Police Deny Receiving Report on UPND Attack

The Zambia Police Service has responded to allegations that the UPND campaign team in Lusaka was attacked by suspected PF cadres whilst doing their campaigns. “Police Deny Receiving Report on UPND Attack”.

Responding to numerous queries in the Zambi Police WhatsApp group, Police spokeswoman, Esther Katongo, said that Woodlands Police Station has not received any such report.

“We wish to state that Police at Woodlands have not received any report suggesting that the UPND Mayoral candidate Mr Kangwa Chileshe was attacked last night,” Katongo said.

She instead indicated that UPND Chairperson, for Elections, Sylvia Masebo reported a case of being trailed by suspected PF Cadres.

“The only report received by the station was from Ms Silvia Masebo who went to the station to report that they had spotted four Land cruisers moving around on Burma road near a house where the UPND were distributing their campaign materials and that they suspected the same people to be members of the Patriotic Front” stated Katongo.

She said that Police Officers rushed to the same area and did not find anyone at the said place.

“If the UPND Mayarol candidate was attacked, then may we be informed on where the matter was reported” demanded Katongo.

A 54 year old man of Katete district has committed suicide by taking doom after picking up a quarrel with his wife. “Katete Man Commits Suicide after Quarreling with Wife”.

Katete District police officer in-charge Christopher Sibande said that the deceased killed himself on Sunday.


Sibande said when police visited the scene at Keni village they found an empty bottle of doom and cup.

He said the body of the deceased was taken to St Francis Mission Hospital for a post-mortem before burial.

Ingredients

Medium or even short grain rice (must be soft)
Water – should be enough quantity to prepare the food

Preparation

(1) You just need to take a pan where you are going to prepare the rice and fill it with enough water. The water should cover the whole quantity of rice. Place the pot on medium heat.

(2) At the time when the first portion of water is dried up, you can check the quality of it by mashing the pieces between fingers. If the rice has even the slightest resistance, then you will need to cook it once more.

(3) If the rice is good, you will need to reduce the heat and add some more water.

(4) Once you are happy with how warm and melted the rice is, you can mash it with a spatula. You will need to move the rice from the far end to the sides to mash it.

(5) Take the mound of tuwo and fold it into the rice. Repeat the process until the tuwo is combined with rice.

(6) You will need to leave it for at least two minutes to cool down.

(7) Mix everything thoroughly and get the rice into balls and then into the plastic to prevent tuwo from drying up.

Just hours after Lagos tanker inferno, another one explodes in Suleja
Less than 24 hours after fire outbreak at Otedola Bridge, Lagos, claimed nine lives; with four injured and 54 vehicles burnt another fire accident occurred at along Minna-Suleja Road, Niger state, involving a truck and a fuel tanker. “5 injured as trailer, fuel tanker collide in Suleja-Minna”.

The Punch reports that five people were on Friday, June 29, confirmed injured in the head-on collision between the fuel tanker and the trailer.

– The incident occurred on Friday, June 29, at Malankaro, along Minna-Suleja Road, Niger state

He added that the trailer had no visible number plate, while the fuel tanker was loaded with Kerosene, a highly flammable material.

Three simple eggplant recipes appropriate for babies
Eggplants can be introduced into your baby’s diet as early as at 8-10 months. You can steam them, sauté them or make them into puree — as long as it is thoroughly cooked and soft, it should be safe for the child to eat. Eggplant puree
This recipe is incredibly simple, as the only ingredient you are going to need is, you guessed it, an eggplant. Wash it and peel of its skin. The result will be the same.

Then put the cooked eggplant in a bowl and mash it into it gets to the puree consistency. If it is too thick, add a little water (better to use boiled water). When it is smooth enough, make sure it has cooled to appropriate temperature and then serve it to your baby.

If you want to add a little bit more fun to the mealtime, you can skip the pureeing part and give your child steamed eggplant cubes to eat as finger food. Just do not give your baby the eggplant straight from the oven/cooker.

Plateau residents flee affected communities after killings
Following incessant killings and attacks in Plateau state residents have abandoned their homes seeking refuge in nearby villages perceived to be safe, Channels TV. “Plateau residents flee affected communities after killings”.

Residents, mostly women and children in Gashish District on Monday, June 25, left their homes following Saturday’s killings in search of safety in the Barkin Ladin local government secretariat.

$25m District Hospital Is 6-Times Actual Cost
Government’s Economic Management team has discovered the nation may be paying up to six times the actual cost of building district hospitals. “$25m District Hospital Is 6-Times Actual Cost”.

The country is currently spending $25 million to construct 60-80 bed district hospitals at a time whlle the African Development Bank is constructing 150-bed capacity hospitals in Accra at only $1.3 million.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia revealed this at procurement conference in Accra Monday.

His comments come at a time when some hospitals in Ghana are said to have been abandoned after they were constructed by the erstwhile NDC government.

At least 11 hospitals were constructed between 2014-2017 as part of an integrated road project.

The facilities are yet to be equipped and to become fully operational.

But the vice president said the cost at which some of these facilities were built is mind-boggling.
Even more distressing, he added was the fact that these hospitals are yet to be equipped and most of the equipment will be procured without the necessary taxes, which is a loss to the state.

Ground habanero/cayenne pepper *
Four tablespoons of ground crayfish *
Two flavour cubes (Maggi/Knorr) AND/OR Castor seed paste (Ogiri Igbo) *
Two teaspoons of Calabash Nutmeg (ground Ehu seeds)
Garden eggs and leaves * (you can replace the leaves with spinach)
Three fresh Utazi leaves
Kanda/Ponmo (cow skin)
Salt (to taste, but not too much)

As you can see, there are quite a lot of ingredients, but you really do not have to use them all. However, in order for your dish to really be the true Igbo Abacha, you absolutely have to use the ingredients marked with a star. The rest will certainly make your dish taste better, but the recipe will not suffer significantly if you do not have the unmarked ingredients at your disposal.

Mimiko – In yet another transfer season

The decision of immediate past governor of Ondo State to return to the very political party that catapulted him to the governorship raises the big question of ideological bent. It goes beyond what Mimiko wants. It is more about what lessons he wants to impart to his followers. “Mimiko – In yet another transfer season”.

However, without prejudice to the extenuating circumstances within the fold of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which seem to have predicated Iroko’s backward defection like a political prodigal, it is necessary to re-examine the political calculations that have propelled him.

Move Dictated By Closeness To Jonathan

DR. Olusegun Mimiko was one of the governors in peripheral parties that were so close to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The curious arithmetic spewed forth by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) showed that the President needed to firm up his support base preparatory to a possible Presidential primary in PDP.

Although not expressly stated, part of the nagging issues that precipitated the leadership crisis in PDP in 2013 was the incumbent President’s interesåt in seeking a second term in office. Jonathan’s handlers were said to have developed a backup plan, which was to prepare for a primary election in the event that the right of first refusal gambit failed.

That line of reasoning was said to have informed the defection of Mimiko from Labour Party and Mr. Peter Obi from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The expectation then within the Jonathan circles was that should any of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governors Sule Lamido and Rabiu Kwankwaso or Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, be put forward by the northern caucus to contest the presidential ticket, Jonathan could fall back on the two friendly governors to supply the super delegates to tip the balance.

Stimulated by those exciting possibilities, Mimiko careered into PDP and disrupted the internal poise and structure of PDP in Ondo. Expectedly the existing leadership in place kicked, wondering why the then governor and his supporters should not join the party without a wholesale deconstruction of the leadership in place.

It was unthinkable. Despite every effort made by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to deliver a seamless transition through its second elective national convention, the fisticuffs that characterized the exercise showed that the center refused to hold for the ruling party. It was as if everything was made to fall out of place. “Convention friction counters APC progress”.

Beginning of trouble
There was nothing reflective of the much-vaunted change, the party sold to Nigerians in 2015. It all started with the single handed imposition of the immediate past Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by President Muhammadu Buhari, which was clearly against the designs of most state governors of APC.If the President were a born-again democrat, as he claimed or on the same page with the governors the issue of the botched tenure elongation would not have arisen. The overall impression created by the tenure elongation confusion showed that not many of the party chieftain approved of the President’s second term ambition.

But, as the convention drew closer it became more apparent that APC did not do its homework well to craft a truly political platform in which its constitution was the supreme authority. It is obvious that the thrashing of APC Constitution started with the President, who left nobody in doubt that it was Oshiomhole or nobody.The chairman of APC Governors’ Forum and Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, followed suit by toying with the idea of emasculating the party structure in his state. As it turned out, Okorocha attempted to impose his son in-law on Imo people as his successor and the bubble burst.

Imo State dominated media mention by the tough resistance the APC stakeholders waged against Okorocha, which was later to engulf the entire Southeast geopolitical zone. PDP asks Fayemi to account for N16.7b revenue
Ex-gov faults successor’s claim on Paris Club loan refunds
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked former Governor Kayode Fayemi to account for N16.7 billion, being the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which he allegedly made from 2010 to 2014. “PDP asks Fayemi to account for N16.7b revenue”.

The PDP state Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, who made the call yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, said the explanation became necessary following Fayemi’s claim that his administration generated an average of N600 million monthly.

According to the PDP chairman, the implication was that Fayemi’s administration generated N7.2 billion yearly.He added that the figures that his administration gave to the National Bureau of Statistics, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation among others, did not however, tally with Fayemi’s claim.The chairman said: “Records in the above offices showed that in 2011, the IGR of the state was N2.5 billion, which translated to about N207 million monthly.

This, according to his claim, leaves a balance of N4.7 billion.He urged Fayemi to tell Ekiti people where the remaining funds are, since he claimed that he raised the state’s IGR to N600 million monthly, amounting to about N7.2 billion in a year.“The total balance yet to be accounted for, going by Fayemi’s claim, is N16.7 billion in four years,” he said. Oguntuase explained that Governor Ayodele Fayose’s administration has displayed transparency since its inception, unlike the All Progressives Congress APC).

He said: “In 2015, Fayose’s administration “generated N3.3 billion, which amounted to an average of N283 monthly. In 2016, it was N2.9 billion, at an average of N241 million monthly.” Oguntuase said the PDP has nothing to hide, explaining that the state’s revenue further increased to N3.8 billion in 2017, at an average of N306 million monthly. Meanwhile, the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has debunked Fayose’s claim that the Federal Government was deliberately delaying the disbursement of Paris Club loan refunds to starve Ekiti..

UN experts call on US to release migrant children
GENEVA – UN experts on Friday called on the U.S. to release migrant children from detention and stop using them to deter irregular migration. “UN experts call on US to release migrant children”.

“The executive order signed by the US president on 20th June 2018 fails to address the situation of thousands of migrant children forcibly separated from their parents and held in detention at the border,” UN experts said in a statement.

The experts — including Felipe Gonzalez Morales, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants; Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Special Rapporteur on the sale and sexual exploitation of children; Nils Melzer, Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and others — issued a joint statement over the issue.

“This executive order does not address the situation of those children who have already been pulled away from their parents,” they said.

“We call on the Government of the US to release these children from immigration detention and to reunite them with their families based on the best interests of the child, and the rights of the child to liberty and family unity,” the experts said.

Noting that detention of children is “punitive” and may amount to “torture,” the experts said: “Children are being used as a deterrent to irregular migration, which is unacceptable.”

“There are also legitimate fears that some children may never be reunited with their parents as they are sent to different parts of the United States while their parents may have been deported,” the experts warned.

On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting his administration’s practice of separating undocumented parents suspected of crossing the border illegally from their children.

It is unclear what will become of the over 2,000 children who have already been taken from their parents...
