superman in man of steel loves destruction. Let me give you 5 examples.
1. When he destroyed that guy's truck for no reason.

Because superman was fighting zod (one entity) while the avengers were fighting Loki and his army ( many entities)

Superman had multiple opportunities to carry zod to a safe location e.g when he was on his knees crying, when they was both inside the plane superman destroyed.
