he said. The Senate further noted that the same court found Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt and imposed penalties, including a N5m fine payable to the Federal Government and a mandatory apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page — a directive that has reportedly not been complied with. “It is, therefore, surprising and legally untenable that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, while on appeal and having filed a motion for stay against the valid and binding orders made against her, is attempting to act upon an imaginary order of recall that does not exist,” the Senate spokesman added. He warned that any move by the suspended lawmaker to “storm the Senate next Tuesday under a false pretext would be premature, disruptive, and a breach of legislative order. “The Senate will, at the appropriate time, consider the advisory opinion of the court on both amending the standing orders of the Senate, her recall, and communicate the same thereof to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. “Until then, she is respectfully advised to stay away from the Senate chambers and allow due process to run its full course,” the statement concluded. |
ABUJA—African Democratic Congress, ADC, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for failing to appoint ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, warning that the continued delay was damaging the country’s global image and weakening its international relations. In a statement released by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, yesterday, ADC said it was deeply concerned that for more than two years, Nigeria has had no ambassadors representing it abroad. The party described the situation as ‘embarrassing’ and warned it could lead to other countries downgrading their diplomatic ties with Nigeria. “Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recalled all 109 ambassadors in 2023, none has been replaced. This has left Nigeria without proper representation at global forums where key decisions that affect our country and citizens are made,” the statement read. The ADC pointed out that the absence of ambassadors had already worsened visa and consular issues, especially with countries such as the United States and the United Arab Emirates, UAE. The party argued that lower-ranking diplomats or chargé d’affaires could not adequately represent Nigeria’s interests, as they do not have the same level of access or recognition as full ambassadors. “This government’s failure to appoint ambassadors has seriously affected the quality of our relationships with countries hosting Nigerian missions. If this continues, other countries may also reduce their level of representation in Nigeria,” Abdullahi added. The ADC also accused the Tinubu administration of lacking urgency and direction on the issue, noting that Nigeria was being left out of important discussions on economic cooperation, trade and international partnerships. The party said: “While other nations are busy forming alliances, signing trade deals, and securing investment agreements, Nigeria is missing from the table because we have no high-level diplomats abroad.’’ The ADC further criticised the government’s handling of a recent diplomatic incident involving a U.S. request for Nigeria to accept deported Venezuelans, describing the response by the foreign affairs minister, delivered on live television, as careless and inappropriate. “While we support the government’s stand on this issue, we are shocked that such a sensitive matter was discussed openly on a prime-time TV show. Communications with a powerful ally like the United States should be handled with more care and diplomacy,” the party said. It called on President Tinubu to immediately appoint ambassadors to end the growing embarrassment and avoid further damage to Nigeria’s foreign policy. “The President must act now and appoint ambassadors to protect Nigeria’s interests and reputation abroad,” the party warned. |
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has been discharged after being involved in a minor road accident on Sunday evening along the Daura–Katsina road. The update was confirmed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, who noted that Radda is in good health and high spirits. Bashir Ahmed, former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, also corroborated the news, citing information from the Katsina Local Government Area chairman. Following the incident, Governor Radda expressed gratitude to the people of Katsina State and Nigerians at large for their prayers and concern. In a short live video address from his residence on Sunday, the governor said: “Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Dear brothers and sisters of Katsina State and beyond, we are deeply grateful for all your prayers and concern. By the will of Allah, we were tested with a car accident—but Alhamdulillah, we came out safe and unharmed.” The governor was briefly placed under medical observation as a precaution but has since resumed normal activities. |
Factcheck0001:everyone knows that Aregbesola has lost relevance in Osun politics. he lived in Lagos his entire life, his political journey started from Lagos and it will end there. Even after his tenure as governor, he relocated to lagos, how do you expect someone like that to hold ground. the man nah delulu |
OSOGBO— AS the political situation in Osun State becomes more uncertain over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s rumoured defection, sources have revealed that the governor is negotiating with top All Progressives Congress, APC, politicians to actualise his defection. Also, the recent defection of two Osun State senators from the PDP to the APC has heightened the rumoured defection of Governor Adeleke, as sources described the movement of the senators as an advance party for the governor. However, it was gathered that some top APC officials, leading the negotiations, have hit a brick wall as the Osun APC group is hellbent on not allowing the governor to join the party. An APC chieftain, Mr Remi Omowaiye, told Vanguard that though the governor has the right to join the party, he ought to have followed the right channel rather than defecting on social media. “For me, the governor’s rumoured defection remains within the space of social media. If the governor wants to join the APC, there are proper channels he should follow. He would speak with the leadership of the party in the state; as of today, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, remains the party leader. I am not aware of any discussion or that the governor has reached out to him. “You can’t join the party through the back door, or some governors in other states. “Also, our concern is that the governor has a lot of baggage with him. He has not done well. He sacked teachers without replacing them, he sacked health workers without replacement, he is building sub-standard roads and bridges, we have asked for the designs of the bridges, but till now, they have not been able to present them to us. What do we tell the people when he brings his baggage? “I can also assure you that the party is stronger now than before.” When contacted, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who pleaded anonymity, confided in Vanguard that Adeleke’s camp is progressing quite well with the negotiations. The party source lamented over the reluctance from the Osun APC camp, especially Oyetola’s camp, to embrace the negotiations. “The governor is playing his part to progress with the talk. I can tell you for free that the governor’s camp is talking well with the Abuja APC camp, and the talk is ongoing; it is just surprising that the Minister’s team is dragging its feet on the matter. “What is certain is that the governor is discussing and wants to ensure that he gets the party ticket automatically. He is very popular with the people in the state and he is willing to ensure President Bola Tinubu gets re-elected in 2027”, the source said Meanwhile, a source close to the APC Secretariat in Abuja said Adeleke’s negotiation has hit a brick wall in Abuja, hence, he was told to return for negotiations. The APC source said: “The defection of Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi has nothing to do with the Governor Ademola Adeleke team. The two senators went to negotiate their fate separately since Adeleke’s camp did not inform them of their intention to join the party. So, the Senators’ movement is not in any way an advance team for the governor. “Presently, it is only the President and Oyetola who can give specific direction for the negotiation. From the look of things, the governor may remain in the PDP for the 2026 governorship election except the national leadership of the APC intervenes in the matter”, said the source. |
AMINDA:you are delulu, the same 12m followers that couldn't help him secure Aso rock when he was in CPC and he lost 3 times but until he merge with APC that brings him to spotlight and still rig for him. una go just dey cap nonsense |
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, claims Peter Obi is already considering a move out of the ADC. Earlier in July, Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, joined other opposition politicians to launch the ADC as a coalition party to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Barely two days after the launch, Obi announced his 2027 presidential ambition, while still holding the LP membership card. But Kachikwu believes Obi won’t be allowed to run for presidency on the ADC platform. According to him, the ADC structure is being packaged for Atiku’s presidential ambition. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the ADC chieftain, who has been accusing opposition politicians , including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of hijacking his party, claimed that Obi is set to leave the coalition, having realised that the ADC is set up to favour Atiku. He said: “The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Since I started warning people about what is happening, we can see what is happening within the coalition. Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaed for Atiku Ababakar. From our understanding, what we are seeing now is that he is looking in other directions, and other people who aspire to run now realise that the coalition was indeed no coalition. It was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition.” Kachikwu insisted that the ADC will not be used for Atiku’s presidential ambition, adding that the 2027 election will not give room for what he called ‘class exploitation’ by political leaders. He vowed to work against the politicians by ensuring that Nigerians are informed and educated about their political power as citizens. |
Lmao love for football was legendary! no wonder super eagles dey always lose anytime he wished them. |

Kelklein:I'm not supporting impositions right, I'm only trying to clarify that when it comes to grassroot or local government elections, as a sitting governor, it's a s!ap on your face if you can't mobilize your part to win all the seats irrespective of the candidates. |
franchasofficia:too much story and talk, yet very irrelevant. wake up chief |
MartinCorridon:you sabi ball actually, most people don't want to put sentiment and emotions aside. They just think that's how it will work. Tinubu has all forces against him in 2023 and yet he won the election, now that he has all Nigeria resources at his disposal, they think he can be demoted easily. Jonathan like peace 🕊️, Tinubu is a strategist that has been in the game for long and he can sacrifice anyone to win. Even the so called coalition knows this but they just want to try their luck 🤞 |
Chochocho:Even Tinubu that is still living has more than 5 monuments renamed after him: Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu Complex (National Library Complex) Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, Abuja Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC). |
Chochocho:Moshood Abiola National Stadium (Abuja MKO Abiola Stadium (Abeokuta) Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Abeokuta) University of Lagos would have been renamed Moshood Abiola University by Jonathan Administration if not of the outburst by the public and students, so rest. |
Kelklein:That's why it's called grassroot election, it will be a shame and big slap on Tinubu and his cohorts if they can't sweep their Grassroots eoection. That shows they still have a strong hold at home. and it happens everywhere, you don't expect APC winning where there's a PDP governor, this shows the Governor is use!ess. Also it's a way for Sanwoolu to redeem himself after the bruhaha that happened during general election |
wo all the best to them wetin we go chop this morning abeg |
