Two old men were qualified for the job; both considered very wise men in the town. So the king decided to put them to test. One day, the king summoned them to a town meeting, he ordered a cow killed, two of its legs cut and each man be given one leg. He told them to take it home and bring it back in seven days still as fresh and bloody as it was when it was cut from the cow’s body. The men looked downhearted, it was an impossible task but........ I bet you never know that the original word for wife in Yoruba language is AYA and not IYAWO? I thought as much, although Iyawo is commonly used nowadays than the former. The Throne Media will take you through the widely accepted story of how the term Iyawo came about: A very long ago in Yoruba land, a beautiful princess and daughter of the first king of Iwo town named Wuraola was in the quest of getting herself a well groomed, reserved and cultured husband. Strong, rich, intelligent and good looking men who later became Yoruba deities like Sango, Ogun, and other known male deities went to Iwo to seek her hand in marriage. Wura she hurled insults and curses at them all. She was very rude and uncultured. She displayed the worst character one can think of unto all her suitors and regardless of her remarkable and unique beauty every one of them failed to accomplish their mission of marrying her so they abandoned their mission on their very first day. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and a representative of the Yoruba Unity Forum, Chief Dipo Jemileyin, have called for the restructuring of Nigeria’s federal structure in line with the country’s peculiar circumstances. They spoke during the ongoing 3rd Annual National Summit with the theme, “Reforming the Nigeria Federation Which Way Forward,” organised by Save Democracy Africa in Abuja on Monday. This is even as a former President of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, expressed his confidence that “Nigeria has what it takes to deal with its internal issues and uphold the promise of the black race.” He also said a deliberate policy by Tanzania’s founding fathers ensured that ethnic tensions which led several African nations to civil war were kept at bay. Dogara, who was represented by Edward Pwajok, called for a proper audit and restructuring of our existing federal system to give a sense of belonging to all Nigerians. According to him, in order for Nigeria to achieve true federalism, a unique system of federalism which takes into account our local circumstances should be created. This, he said, should be complemented by visionary, selfless, prudent, intelligent and indefatigable leaders who could uphold the virtues of integrity and honour. The Jama’atu Nasril Islam under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has asked the President Muhammadu administration to wake up to its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property of Nigerians across the country.
