Amidst the chaos and pandemonium that ensued when a guest-house at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) suddenly collapsed in the early afternoon of Saturday 12th September 2014, tales of miraculous survival have begun to emerge. “Thank You, Jesus”, a cry rang out from an onlooker, followed by a burst of relieved applause from the crowd of church helpers and rescue workers. They had been working non-stop since the giant building was reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds the previous day. From a tiny hole at the far side of the wreckage, a body was being brought out. “She’s alive,” a man beside me reassured. Straining to look closer, I saw the woman, who was being stretchered toward an awaiting ambulance, waving her hands. “God of T.B. Joshua, you are wonderful,” the rescued lady exclaimed, her voice extraordinarily strong. She had been in the dark, under the rubble for over 24 hours. “Bros,” I overheard a worker confiding in his colleague, “if not for God, no one should be brought out alive from there.” It was hard to disagree with his sentiment looking at the mangled remains of what was a six-storey building nearing completion. “They’ve found another one,” a cry excitedly broke my musing, another cheer reverberating among onlookers. Despite the tragedy, the spirit of camaraderie was warming to behold. A small child was being brought out of the wreckage alive. “Wait,” one of the rescue team cautioned. “Her mother is still inside.” Moments later, mother and daughter were reunited. “One thing you have to understand,” an official of Nigeria’s Emergency Management Association (NEMA) official told me on the condition of anonymity, “90% of those being rescued were eating or working the bottom floor of the building when it collapsed.” He shook his head in disbelief. “How they survived beats my imagination.” “The situation could have turned out much worse,” another member of the rescue team named Sunday corroborated. “If not for God, we could be talking of over 100 fatalities.” I made my way toward one of the ambulances preparing to leave, hoping to catch a glimpse of another survivor. A man in his late 40s lay there, wet with sweat, bruised and breathing heavily. The discussion I overhead was poignant. “Was I really in that building,” he faintly questioned the nurse as she held his hand. “Thank your God,” she quietly replied. “We should call your name miracle.” During a three-hour visit to The SCOAN, I witnessed no fewer than 30 people brought out of the wreckage through the concerted efforts of the rescue teams. All were alive. Ihechukwu Njoku – freelance Nigerian journalist who visited the scene of the tragic incident at The SCOAN in Lagos NB – NEMA officials stated that over 120 people were rescued alive from the rubble with 17 deaths recorded but I was unable to independently verify these claims. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/miracles-around-amidst-synagogue-tragedypictures/

Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko yesterday denied report linking him to a move to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mimiko said he remained in the Labour Party (LP). The governor, who spoke at the LP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, described the report as a rumour. “All the reports you hear or read are mere rumours and I cannot react to rumours. As you can see, I am here today to attend the LP NEC meeting. I will also be in Akure on October 4 when we will host the party’s third national convention,” Mimiko said. The party’s National Chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu, said he would step down as the party’s chairman. Nwanyanwu said he will not present himself for re-election at the party’s next convention which is slated for Akure on October 4. He said having played his part; it would not make any sense for him to remain as the chairman. Reading the communiqué at the end of the meeting, Nwanyanwu thanked the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for working with the party leadership to promote and consolidate its ideas. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/mimiko-im-still-in-lp/

Today, I am writing on the sure ways to know you clearly live above your income (ie if you have any) or your means. I am writing on this because from everyday observations and interactions, I have discovered that most people especially the youths actually consume more than they earn. The ones with the least income are the ones who consume the most. Don’t get me wrong dear, I know its your life and you can do whatever it is you like and I am not judging you too but we all need a sense of direction at some point in our lives… Yes we all do because no one knows it all! I want to ask you a question, and I need an answer! IS LIVING ABOVE YOUR INCOME OF ANY ADVANTAGE? I don’t want to deviate, so let me get down to letting you know that you the signs that you spend or consume more than you earn. SIGN 1: You don’t have a saving. When you live above your income, Its hard to save money. You spend over 90% of what you are bringing in so where will the saving come from? Any money that you happen to get, you are running to the next boutique meanwhile you have clothes in your wardrobe that are new and you have obviously forgotten because you buy more than you actually need. How can you save when the 1st thing that comes to your mind on getting a credit alert is how to buy things that are not really relevant in order to impress folks that don’t really care. SIGN 2: You are a habitual debtor. This is very common with people who spend above their means or beyond their income. They do not have self control when it comes to buying things. They live a false life and desperately want to be categorized among the “Happening” babes and guys. They will collect or buy everything on credit. I once knew a girl who doesn’t even have a job but will be the one to buy clothes the most. She ended up incurring so much debts and was disgraced at the end of the day. SIGN 3: The money that is yet to come, has already been spent. Take a look at the first and second sign again and you will discover that these 3 signs are linked and related to one another. If you are a habitual debtor, it means every kobo you are yet to have has already been spent. That is because you have to pay the debts you owe. And if the money you are yet to receive is already spent, how do you have a saving? SIGN 4: You can not differentiate between your needs and wants. Anyone who has this problem, is prone to spending to spending above their means. There is a great difference between what you need and what you want. Not knowing this is risky to your financial growth and security. That explains why you are all about trends. That explains why you must buy something because you like it. SIGN 5: You live to impress people. When your life or existence on earth is all about impressing people… Then my dear, you will find your self spending above your means. You want them to say “Awwwwww, she is a big girl, don’t you see how she dresses?” You go about borrowing and owing just to always be up to date. You buy the latest and trending outfits, phones and so on because you want to be classified as rich or happening. But let me tell you something, we all know the ones who are DOING WELL, whether they use the poorest phones or repeat clothes. These are just the few signs to know you live above your means or income. This problem like every problem has solutions. SOLUTION 1: Be able to differentiate between your wants and needs. SOLUTION 2: Be real with yourself and your life. Be particular about functionality and values instead of big names and wanting to belong. SOLUTION 3: Put into practice the principle of “Opportunity Cost” in most of your dealings. I am sure most of us did economics at least in secondary school. SOLUTION 4: Do it yourself (DIY) helps to some extent. Instead of going to that salon every week just to paint your nails, you can buy your nail polish and do it at home thereby saving your transport fare and workmanship fee. SOLUTION 5: Start Saving. SOLUTION 6: Have a budget and try to live by it. Occasional extra spending is natural but living by a budget will make you aware of all your spending. SOLUTION 7: Pay off your debt, and if you must buy on credit, let it be just for that thing you badly need. Most young people have this problem of living above their means. It boils down to displacement of priorities. But its not too late to retrace one’s steps. Living within your income or means may not be very easy but I assure you that it is very beneficial and when you start to do so, you will face reality and be a step closer to achieving your goals and ambitions and enjoying a sweeter and less stressful life.Annapolis Read More at: http://www.naijaolofofo.com/signs-live-income-solutions/ |

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” Melissa Rivers, said in a written statement last week. “She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.” Melissa Rivers added that she and her son, Cooper, “have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.” Joan Rivers, who co-hosted the popular E! TV show Fashion Police, had been hard at work recently, critiquing the outfits worn by stars at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmys with her usual acerbic wit. On August 28 however, she was in New York City having surgery when she suffered cardiac arrest. She was rushed to the hospital where she arrived unconscious and doctors kept her sedated. On September 2, her daughter, Melissa Rivers, revealed that she had been placed on life support. “My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable,” she added in a statement the next day. “Thank you for your continued support. Rivers, who changed her name from Joan Molinsky when she entered show business, began her acting career in a play opposite Barbra Streisand before appearing on Candid Camera. In 1965, the future talk show host made her first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show and Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. “When I started out, a pretty girl did not go into comedy. If you saw a pretty girl walk into a nightclub she was automatically a singer. Comedy was all white, older men,” Rivers wrote in 2012. “I didn’t even want to be a comedian. Nobody wanted to be a comedian!” Carson became a mentor to Rivers and eventually, in 1983, she became his permanent guest host. However, in 1986, she left to host her own competing show on Fox, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, though it only lasted a year. It also cost her friendship with Carson. After she accepted the job, the two never spoke again. The show was also mired in personal tragedy. Rivers’ second husband, Edgar Rosenberg, the father of her only child, her daughter, Melissa, committed suicide the same year she was fired from the show. At the time, she, too, considered suicide. “Melissa wasn’t talking to me, my career was in the toilet, I’d lost my Vegas contracts, I’d been fired from Fox,” she told the Daily Beast last month. “Carson and NBC had put out such bad publicity about me. I was a pariah. I wasn’t invited anywhere. I was a non-person. At one point, I thought, ‘What’s the point? This is stupid.’ “What saved me,” she continued, “was my dog jumped into my lap. I thought, ‘No one will take care of him. I had the gun in my lap and the dog sat on the gun. I lecture on suicide because things turn around. I tell people this is a horrible, awful dark moment, but it will change and you must know it’s going to change and you push forward. I look back and think, Life is great, life goes on. It changes.” Read More at: http://www.naijaolofofo.com/life-and-times-of-joan-rivers/

Unknown gunmen reportedly stormed the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria, FRCN, Training School, Lagos State, Friday, raping and robbing many of the female trainee journalists. It was gathered that it was the third time the armed men would be attacking the school. According to an insider, “The armed robbers were many. They attacked the school last week, last two weeks and now this week. They always rape the girls and dispossess others, including male students and workers on night duties of their valuables.” The three attacks on the school have left many of the workers shocked, especially as policemen were supposed to be manning the school gate. The last attack occurred at about 2am, with the gunmen targeting the financial records offices. Three of the gunmen wore masks and focused on the new BOND FM station, which has a lot of new expensive transmitting devices. “Many of them broke into our offices, remove burglar-proofs, raped girls who were in training and living in our hostel. They collected money, phones and laptops. This is the third time this will be happening,” said a staff. According to another insider, the school has male and female trainees drawn from across different radio stations in the country who are on special courses. There are also private students studying broadcast journalism. The insider added: “The gunmen are usually many whenever they attack. The first time they came, they appeared to be searching for something as they ransacked all offices. This time, they came with three or four men wearing masks. They were apparently the people who wanted something from the school or offices. When they came this time, they were the ones doing the frantic searching. Whether they succeeded in getting what they wanted this time around is what we don’t know.” Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, however said only a case of burglary was reported. “I just got to hear today that the place has been burgled three times. But they had never reported. It’s only today that an official complaint was lodged. No case of rape was reported. Nobody has come forward to say that she was raped,” she said. http://www.naijaolofofo.com/gunmen-rape-rob-female-trainee-journalists-in-lagos/ |

Don Jazzy (Michael Collins Ajereh), is a Nigerian Multi award-winning music producer, singer-songwriter, musician, former CEO of Nigerian record label Mo’ Hits Records founded in 2004 and is presently the CEO of Mavin Records label which was founded in May 2012. 1. First off, we embraced the switch from Mo Hits Records to Mavin Records as if it was extra icing on the cake. 2. He breeds “winners” under his record label. How many D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal or Dr. Sid songs can we sing off the top of our heads? Much more than we actually thought we knew. How dare I forget his brother, the “Goody Bag Man” himself- D’Prince. 3. Don Jazzy was recently named the 36th “Most Powerful Celebrity in Africa” in 2014 according to Forbes. Pretty awesome if I must say! 4. Have you checked out his dress sense recently? From abadas to fitted suits and Rolex watches, Don Jazzy is always sharply put together. 5. He employed the use of the Dictionary for his record label name “Mavin Records” and yet again for part of his hit song title “Dorobucci”. Pictured above is a proud Nigerian prostitute named Patoo Abraham who led a protest for s*x workers’ rights in Lagos recently. Found the report on Al Jazeera. Read and be amazed…:-) Patoo Abraham has become famous for fighting for the rights of prostitutes, but what she – and those she is trying to help – do to make a living is illegal and frowned upon by many in the country. Abraham is not only proud of her profession but is also campaigning to ensure that prostitution is legalised and that s*x workers are respected in Africa’s most populous country. The 48-year-old has led a couple of protests in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, demanding the rights of prostitutes in a country where s*x vendors suffer physical harm at the hands of their punters. Continue… Under the auspices of different organisations, scores of prostitutes marched on the streets of Lagos, chanting provocative slogans. This boldness is unprecedented, and the protesters carried their signature red umbrellas and T-shirts with the inscription “s*x work is work, we need our rights.” “We are tired of dying in silence,” Abraham, who heads the Nigerian chapter of African s*x Workers Alliance (ASWA), told Al Jazeera. “We want to be able to practise our profession with pride like every other person. We want an end to name-calling and stigmatisation. We are s*x workers and not asawo [a Yoruba derogatory name for prostitutes].” s*x work, said Abraham, is normal work and that there are “s*x workers everywhere under one form of disguise or the other”. “[The] government should stop criminalising our work,” said the woman who is also the president of the Women of Power Initiative (WOPI), a non-governmental organisation established to advance the cause of s*x work in Nigeria...... Losing something very dare can be painful, let alone someone, or a confidant or a soul mate. Tears rolled freely on Friday when late gospel singer, Kefee Don-Momoh was laid to rest in her hometown in Delta State. Her husband, who was still grieved, eulogised his late wife at the burial. He reportedly said, “You were a woman of principle, straightforward, strong willed and determined. You were the symbol of hope. When I look through your eyes little did I know that the end has come. Death is inevitable but no man desires death at the time it comes. “I am consoled by the fact that you are now translated from this sinful environment to a better place where the lord has made for the righteous men of your kind. Farewell my desire. Rest in the bosom of the Lord till we meet on the Lord’s appointed time.” Read More http://www.naijaolofofo.com/kefee-woman-principle-husband/ |

Family of the mystery lady identified as Janet Bandu who has disappeared with Hiplife life artiste Castro is shattered in disbelief that their dear sister and daughter has been missing since Sunday and feared dead. As if the difficult in dealing with the disappearance of their daughter was not enough, the Bandu family also has to deal with some rumors about Janet suggesting that she is a sea goddess. Gifty Bandu, Janet’s elder sister stated in an interview on Neat FM’s “Entertainment Ghana” that people should cease insinuating that her sister is a sea goddess and asked Ghanaians to stop referring to her missing sister as ‘Maame water’, also known as mermaid – a mythical sea creature that has the body of a woman from head to waist and the body of a fish from waist downwards. Gifty Bandu, pleaded with the public to understand the pain and trauma the family was going through now and stop making things worse with allegations that Janet is a mermaid who has eloped with Castro to marry him under the sea. “My sister is not ‘maame water’. She is a human being. She was in I’m in Love with Bomaye’ and people know her …When we hear such reports, it brings us a lot of pain. Maame (Jane) is not ‘maame water’. She is a human being like any other person. She is my sister. And we are praying that she would be found and Castro too would be found. People should stop saying she is ‘maame water’ and stop saying absurd things about her,” Gifty Bandu stated. Sunday Dare, media aide and Chief of Staff to former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of being the chief architect of Boko Haram. His words: “Obanikoro (aka Onikoro) and this shameless PDP government should step forward and explain to Nigerians why the over 200 girls kidnapped in Chibok are yet to be rescued. “They should explain why the Boko Haram insurgency continues unabated despite the billions that is being voted for security.” “The country is literarily on tenterhooks and all the PDP can do is lie to Nigerians in order to cover up its failures. “Obanikoro’s allegation that Tinubu and his friends in the opposition created Boko Haram is both fallacious and untenable. It is the kind of fable that can only come out of the mouth of someone who is delusional. “One whose intoxication with power is not in doubt. This allegation is both unreasonable and unsustainable, but not surprising coming from the person it came from.” “The PDP is preparing the grounds for its next round of hounding opposition leaders, militarising our cities and violating the democratic rights of Nigerians to move freely. This is political Boko Haram of which the PDP is the chief architect.” Read More http://www.naijaolofofo.com/pdp-chief-architect-boko-haram-tinubu/ |
